I do about a tenner a day in beers and miniatures That's lowballing it. A weekday is 6 beers at £1.40 plus 2 minis at £2 each, so call it £12 or £360 a month

My goal is to be able to leave the house with no adverse effects. Sounds easy, feels impossible.

After 1.5 years of exercise a six-pack for this summer is within reach, so that’s definitely on the cards. I can already feel the bulges under the still too thick layer of fat. I’d like to start a new business, if I can come up with something. And close the one I’m running now, 10 years is more than enough. You could launch your "18 month Abs" program. I’ll think about it once the abs are actually visible. I need to get back into IT after a long time of running an unrelated business and simply doing IT for it. It pays the bills, but the ratio of mundane/fun is at about 90/10 right now and that’s not a lot of fun.

I managed to get out to get my jab and do some Christmas shopping last week. ODd on Imodium six hours before, and took some diazepam in advance. Not really a practical long term solution unless I want a severe benzo habit! But I’m trying to push myself a bit at a time. Kernow is making everything much harder, but hoping once he starts going for walks and then being less manic he’ll make things easier.

For me the same staples as every year...which I do not keep up: Play/learn Guitar. I can play a bit but that is it! Eat better, drink less. I drink 1 medium size glass of wine most nights. Gym: try and get back into some sort of...something, Beefcakeeee. Read more.

I'd like to give up the booze, currently running at about £140/month. Im about £300 a month and if you really wanna quit I would love a buddy for it Danno, you do know that if you're drinking so much that your body is dependent on it, then coming off can be dangerous? It's actually more dangerous coming off alcohol than it is heroin if your are dependant as your body will go into shock. Hopefully you have spoken to your doctor and got advice on this. I was a mod on an addiction forum for a few years and would recommend you try one of those if you're serious, as it's hard to quit. Anyone can do a few days, but once it's out of your body and the cravings start (about 4 days) it gets difficult. I'd say the first couple of weeks are the hardest, but the first month or two can be tricky as you keep telling yourself that you've obviously not got a problem as you've stopped for so long or "something" happens that gives you the excuse you're looking for to go back to it. If you want any advice, then I'm happy to help. I've been there and I had a few attempts at quitting until it finally got into my head that alcohol and me were done for life. Good luck. It's one of the things I wish I'd done long before I did.

As for resolutions, I've 1000 miles to complete in memory of my boss. I've got to get a new job and I'll have a think what else I want to do. I'm a bit tired now. Last couple of nights have been ~4-5 hours.

That's why it's so hard to quit, I'm super tired of it but the thirst takes over when I'm tapering and it's back to square 1 Gotta die from something I guess

Similar to Danno, I was drinking around £120 a week, for the last 20 years but decided to knock it on the head last January. Replaced the crutch with weed but it's been great, feeling so much better these days.

I used to say the same "if I'm going to die, it might as well be with something I enjoy" crap too.
I'd recommend brighteyes forum for help. Sounds like you're aware, but be careful. You can do this, but only you can do it and that little voice in your head will be doing all it can to make you think you can't / don't want to / don't need to.
Me, I'd realised I'd spent 30 years driñking to excess and that was enough for one lifetime and that it was time to try the rest of my life without it. I can promise you that it's not a choice I've regretted and it's one I wished I'd done years before. 6 years later, I don't even think of alcohol anymore (my first sober Christmas I certainly did).
Take care and good luck. Ignore the little voice.

Eat better, drink less, exercise more is an unoriginal resolution (and one I make regularly) but absolutely what I need. I will take a few weeks off the booze, perhaps a G&T or two if I want a drink once or twice a week. But whatever you want to achieve, do it in small steps first.

I was on at least half a bottle of gin every night and somehow turned out not to be physically dependent when I quit. Some hard quit tablets and a support group got me off it. I'm overdoing things again now (although not to that extent) so this isn't advice from the moral high ground, more a hint that it's really hard to do this shit without backup.

I'm not sure I have any resolutions I will be bothered to stick to. Don't smoke anymore, barely vape, barely drink, I don't eat awfully but do overindulge - I like nice food, not junk. I got into sort-of shape but utterly fucked my shoulder doing it, had operation, fucked it again so that game of soldiers can just fuck off spectacularly into the sunset. I'd rather have a day-to-day life mostly free from white-hot searing pain, ta.
I dunno. Work's pretty shit so people say change jobs yadda yadda but I'm way too old for that now and I absolutely do not want that kind of stress and grief of a new start again. I barely remember the names of people at my current work after six years.
I'm a pretty good cook and always wanted to be better, like pseudo-Michelin better. Perhaps I'll do that. It makes my missus very happy she hasn't had to feed herself for about four years.

Got some health goals. Aiming to get blood work done asap to see if there’s anything I need to improve there. Bit of weight loss and lots of muscle gain, some performance related gym goals. I eat well and train regularly so it’s just keeping up the momentum I already have really. Need to focus on my mobility.
Need to save a chunk of money so that I can buy a new place again, with the goal of buying something with the gf in about a year or so.
Go on a holiday, for the first time in 7 years I think.
I want to read more, and take up a new or old hobby, something to use screens a bit less in general. Maybe hobby painting, martial arts or drawing (all old things I’d like to go back to), or an instrument.

Losing weight and cutting back on alcohol are the two more achievable goals. Trying to be a less moody bastard is a stretch goal. It would be great if I could revive my sex life too, but let’s not expect miracles.

I don’t get on with audiobooks at all. I’d need to stare at a white wall and keep my wandering thoughts firmly in check to follow properly and that just never happens.

Same here. I get distracted easily. After a few minutes, it's just background noise. I know the better ones can be really dynamic and engrossing, but my mind wanders.

Same here, I can only listen to them (and podcasts) if I'm on a commute I've done 100 times or I'm doing housework or painting/modelling. That way the brain is dostracted with a wombo combo of noises and a motor skill
