I wonder if this really needs a super fast NVMe. The game is unlikely to use DirectStorage on Xbox, because I don't think any game uses it yet and I'm not even sure if it's already available on the development tools. And yet word is that load times are actually a bit faster on Series S over the PS5 (no doubt because it needs to load lower quality assets, but still). So you'd think it doesn't really use the extra speed all that much. When Epic releases the assets and project, someone will undoubtedly port it to PC, and then we can see how it really compares to the consoles even without DirectStorage. We'll even see if it can be run off a SATA SSD. Yeah, I'd definitely like to see stuff like that tested. The most impressive thing for me was the LOD stuff which suggests that Nanite is the real deal. We'll see what happens when they introduce vegetation though! |

Just a bit frustrating that the only real next gen experience is not even a game. Even one true next gen game incoming would be something to look forward to. I do laugh at how a lot of people these days want everything instantly. Patience. It’s a tech demo. You’ll get a game like this is 3-4 years. |

Seen the state games are being released in these days. Must be like herding cats getting all the teams involved to produce a game in these end times. Fuck, I work in low level IT and I can barely go 10 mins WFM without wandering off to do something. But yeah, where are our Unreal engine 5 games made with the tools they are only just now getting  |

Dark Souls remake, Ratched and Clank and definitely the upcoming Horizon all look pretty "next gen" to me. If you're expecting much more than that you're probably going to be disappointed.

Remember that it always takes time for these new engines to actually be used to make games too. Gears of War didn’t come out til a year after 360 for example and that was the first ‘proper’ UE3 game.

I have tried it though, it didn't look that much different to the 60fps mode really which already looked amazing. |

Does make you wonder just what can be done if something like this can be cobbled together for a film promo. Aren't we lucky to be getting GTA V.9 instead?
The set piece part immediately made me think of a Quantic Dream game for some reason.

Yeah. I don't have a 120hz TV for the 40hz mode, but I played through it in native 4K RT Quality mode, then went in to clean up the few trophies I needed for the Platinum in 60fps Dynamic RT mode, and framerate aside, it was hard to tell the difference from the Quality mode's visuals.

Put my in the wowed with jaw agape camp.
Sure the shooter on rails is heavily scripted, but it is running in real time as you have save your ammo to reload after shooting the agents as they jump to keep it going a little longer.
But holy damn it looked good.
The night time illumination still needs works as in motion and panning the camera is looks bad imo. But the rest is superb.

Yeah, and you can see the seams. When walking around the city, you can see the things off screen load in, but it's still very impressive for a quick tech demo, and the illusion would work for a cutscene, or something scripted.
Having said that, I'm probably more impressed overall by Horizon 2 since that's a full game running in real time.

The physics is cool. The girl was tooling around and actually caused a four car pile up. They all shunted into each other as a car normally would. Really impressive stuff.
