Has Nintendo ever done an update to framerates on their games? Other than please buy it again.

Don't think so. Wii and Wii U backwards compatibility seemed to just be 1:1 performance. If they do actually enable performance enhancements for BC titles it'll be a first.
I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to just say "Fuck you! Buy it again!"

The stuttering in Link's Awakening really bothered me, to the point where I stopped playing. It felt regular enough that I was constantly aware of it. I read that it's improved if you get it digitally rather than playing off a cart but that sounds like it might be bollocks

Having spent some more time with Echoes of Wisdom, I must say that it is brilliant! The lack of / limited direct combat means you need to figure out which echo works best against which monsters. It just feels fresh. Collecting echoes is also quite addictive. The stuttering has been minimal so far - I only really noticed it at the start in the castle town.

Same here, but I think that I was concentrating, trying to notice it. I barely noticed it in Awakening, but I have friends that also complained Echoes is unplayable for them because of it. Which is a shame, as so far it is a great game.

I did notice the stuttering in Castle Town. It was repeatable in one area too. I'm only up to the first proper dungeon, but would say that the performance is better than Link's Awakening up until this point.
So far, I have the same feeling I had playing Metroid Dread -- that this team has been given their shot of making a mainline entry in a Nintendo series, and they've put everything into it. It's been made with love.

Bit crap of them to release another game with the same issue. It's also annoying because it's one of those things some people seem to notice and not others, so it's hard to know whether to give it a go or not. It really bothered me in Link's Awakening

Yeah I like to echo (no pun intended) this. I wasn’t really feeling the game during the first main dungeon and my mind was wandering into even playing an another game, but Ive done a complete 180 on it, finding it really addictive now and just want to pick it up all the time. Done the second dungeon and now looks like doing my third. I really like how expressive it is, feels a bit stop motion (no not the frame rate!) at times with the reactions from npcs. As usual for Nintendo these days it just full of ideas. The echoes make for some interesting platforming and puzzle elements, and as you say makes combat a bit of a puzzle too. It’s great. As for the FF, I havn’t noticed it too much, only when I was rushing through one area to another but playing it at a usual pace, it seems fine to me. But I’m not one to be too frustrated with frame rates.

If anybody's looking for some cheap x-mas presents, I noticed my local B&M had some Switch games on sale for £12. Nickelodeon Kart Racers was among them.

Got fed up of never having enough space on the switch and having to juggle data, so I got a microsd card that's twice as big. Now I have to download all the games again

I was going to do the same but then figured with the Switch 2 being imminent, I could wait to see what is announced on that front.

Is there anything decent lined up for the rest of the year on Switch, or are we just waiting for Switch 2 now?

Is there anything decent lined up for the rest of the year on Switch, or are we just waiting for Switch 2 now? The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake soon, off the top of my head (1+2 should be early next year). And the new Mario&Luigi, Brothership, a few days before that.

Advance Wars is keeping me quiet at the moment. I always feel like I'm shit at it but I always get an A or S in the end
Really appreciate how there's no fluff- just one battle then the next. Not even any leveling or anything like that. Wish more games were happy to just be one thing

Been playing the Paper Mario TTYD remake, myself. Turns out Nintendo can still turn grown-ass adults into smiling, giggling kids, even with just a remake And the new soundtrack is a joy, especially (incredibly minor, non-story spoiler) all the chapter-/area-specific battle themes

I still have that sitting on my shelf untouched, next to a partly touched Pikmin 4. Never played the original, so looking forward to it, but it is somewhere in the backlog at the moment.

Also, having played both TTYD and Advance Wars now, it seems that IntSys were at least partially influenced by the CO themes from Advance Wars when making the TTYD remake's soundtrack... Chapter 3's new final boss theme has some riffs that sound very similar to parts of Alder's theme from AW2, for instance. It's pretty sweet catching the similarities!

Imagine if Nintendo had posted a teaser beforehand promising a special video showing new hardware... they missed a trick really.

I have a Triforce alarm clock. I think it came with an import game. It is all I need. If I remember to set it and replace the batteries.

This is just idle interest, but has anyone played games like Witcher 3 or Doom (new) on Switch? They seem like they'd struggle on the hardware.
Also, has anyone tried any of those Cloud Version games (Control, and some others I forget the name of)? I assume they're fully streaming and so depend a lot on your network connection, but I've never heard anyone mention them.

I finished Witcher 3 on it.
It was fine! Emphatically not the best way to play it in terms of graphics and such, but it ran mostly smoothly and wasn't broken in any way.

I've looked at them and people seem impressed by them. They've probably all got a DF video but those aren't games I'd want to play a super cut down version of. Plus you can get Doom and Doom 2 on Switch anyway so who cares
Why are all the Switch focused YT channels weirdos
