Unreal Engine 4 is heavy on all consoles. Really don't know why some many developers use it. UE5 doesn't seem like it'll improve things much on the performance side either, since even the PS5 and Series X tech demos have focused on 1440p. So yeah, you have the big new consoles struggling with it now, it's only gonna be a worse showcase on the older portable. That said, this and Octopath look so stylistically old school that the blur doesn't really bother me. Yeah, I get that about UE4 and I don't understand why it's used for a game like this either. I know it allows for a bunch of fancy visual effects but legibility and IQ is much more important for a strategy game imo. Anyway, completed the first battle and the mechanics seem pretty solid, but think I'll leave it for now and maybe pick it up when it's cheaper sometime. I actually started playing FFT about a year ago so better off just continuing with that. Also, F-Zero X is out on NSO now but sadly the frame-rate is a bit stuttery :/ disappointing but hopefully it can be patched.

The ability affects are pretty snazzy. Noticed earlier that if you use tempest and rain, the rain actually falls at an angle. Really cool detail
Managed to beat that level after giving it some thought. Had my archers plinking away at them, so the AI moved their units into the middle of the map, out of range, and would not budge. Felt like the game saying 'nah, not doing that, you come to us.' The game just keeps getting better the further in you get and more abilities you unlock

Understandable about Advance Wars, but I'm still annoyed. Hell, I'm still annoyed that I wasn't playing it on Christmas Day like I thought I would be.

Beat Xenoblade Chronicles 2 tonight, back half of the game is absolutely wonderful. Glad I've finally played it (had it since launch!) and now ready for 3!
Tomorrow, I start Triangle Strategy, very much looking forward to it.

Chapter 18 of Triangle Strategy is messing me up. Not sure I can get through it on Hard - there aren't a lot of options as you're just set upon and the map is basically flat with you starting with your back to the wall
Had a Mario itch for a while so I'm playing some Oddysee instead. It's definitely not because I'm sulking

Ha weird I'm also on Odyssey. I'm still playing Triangle Strategy every so often. Just haven't got the concentration at the moment with getting broken sleep.

Tomorrow, I start Triangle Strategy, very much looking forward to it. I absolutely loved XC2. I agree with the second half of the game. Normally with open world games/RPGS, I find the second half a struggle, but this was one of those rare games where I just didn't want it to end. Really enjoyed it. It is one of those where the more I think about it, the better it gets in my head. Yet to play Torna. Really should before XC3.

You can now organise your games into groups. A bit like folders, but they're all organised on a separate screen to all the unorganised game icons.
All I've done is group together all the retro game apps, like the NES, SNES, Mega Drive and N64 stuff, along with the Castlevania, Contra and Capcom Arcade compilations and I'm done. Not sure what else I'd want in separate folders or groups.

I made a backlog group. It’s much larger than I would like to admit.
But it did push me to restart Monster Boy and the cursed kingdom. So there’s that.

I've not got one but when I do! I made one for the NSO apps,My online games (Rocket League, FIFA, Smash etc.) Game night (couch multiplayer) then I did a few genre ones until I was bored 😂

It's not on sale or anything, but has anyone tried the Switch version of Knights of the Old Republic. I've been wanting to replay that lately, and this could be the place to do it.

Yeah, I remember it being clunky even at the time. Final Fantasy XII and Xenoblade came and did its combat system better. But I've been playing the original Mass Effect (LE) on Series X and it's making me nostalgic both for it, and KoTOR. as long as it runs well both docked and portably, I'm basically ready to buy it. I guess I just wanted confirmation that it's a good port

It is a very good port.
Just most combat is Swing miss miss miss miss miss miss miss lucky crit dead.
And systems are very opaque.

Hotshot Racing is on sale at the moment. Fantastic arcade racing game by Sumo, who worked on the OutRun 2/2006 ports and a bunch of the Sonic kart racers. I have it on Xbox already but don't mind double dipping at all to have it portable. Same with Blazing Chrome; a 16-bit Contra clone.

Fine, launch it with Switch Pro and excess shiny please.

BotW2 delayed to spring 2023 Could aim for a March 3rd release and hit the 6-year anniversary of the first one then... Good (?) timing for a Switch Pro release to pair with it as well, perhaps? Still, they really should take as much time as they need, it's supposed to be even bigger and better than the first one after all. Plus the expectations will be sky-high after all this time, so...

I'm still working through divinity 2..what with this and elden ring I don't think I'll ever get to play anything else again! Is it any good? I saw some articles mention poor performance and game breaking bugs. I bought Loop Hero the other day but sadly it hasn’t clicked for me so far. My most played switch game is actually Into The Breach and I’m trying to find something to scratch that itch but nothing has come close so far sadly. I did wonder if Triangle Strategy might be good - is the demo still on the store?

I'm 90+ hours into divinity 2 and I've had no problems until I hit the last chapter. I've had a few crashes which hasn't happened until now. As long as you save often its not an issue and I'm still seeing it through till the end.
The game itself is brilliant and happy with the shortcomings (graphics, controls etc) to be able to play it on the train.

The BotW2 delay's not exactly surprising, but kind of just raises expectations more and more. Nintendo generally do have a pretty good track record with direct sequels though, so fully hoping it expands upon and improves on the original in meaningful ways, rather than just being more of the same six years later.

Eastward is getting a physical European release next month. Shame for anyone who went for the stupidly expensive import/8 bit one..

Forever Entertainment is remaking House of the Dead?
While I enjoyed their Panzer Dragoon remake, I feel this one really erases the original's style and makes it look like some generic mobile rail shooter.

I've just realised I haven't touched my Switch since late January. Is it a bad idea to keep it docked but not used for such a long time?

Not that I'm aware of. I have a launch Switch that I can often go extended periods of time without use. Not had any problems. I suppose you could unplug the power cord just to make sure you aren't using any excess power.
