(Essentially a general purpose Switch thread...)
Anyway, I grabbed Art of Rally and Islanders yesterday. Played a bit of AoR - seems good. It's far less arcade-y than I expected from the look of the game, but I think once I get the hang of the handling, it should be a blast

Just started Skyward Sword (first temple done) and it's great. Makes more sense why I didn't get on with BoTW; there was no Zelda in my Zelda game

Can anybody recommend a recent switch release 10 quid or less? Doesnt matter what it is, if you've found something great in the glut of dross on the eshop I'm all ears. I'm asking because I'm bored and looking for something small I can blast through immediately 🙂

Sorry, it isn't really recent, but it is good. Nice and mellow.

Maybe so, but do you have any advice on recent Switch games for £10 or less?

Makes more sense why I didn't get on with BoTW; there was no Zelda in my Zelda game I thought and still think BOTW is the best open world adventure game ever created. I'm also currently just over half way through Skyward Sword and whilst I think BOTW is a better game and a better direction for the series I would agree that there is very much a place in gaming for traditional Zelda too. I'm having a lovely time with it.

Yup. BotW feels more like a Zelda themed spin off with nearly all the guts ripped out of it. It's much more it's own thing than an advancement or interation of the classic Zelda fomula. It'd be nice to get an RE situation where they released new and old styles of games simultanteously but I think it'll be a long time until we can a full fat classic Zelda. Not until people get bored of open words and start raving about how the next Zelda is going to be going back to its roots and will be amazing for it
I'll probably be dead by then or my fingers won't work properly

Started playing Stardew Valley the other day. So far it feels pretty stressful - not much is explained to you at the start, the interface is a bit fiddly, time moves too fast and you have to be in bed by a certain time. Doesn't help that most of the starter guides are all about how to maximise the time you have in the first few days. I know the game has goals, but it definitely feels the polar opposite of something like Animal Crossing. Quite charming and addictive though.

This very same thing pushed me off Stardew for over a year. I found it stressful and was acutely aware there was probably a "right" way to play it. I found that if you find a daily loop that works for you just stick with it and you will be fine. Also don't farm when it rains and build sprinklers as quick as you can. After that it's much more open. Once it clicked I found it incredibly addictive and just downright excellent. Also, getting things slightly wrong gives you a chance to replay it and build on what you learn. I have friends who replay it annually and they still find new ways to do things. They also have spreadsheets but we don't talk about that

Yeah, I'm trying not to focus on all the goal stuff and just trying to enjoy it at my own pace (for now). Can see myself getting obsessed otherwise!
As for the Switch OLED, I pre-ordered it with the intention of possibly cancelling it closer to release, but now I'm really looking forward to it. Always wanted an OLED screen on the Switch, and the bigger screen + battery improvements (over the first-gen model) are a nice bonus too.

I felt the same way but I enjoyed it much more just playing as I liked.

Wasn't a great fan of Stardew for the same reason. I just seemed to be rushing to a mine or to something in the village, spending a few minutes there and rushing back before it got dark. I'll have another go sometime.

I'm not much of a fps whore but having played it on Xbox Series X, I'm wary of double-dipping to go to a choppy framerate. Might wait for Steamdeck.

+1 for finding Stardew Valley oddly stressful, which I’d presumed was the polar opposite of what was intended. I should really give it another shot and just not worry about it.

Got the Great Detective Chronicles a few days ago, it’s so good to be back in the courtroom. My first game on the Switch since Link’s Awakening two years ago, too, I’d already forgotten how much I like it.
No plans to get a newer model, though.

How is Art of Rally performance wise. I have had it on pc since day one, but wouldn't mind it on the new switch.

I'm a good few hours into Gnosia now. If you like visual novels with a bit of RPG mechanics in terms of levelling up, really recommend it.

Now that I think I've got the hang of the basic mechanics after a few in-game days, I'm going to start over to do things properly rather than just faffing around. And also because I can perhaps come up with a more romantic name for my farm than DeezNutz.

However, I tend to be pretty forgiving when it comes to framerates and stuttering, so you may notice it more - especially after coming off the PC version...
