I'm playing Witcher 3 on Switch (portable). It runs fine. It's amazing they got this to run as it does on Switch. The only drawback is the looong loading times, especially after you die. And the text might be a bit small (but I have reading/gaming glasses for that 🤓)

I'm still shocked at how well Nier Automata runs.

I too am a Switcher, completed all of it in the palm of my grubby little hands. Looked fine to me for the most part, just a few cut scenes looked rough but nothing major.

Interesting. I wasn't even considering it on Switch as I assumed it'd be rubbish (nu-Doom as well), so my mind has been opened.
How about the Cloud versions? Anyone tried those?

I'm sure I tried a trial of Control to see what it was like. It worked.. that's all I can remember.

You do get an hour free with every streaming title to see how it holds up. Personally I’ve never bothered, but at least that’s something!

Now I want Yakuza. Apparently the Switch version is the only one with licensed music?!

Wait, Hellblade 1 is on Switch?? No way that runs and looks like it does in the screenshots!

It really does! There’s a rather good Digital Foundry video on it that is well worth a watch.

Just broke a Joy Con with some good old fashioned game rage. Was playing a lot of Splatoon recently and kept triggering my special attack whenever I turned left. Wasn’t sure if it was the controller or me pushing on the stick too hard as I rotated it, but now the stick is no longer in the controller.
I’m 37 and still doing shit like this. Embarrassing.

I found the switcher port probably a port too much for the switch. The resolution is realllly low. It’s feels pretty good, and it’s impressive they got it running at all but does come at a cost. Maybe one of those that after a while you just get used to it. Only payed it up to the inn in white orchard to be fair and I think they released a few updates since I last had a look. Been tempted to try out doom and Wolfenstein myself but havnt got round to it yet. Nier Automata is great though, and No man Sky is impressive too.

If you have an alternative definitely get that version rather than the switch one, but at the time I only had a switch and I thought it was pretty solid. I have no idea how they did it tbh.

Having watched that digital foundry video now, it seems a lot of these 'shouldn't work on switch' ports use aggressive dynamic resolution scaling.
When playing handheld this is apparently less noticeable, but if docked i guess it depends on the size of your tv. But
I'm not that picky about such things, so I've found its often a decent solution. The resolution trends to drop in the moments of most action, which tend to be the moments when I'm most involved in actions rather than eye candy, so I'm less likely to notice. It looks awful in YouTube videos when you're just observing though.

At launch Switcher was pretty blurry and very aggressive with dynamic resolution, but the update a few months later that added image sharpening and other IQ options helped things a lot. Long loading times were still an issue but other than that it's a great port.

Long loading times were still an issue but other than that it's a great port. I redownloaded it last night to have a look and ended up playing it for a couple of hours. It’s such a great game. But yeah kudos to the developers they’ve done a lot of work to it.

Well, after the red joycon being a fucker all week and regularly disconnecting and/or not registering button presses... it turns out it was all a cunning misdirection because the blue joycon is now apparently a paperweight. Joy!
I mean, they've always been cheaply made pieces of junk, but the annoying thing is that the *one* thing that might get them free repairs (stick drift) is the one thing that hasn't gone wrong.
Regularly disconnecting when docked? Check. Dock 'locks' not working? Check. Top 'bar' with the SR/SL, reset button and connection lights failed on both? Check. Regularly disconnecting when not docked? Check. Laggy? Check.
Now to decide if it's worth trying to argue with Nintendo Japan about free repairs, and when they refuse, whether it's worth paying for repairs given it'll cost half the price of new joycons and something else will probably fail soon after.

What are folks thinking about in terms of when or if they will over to the Switch 2, whenever it appears? I'm assuming it will be a more powerful console but in the same hybrid format. Of course there's likely be some weird tech gimmick as well.
If it's backwards compatible and offers some performance boosts for old Switch games then I could be convinced to be an early adopter. Even with BC, unless there are some very compelling early games I think I'm fine waiting for a year or two for more games to release.
There's also a chance that I may conclude that the Switch game library is just fine as it is and not move on at all.

Full BC with performance improvements and Metroid Prime 4 at launch? Shut up and take my money!
If there's a delay for MP4 and BC is just identical performance then I'll hold fire.

As long as I can afford it, I’ll be there day one. New tech is always exciting, but that gamble really paid off on Switch. Probably my all-time favourite console and my favourite design, so I’m glad they’re sticking with it. Playing games in bed is the best.

If there's something I want to and can only play on the new console, I'll get one. Otherwise not much point. The games are all I really care about
Seems like N aren't completely done with the Switch anyway, with Xenoblade and DKCR next year

If I had the choice between all 3 consoles I would go with the Switch. Even with the back catalogue of PS4 etc. Nintendoes.

The BC is pretty much a given at this point, but I'm hoping they will actually have improvements too - otherwise I can imagine the Switch 2 will be a tough sell early on to those who aren't fussed about any new exclusives and happy to continue sticking with (or buying) the current Switch.

After selling my Switch earlier this year I'll probably be onboard for Switch 2 as I've been missing a bit of Nintendo in the house! It will likely just come down to launch price for me as I always feel you know what to expect on the game front (which suits me!) and there are a few more re-releases on the Switch I missed out on that would keep me busy on some new hardware.
Also it might soon be time for my child's Mario Kart training to begin. The boy must learn.

I feel like I only bought the Switch yesterday*, and we still have dozens of unplayed games or games we want to play but haven't bought, so personally I have no reason to get the Switch 2 any time soon.
I'm still buying Switch games regularly, so BC is both a must, and something that won't especially push me to buy a Switch 2 soon.
The unknown factor, of course, is how much the brats whine about wanting one, which will probably depend on what their mates are playing, so it'll depend on launch games.
*Actually 2020 I guess.

Very sensible. There is so much to catch up on if Nintendo games a generally popular in your household. Let alone the mileage you can get from some of them, like the Zelda games, Splatoon, Mario Party, etc…

It's not even particularly Nintendo games, there are so many low priced games on the eShop that I could probably buy a new game a week for the next 5 years and still not run out of ones I want to play.
Plus I still have Steamworld Dig 2, Aer, Unravel 2, Brothers, Biped, Slime Rancher, etc.. that I've bought but haven't even installed yet.
But if anything, it'll be the big Nintendo games like the next Zelda, Mario Whatever or Pokemon that mean I get nagged into getting the Switch 2.

If they can pull off another opening year like they did with the Switch, it would hard to ignore. Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart, Mario Rabbids, Arms, Xenoblade 2. What a mental first 9 months.

Get a Pokémon in there. That legends game has to be a launch one doesn’t it?
