So I caved and grabbed Lightfall as it was half price. I get the current season with that and in I go once more. Once more after spending some time away to see so much has changed. Again. I'm lost. Again. Yet again I play it and revel in how fucking tasty the moment to moment gameplay is and wonder once more why i stopped playing it. Couple of questions though if anyone minds: I take it I've missed Season of the Deep completely? I can do the opening mission but after that, nothing. I presume I should have got the annual pass? Which brings me to my next point. Last years seasonal content, that I did have, all seems to have vanished. I take it it's gone for good? So I can't mosey about on Calus's Leviathan any more? That's why I wouldn't probably grab the annual pass as we're mid-way through this year and I don't fancy all that content fucking off again. Erm. What guns are good now? Have they changed the armour mod system again as all my mods were degraded and I haven't got a clue where I am with it now. Apart from that. It's rather nice to be back. Also. I still miss Titan IIRC you have to upgrade to the deluxe digital edition for this year if you want to play season of the deep now. For what it's worth, not a lot happened.
Previous year seasonal content disappears at the end of the year.
What guns are good now? Anything really, though with recent balance changes there's a huge incentive to use an exotic primary weapon due to the 40% damage boost against regular enemies. Otherwise, aside from low RPM auto rifles, scout rifles and bows pretty much everything is a solid pick for most PvE. With good perks, of course.
You will unlock the rest of the mods by going through guardian ranks to level 6 iirc. The armour mod system is generally a lot better now, as there's no elemental locks on mods and armour element is no longer a thing. Main thing is "armour charge" (very similar to the old charged with light system) which interacts with mods in various ways:
- Mods with green icons usually allow you to gain armour charge in some way without using orbs of light, or increase how much charge/stacks of charge you can hold
- Mods with blue icons will passively buff some aspect of your character while you have armour charge (Font of Discipline = 30 more discipline while you have armour charge, Void Surge = Void Weapons do more damage), but will also cause your armour charge to decay over time.
- Mods with yellow icons will consume all your armour charge on some condition, in return for a buff and will not decay until you meet that condition (Grenade Kickstart - consume your armour charge when you use a grenade to get a ton of grenade energy back, Special Finisher - consume armour charge to get special ammo)
In general this tends to be the base of any build: - Elemental Siphon mods on your helm to generate orbs of light (based on weapons you are using) - Extra orb generation on arms to allow melee and grenade abilities to create orbs of light (the nade one is called firepower, I forget the melee one) - Reaper mod on class item so first kill after every class ability use gives an orb
From there you can pick your buff mods for how to use your armour charge, plus other mods for any other benefits. Some just go fully into the elemental damage up mods, but generally ability generation stuff tends to be more popular.
Shame you miss Titan, that's where the season you missed was set

Thank you man that’s incredibly useful!!! I’m sure it’ll sink in as I play it. I always love coming back to it after a spell. I fall in love with it all over again.
Until the fatigue hits and I uninstall it!

I feel like she might end up being a proper storyline after Final Shape. It's too late in the day to add another enemy so close to the end but I can totally see her taking full control of the Hive in the wake of all the old Gods biting the dust.

Probably die and come back as a Hive Guardian or something to bridge the divide for the future.
In general they seem to just be killing everyone off at the moment to clear the slate for the future. Rasputin, Amanda...

In case anyone sees any weird shit this weekend: there's a crafting bug at the moment where you can take the frame of one gun and put it on another. So, I've managed to put Ragnhild-D's frame (agressive frame shotgun) on Ammit AR2 (450 AR). The result is an assault rifle that fires shotgun blasts. I also did it with a burst fire LFR, so now I have an LFR that shoots like a shotgun, but as a 3 round burst, and each pellet is an LFR shot

And is the bug just visual, or do you now have an Ammit that does shotgun damage with each shot (using primary ammo to boot)?

Haha, broken shit like this is what would tempt me back to the game. You just know they'll be patching this as a priority instead of letting people have fun with it though.

The thing I'm most scared of is a rollback as I haven't bothered glitching any of the guns myself and did quite a bit of stuff yesterday I don't want to lose. Would feel a bit fucked over through no fault of my own.

Well the bungie help twitter is basically saying "go nuts lol" for now. Obviously a fix is a priority but they're not disabling anything for now.

It does shotgun damage lol. I'll take a vid later but there's loads floating around. The lfr I made literally one shots most non endgame bosses. And how do you trigger this glitch? Asking for a friend. So basically in the weapon crafting menu you have to trick the game into thinking you clicked 2 guns at once. The process is - 1. Click a gun 2. Move cursor to another gun and change the tabs to the right page at the same time using your keyboard or dpad 4. Click the gun You have to be really really fast and it'll take quite a lot of tries to get it right. Especially because you'll also need to change tabs. This is why shotguns into autos and lfrs are popular, because everyone has the Ragnhild and ammit patterns and they're not too far away from each other on menus. For shotgun ammit it's iirc basically click Ragnhild, really quickly hit left and down to change to the autos page and move cursor to where ammit is (it's like one over) and click it. If you did it right it'll say aggressive frame on the ammit instead of precision on the craft menu. There are some things you can do to make it easier. On pc limit to 30fps and on console download the old gen 30fps versions. And make sure something is downloading in the background to slow your network helps too.

It's rumors so far, but it seems Bungie may have delayed The Final Shape to June, and apparently laid off some people too.
I haven't been able to play at all this season (mostly due to a house move and no broadband yet), I was kinda thinking of skipping the next season too and waste my silver on those DLC stories. It looks like it will have to be another extra long season, so that might be for the best.

Revenue projections missed by 45%, apparently, and are absolutely hemorrhaging players. I suspect they are being squeezed at both ends. A product that experienced players are sick of and an incomprehensible mess to anyone firing it up for the first time.
As someone who dips in and out of it as content becomes free, I am always stunned at how they make it incrementally more confusing and obnoxious every time I reinstall it.

Aye, I've got the annual pass for it but after 6 months away just can't be arsed going back to the impenetrable confusing mess that is Destiny 2. The last expansion's story was so shit that it killed any enthusiasm for the final shape. I might end up sitting this out.
It's quite liberating not having any live service games on the go. I've probably spent a fortune on actual new games, but at least I get a sense of completion when I watch the end credits scroll.

Yeah, I've come back on and off and it amazes me how intimidating it is to the new player. It absolutely goes out of its way to be quite impenetrable with little to no explanation about how most things work, what you're actually doing even going as far as making it mystifying how you even get into the game proper.

I actually had a moment of "am I too old to do games now?!" the last time I tried to get back into it. I *lived* the first game on PS4, and was there day one for the sequel and the first few expansions. But it all just went off the rails. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to play any of their stuff any more - how can a firm that makes such astonishingly good moment-to-moment gameplay not be able to string together a coherent experience? Not worth the hassle now.

The only thing you can count on is that there will be a lengthy mission to force you to engage with the new currency/microtransaction mechanic.

I really think you can pin all this back to Lightfall. They went from possibly the best expansion the game had to the worst by far. The game had great momentum going into Lightfall and then completely and utterly squandered it. I'm not surprised TFS pre orders are down; when even people in the Destiny discord I visit aren't bothering to pre order and are barely touching the seasons you know you have a problem.
There must be an internal war going on at Bungie between making stuff that is fun and making stuff that makes the numbers go up.

The cutscene that dropped in the week before Lightfall dropped was the point where I thought the series was finally living up to it's true potential.
What followed was a filler expansion designed solely as a stopgap the monetize the series one more time before the end, a Raid I would rank up there with the worst they've ever done with mechanics you could barely call Dungeon level in their complexity and a seasonal model that they promised was going to change but, in reality, hasn't. Then you throw on top of that annual events that have quite literally been copy/pasted year to year with additional MTX for seemingly everything and from being the most excited I've ever been to play, I'm now completely not bothered at all and do maybe 1 raid with my group once a fortnight pretty much just to keep in touch.
Bungie's greatest achievement ever was convincing everyone that the problem was Microsoft, then Activision, then Sony. "If you meet one arsehole in the morning you probably just met an arsehole....."
