Not a game, but probably one of the more amazing tech demos I've seen in my many years of gaming.
The level of fidelity when you hit the free camera section reminded me of 'The Power of Ten' (at least the first thousand feet or so!)
Really, give it a try if you are on S|X or PS5

Yeah it's pretty cool. Now we just need some games that look like it.

Only watched a video, so I don't know for sure which bits were interactive, but it looks pretty impressive in places, and then not so impressive in others. I assume the shooting car tires bit was interactive? It's interesting that in pushing forward the visual tech they had to push back the gameplay to something from 20 years ago.

It's more the openworld free roam at the end which is impressive.

This was some cool looking shit for sure. And I was on Series S.
Mind, the animations didn't look great, framerate wasn't as stable as one would like, and for all our advancements in graphics technology I still have to see a convincing fire effect. I also wonder what kind of cutbacks would be required to make it run at 60fps. Something like Metro Exodus might be an example.
But yeah, this was some cool looking shit for sure.

Just a bit frustrating that the only real next gen experience is not even a game. Even one true next gen game incoming would be something to look forward to.

It's more the openworld free roam at the end which is impressive. The world looks great, but the animation and the npcs don't look like much of a step up over stuff we already have. It seems like one of those LoD type things, where the game looks amazing in cutscenes, but as soon as NPCs get more than 5m away they de-rez down to low poly versions.

It's a tech demo so I imagine very little effort has been put into animations and NPC behaviour.

I can see, with a bigger team (apparently this was not a big dev team but I imagine had the leverage of Epic's UE5 team on tap) and with normal dev period, a full game reigning in the scale to hit some faster framerates could make some great looking stuff with a ton of granular detail.
Would be interesting to see how close to 'film quality' (minus the 24fps) we could get if we chose to hit 1080p too. After all blu-ray films look pretty fine generally.

To be perfectly fair, I'm not sure this looks more amazing than Gears of War did in 2006. And that was an actual game.
But then, smaller power leap from the past gen, etc.

Pretty clear now that Epic were behind the CD Projekt RED source code hack.

Holy smokes. That was impressive, especially the city exploration.
Faces are still a bit uncanny valley and I feel like I've seen better elsewhere. The level of detail and amount of cars and people is a step forward.
Makes me excited for the next GTA.
Worth turning off the 'matrix filter' in the options as that takes off the overly aggressive film grain.

Yeah I switched off the filter and was walking about thinking this is what GTA 6 should look like. Then I remembered we will get another version of 5 long before we see anything of 6.
The action scene made me want another Animatrix series.

I'd love an Enter the Matrix 2, if it played like a modern game and not a mid-tier PS2 game. Probably my favorite thing about the original Matrix series wasn't even the films themselves, but the way the Wachowskis expanded the story through other mediums. Anime, video games, comics.
Anyway, yeah it's pretty.

Is it possible to switch into night mode in the walk around at the end? Digital Foundry talk about night illumination but all I could seem to do is move the sun around, not change the time of day.
Anyway it is a seriously impressive demo on the PS5. If a next gen GTA could get close to this , it’d be amazing.
Well worth a download to see and play it for yourself.

I've just had a quick blast on Series X, but there's no HDR or Dolby Vision. Everything looks flat and dull as consequence.

It's definitely an interesting demo. In terms of how much stuff they've got going on it's super impressive - the way it scales with distance is great. It's also clearly going to be a while until something like that is mainstream: the image breaks up quite a lot in motion because it's having to take a lot of resolution cuts, especially when RT stuff is involved.
I'd be very interested to see this resurface once DirectStorage is a 'real' thing on PC, see where the bottlenecks are.

I'd be very interested to see this resurface once DirectStorage is a 'real' thing on PC, see where the bottlenecks are. I wonder if this really needs a super fast NVMe. The game is unlikely to use DirectStorage on Xbox, because I don't think any game uses it yet and I'm not even sure if it's already available on the development tools. And yet word is that load times are actually a bit faster on Series S over the PS5 (no doubt because it needs to load lower quality assets, but still). So you'd think it doesn't really use the extra speed all that much. When Epic releases the assets and project, someone will undoubtedly port it to PC, and then we can see how it really compares to the consoles even without DirectStorage. We'll even see if it can be run off a SATA SSD.

Not surprised there is no PC version. Imagine all the saltiness of not being able to run it on a potato.
