My shotgun is level 133 so it should be unlocked already. I did notice an extra generic shader in my list, which seems to bear the Dawning icon... but I hope it's not that. I was hoping for something more unique. It should be called "Rime Keepsake". It's an icy one with moving-y bits. Oh yeah, found it. Not sure why it was hidden in the third shaders tab... anyway. I decided to give Fireteam Finder a try. Went for a Pit of Heresy run. Seemed all easy enough, it got me into the fireteam, then of course it disconnected me while the activity was starting. At which point I realized that the game apparently keeps no track of your current fireteam or invitations, so I had no way of getting back into their game. Sigh. More missed opportunities. They just said the current Prime rewards drop is the final one, so I guess that's another thing that is coming to an end.

So I read something last month that suddenly made me interested in the weekly Wishes quests. The Age-Old Bond auto rifle can drop with both Destabilizing Rounds and Repulsor Brace, and while it's a raid only weapon, it can be crafted with the patterns from the weekly quests.
Of course, by the time I realized this, I didn't have enough wishes left. So now I'm at 4 patterns out of 5.
So it seems I'll be running the solo chests for the next few weeks, and hope for a lucky break. If I can just get the weapon, I can use a harmonizer on it and then I'll be set.
Guess that gives me a little something to do until Final Shape arrives.

I feel like Bungie have been dying to pan Destiny off for ages now and get on with Marathon and that mobile bullshit that got canned.
I see they introduced a horde mode which to me feels like the dictionary definition of being a day late and a dollar short. I don't even think I've loaded the game up this calendar year, where it's been my most played in my end of year thing religiously since it's inception.
Will still do Final Shape as I do want to see how they tie it all up, but I'm honestly not bothered if the game ends up shut down anymore. Just before Lightfall I was dying for them to commit to another story saga.

I didn't imagine saying this around WQ or so but I actually don't reckon I'm going to bother with TFS. I think my time with the game is basically done, now. I actually uninstalled it last night.
I don't think it's been any one thing, but I've been on an extended break and realised that really because the main thing I enjoy in Destiny is raiding, a lot of the rest of the game just stands as a barrier between me and that, and the way it's designed makes me feel like I *have* to engage with various things in a certain way in order to maximise my enjoyment of the parts I do enjoy.
In particular I feel like it's the way half the game seems designed around a fear that 1% of players will no life the fuck out of it and get everything in a week then complain there's no content, so you get stuff like the "3 chances at a raid to get the drop/loot a week" shit. Which just means that everyone in the server I was in is desperate to get their 3 raid clears in ASAP because by the time you get to the weekend everyone got their clears in and nobody wants to run it any more. I'd settle in for a gaming session and be like "well, I suppose before I play what I want to play, I should do some shit in Destiny".
Too much of the game designed around being repeatable out of creating a feeling of obligation that you should repeat it, rather than repeatable in the sense that you just WANT to replay it because its fun, and after several months of barely engaging with it any more I realise that I actually don't care much for jumping back in.

I haven't been playing nearly as much as in past years, but I still consider it something of a comfort game.
Definitely gonna see how the legendary campaign of Final Shape holds up (hoping they learned something after Lightfall). After that, I'll be watching the day one raid stream, just to see what happens. And then, from what I understand, there might be something else to deal with the Witness. Even if I don't grind the game anymore, I think the campaign will be worth the money... I hope.
Not sure about the DLC instead, but I've got to waste all that cheap silver somehow. And since it's DLC instead of yet more season passes, perhaps it's less of a grind and more of a mini-campaign.
But after that... I can't see the game going on any longer. They will probably keep it up without updates, like they still do for D1. That would be good enough for me, I guess. It's been a good 10 years of my life, not many games can claim that, but it would be time to move on.

That thing was a beast back in the day. As grindy as the game can be, I had an absolute blast playing it back then. I got the platinum starling ship without even realising there was a reward for 50(?) forge completions.
It's still nowhere near enough to tempt me back to the game, though. I'm enjoying not having a live service game in my life that feels like a second job.
Blast furnace and kindled orchid ftw too.

I see they timegated some of the guns. They quite literally can not help themselves. Metrics, metrics, metrics.

That was my read of it at first but I think it's just some shaders that are timegated? That was going to be the final nail for me buying the final shape otherwise.

Oh I see, yeah, half the guns can't be gotten right away, but there was some suggestion that you straight up can't get the guns after a certian point, but that's just the LE versions.

Sounds like the weapons that are timegated:
"And that's all of them! Half of these will be available starting April 9, including The Recluse, Hung Jury SR4, Succession, Edge Transit, Elsie's Rifle and Falling Guillotine. The remainder will unlock one at a time each week through the week of May 21. The BRAVE Arsenal weapons will continue to drop from Onslaught after The Final Shape, but the limited-edition variants won’t be available after June 3, so go get them while you can! "

It's the whole reason I've soured so much on it. Everything in the game gets blatantly drip fed to you with the sole purpose of ticking boxes on their end because you've logged into the game on their terms.
The point of no return for me was the exposition on the nature of the veil. Something that flat out should have been included in the base Lightfall expansion, chopped up into about 6 week's worth of audio logs dropped one at a time months after the expansion had been and gone.
I look across at what the likes of Arrowhead are doing with Helldivers and think to myself, maybe Sony taking total control isn't such a bad thing because Bungie's goose was cooked a long time ago.

I've finally managed to get that last pattern from the secret raid chests, and now have a masterworked Age-old Bond with Destabilizing Rounds and Repulsor Brace, so I won't need other weapons for a while.
That said, I'll probably give the new mode a look when it comes out. Horde mode does sound like fun.

Yeah, too much of the game is either designed around a fear that people will no life it and complain there's nothing to do afterward, or designed around ensuring people come back every week. The latter is fine, except they do it in the most annoying way instead of just making something so fun that people want to keep playing. And often it clashes in a way that makes it less fun. Weird to think that I'm around 70/30 atm on simply not bothering with the final shape.

Final trailer is out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZrxWFrd1zQKinda hyped tbf, if only for the campaign and raid day. Not that I have much hope the campaign will actually solve any plot points, but heh. At least it should be a fun few hours.

Yeah I haven't pre ordered but I'm planning on buying on launch day minus all the season passes and whatnot. I haven't bothered doing any prep and I'm pretty much out as soon as I've seen what happens after the raid is cleared. I've watched like the last 3 seasons worth of story stuff on YouTube as I simply can not be bothered playing it.

Launch day was actually pretty smooth for once. I was able to log in about 15 minutes after launch, and then played until now... gave up because I started getting server errors, and well, because it's pretty late actually.
Managed to get 4 missions (legendary campaign) done. So far it feels like the missions all felt like greatest hits from past content. I'm not sure I'm into the story just yet, but it sure feels and plays a lot better than Lightfall already. There are quite a few new enemies too. Not really getting on with the Prismatic class, at least until I've unlocked all of the aspects, so I'm just going with the usual Sentinel.
Don't know how many missions it is, but I hope I can get them cleared before the raid hits.

According to the Triumphs, it's seven missions in total, with Iconoclasm being the last.

According to the Triumphs, it's seven missions in total, with Iconoclasm being the last. That's short. There are 34 quest steps, and with each mission having a talk with Ghost and a radio chatter, I thought it would be at least 9 missions. Well, that might be for the best. I was getting worried about spoilers while watching the raid, if I couldn't finish the campaign in time.

It's 7 missions, the Raid on Friday which will unlock mission 8 upon Worlds First completion and then that's that.
Finished them all last night. Thought it was a good campaign but it only highlighted how phoned in other campaigns in the past have been in terms of cutscenes/plot exposition. They should have all been like this. Connectivity was also fucking horrendous. Had to finish the new Strike 3 times as we kept getting booted towards the end. Lost at least 2 hours just to error codes. Loads of reports of people missing cutscenes in the most important point in the plot's history. An absolute mess and doesn't encourage me to play much more after the final mission unlocks.

I'm only missing the final mission now.
Campaign has ben good so far (just need to hope it won't have a horrible final boss like Calus), but it could have used more checkpoints. Battles in darkness zones have been a tad too long. Anyway, it's an improvement on Lightfall including the tone. But like you, I don't think I'll play muc more once the post-final mission is done. I dn't feel like grinding.
I do want to see what episodes are like. Since I did set aside the Silver for them, at this point I might as well, and it seems there should be a big content drop every six weeks.

Holy crap, this damn final boss. It... doesn't *quite* feel as unfair as Calus, because at least you do get some cover. But it's still hard as hell. First phase is easy enough, but even just by the second phase, there's a whole lot to keep track of. You are dealing with the Strand Subjugator (whose attacks, when angry, are basically one-hit kills on legendary), the Witness' one-hit kills in the open, recharging your darkness shield every 40 seconds, dealing with the attendants and then the Bound attendants, those damn Grims pestering you...
Worst part is that I still haven't even managed to destroy the second statue. I've tried fifteen times and I still don't know what's next. Probably a Tormentor, chasing me around while all of the above happens and then some. And who knows what happens when the Witness' shield is down. Maybe he'll just kill me and I'll have to repeat everything again. Tell you what, I'm gonna get some help, or just give up and play on regular difficulty.

Yeah that was a bit of a mad difficulty spike but not quite Calus levels of bullshit.
I get the feeling a lot of the campaign was not so subtle raid mechanic introductions to try and get more player engagement when it launches. I was hoping it would be something akin to Last Wish but now I suspect people will have it cleared within 3 hours or so. Especially with some of the busted shit Prismatic has allowed access to like putting Getaway Artists on with Bleak Watchers.

I've played a lot these past three days. I'll say that I like what they have done with the Overthrow, they are basically revamped public events and how things should have been from the start imo. That said, it doesn't seem to me like the Pale Heart is a proper destination, because I never see any other players unless I specifically use the matchmaking istance. That's weird.
I still don't know how to unlock more prismatic fragments. Got some via story and quests, but not sure where to find the rest.
On a side note, I wouldn't mind if the raid were finished within midnight, because I have places to be tomorrow morning. But maybe five hours is a little low for a raid. Seems to me that 6-7 hours is a more common average?
