Anyone else picking up Switch Sports? I'm still without Internet access, but I certainly plan to rinse the bowling and goofy football game. I'll have two leg straps come Friday. Hopefully nobody shins the coffee table.

Do you need a leg strap? Can't you just stuff it into your sock?

Possibly? I thought the strap had to be on your thigh, like with Ring Fit, but thinking about it, that makes no sense.

Let us know when you try it all out please as I'm thinking of getting the Sports game myself.

Will do! Its only 35 quid at the moment, with the strap, so should at least be good value for money.

Thanks everybody for telling me about CDKeys (how did I not know about that site before?). Just got Mario Kart 8 and the Booster pack for more than 40% off than the offensively priced Swiss Nintendo eShop.

I've just ordered it - FOMO and all that.
It's the first physical games I've bought for the Switch, but it makes sense - get a strap and it would be useless on the Lite anyway I guess.

Picked it up and had a quick go on tennis and badminton, Classic Ninty sports.
Extended session with the kids incoming once they finish school. Can’t wait!! Feels like 2006 all over again. Except there were no kids!!

So after a couple of hours play;
Volleyball and Badminton are bloody fantastic. Especially volleyball.
Bowling plays as expected. Tennis is good, I just prefer the fast paced badminton.
Chambara seems like it could have some depth to it with repeated plays, kids are just flailing round at the moment!
Football is a weird one; not for me. But my 10 year old is loving it. Combines his two loves of football and a rocket league like experience.
For £30 I can’t grumble, but I think golf should have been included.

The limited online points for players without online subs is a bit tight, I’m racking up the extra clothes while my daughter doesn’t

Didn’t realise that was a thing as we have the family membership.

You can only earn two items per week without a sub. family account would be wasted here tbh, I don’t even justify my own sub

As someone who regularly plays Wii Sports with the brats, how does this compare? Are the controls better or worse? Is it basically the same?

Pretty much the same in terms of playability.
Graphics obvs updated, HD, looks lovely. Motion controls are also definitely improved and more nuanced.
Bowling and tennis arguably the same.

Good to know. Will have to grab at some point.
I'd have thought the switch motion controls wouldn't be as good as the wiimote ones, though I know nothing about the tech inside.
I'll be sad if I no longer have a reason to justify my Wii hanging out under the tv though...

The original wiimote was pretty shite wasn’t it, just ran off accelerometers. The switch controllers are more like the motionplus remote with spatial tracking

I guess it's because the switch doesn't have a bar, so I assumed it was just accelerometers in the little tiny controllers.
Just Dance on the Switch doesn't seem to track in much detail.

Probably a design choice by Ubisoft, it tracks in Skyward Sword the same as the motionplus (which didn’t require the sensor bar on the Wii iirc). The sword fighting game on Sports is basically the same thing. Joycons have a gyro in both controllers while the motionplus only added it to the wiimote

I use the UK shop, not the Swiss one, with the crazily strong Swiss France, always works out cheaper.

Back on Ring Fit adventure fora bit of a workout.
Why o why haven't Nintendo released some other games using the peripherals? Would surely be simple to knock out a few downloadable releases.

Had a couple of goes on Switch Sports and I like it. The placement seems accurate with the Joy Cons and it's really forgiving. Only one I haven't got on with so far is the football where you use your leg. Didn't seem to track at all. Wish it had boxing again!

Bought a bunch of Star Wars games during the May the Fourth sale. Racer is so good. I want them to port Shadows of the Empire next.

I’ve been playing Dusk recently. It’s an excellent game.
That is all.

My little opinion on Switch Sports; Its great, but I still have no online access, so I'm only able to play against friends locally.
Having said that, this is probably the best way to play it. 16 player bowling and the footy aside, there isn't much appeal to playing alongside strangers in most of these sports. When it comes to a head to head scenario, I'd rather know the person I'm playing against. It definitely adds to the tension better.
A few nights ago I used this game for pre-drinks with some friends, but we ended up staying in and playing this all night instead. Badminton was surprisingly the best of the bunch for a quick duel. Many laughs had for something quite basic.
Overall, though... It is a slim package, for sure. Its a lovely looking game and every sport plays well, but unless you're lucky enough to share the experience with others, it will quickly get old. There's no incentive for solo players to persist with this. In a larger household though there's room for rivalries and high scores to chase (bowling and eventually golf), which most games lack these days, but leaderboards, mini tours or achievements would be very much welcome.
Also, in regards to the cosmetics and how difficult they are to obtain offline; they literally hold no value in a local multiplayer environment. I mean, if you're a kid you might get some genuine enjoyment out of customising your avatar, but as one adult playing against another, you don't care what you or friend's character looks like.
Overall, a great game visually and mechanically, but I would only recommend it to those who share their Switch with others or have somebody to play with.

The online is good, there’s incentive as its how you unlock new gear. My daughter and I only really play 2 player online, it’s a better experience than 2 player local generally

I didn't know you could play 2-player and online! This does change things!
But, I am having a nightmare sorting out internet in my new flat. No copper wiring or fibre in my building, so I am gonna have to get a stupidly expensive 5G device instead.

It’s quite smart, you can pick 3 sports you want to play and it’ll put you in on whichever is available. The single player games alternate between players, then tennis and volleyball you’re in a team against 1 or 2 other players. The bowling and football are great fun, particulary bowling as you’re both in a knockout tournament of 16, it gets pretty exciting. The emoji stuff is well executed so you can interact with the other people, with points going towards unlocking new emojis as well as clothes and stuff

Bought CIV for £7. What the hell is going on. Have no idea what to do or click, and there’s very little in tutorial.
