Good old GAME. One copy and they've taken the joy out of it not being sealed.

Just beat a level where they start you off in a really disadvantaged position. It actually mattered where I placed my units, which ones I used and my first move was crucial to how I wanted things to go. Beaming!
Also managed to use ram to knock an enemy into another and a spring trap at the same time so he bounced into him twice doing damage to both of them both times. No combo bonus though, boo
Anna is the bestest
Love this

Mario Party Superstars can do one. Just played an online game in which, over 15 turns, I rolled higher than 3 on just 3 occasions. I know you can be unlucky, but I almost want to call foul play. I had almost 200 coins from mini games but barely made it around the board once.
Think I'll stick to playing with friends and family from now on.

We had some massive arguments over Christmas with the game. Proper screws you over.

I've calmed down now, but literally I moved less than 67 spaces all game. Thats with 2 triple dice rolls as well. The winner moved 159 spaces. Still managed to nab 3 stars, but only by theft.

Reading some reviews of Triangle Strategy, apparently around an hour of cutscenes between each battle? Seems ridiculous and completely unnecessary. Shame, as the strategy side of it is apparently great.

Shame, as the strategy side of it is apparently great. Haven't timed it but I'm enjoying the story and haven't been bored yet. A lot of them are optional scenes you have to select from the world map that are coloured differently to the main story ones
There's various points in the game where you have to choose which path you want to take leading to different story outcomes/battles. The way it works is there's 7 members in your main group who vote on which action to take, you can go around and talk to them to try and convince them of the choice you want to make but ultimately have to go with the consensus. There are sections that have you walking around a small area talking to NPCs where you can gather clues that unlock speech options that might help pursuade people. That's also optional and can end it at any time, even without talking to anyone. You're not just sitting there watching an hour of cutscnes like MGS, it's a deliberate part of the gameplay.
I'm not sure what the fuss is about; the monastery sections of Three Houses were way longer, repetitive and full of fetch quests and people love that
You can also hold down the R button to fast forward through anything

It's weird because for years Square were beaten with a stick for having the opposite and now we've a bunch of call-backs to traditional tactics and final fantasy games... I honestly don't know what people want!

Yeah, I think with this, Octopath and Bravely Default, they're doing a great job of creating old school JRPGs that feel modern and exciting
I hadn't played a JRPG for ages because I lost interest and couldn't get into SMTIV but I love these

That is so weird because, as I recall, the original GBA Advance Wars release was postponed too because of 9/11.

Well I still recommend Triangle Strategy. Give the demo a go, it's pretty representative of how it plays out in terms of battles/chatter
And if you don't care for the story, they seem to have gone to some effort to allow you to get through it as quick as possible

Thanks, that does make it sound a bit better. But with tactics games I'd still much rather focus on the strategy side of things than deal with unnecessary exposition, no matter how good the story/script is. You can be concise and still tell a good story, especially if you focus on showing rather than telling - this is an issue that a lot of JRPGs have tbh. I think I was also a bit burnt on Octopath Traveler, which I really wanted to like but just felt like a grind after about 10 hours. I've downloaded the demo though and will give it a try - may still get sucked into it, since progress transfers over to the full game. That's how they get you.

See it as a visual novel. Wait for Advance Wars if you cba with cutscenes! I have bought it but not had time to play it yet. I imagine the battle to VN ratio is a lot more balanced than the Utawarerumono games (which aren't on Switch but I enjoyed).

I think the visual novel aspect to it is being massively oversold. It's nothing like that. There's no lunch dates or tea parties, no dating sim Interestingly, the speech options you unlock are not always the ones you want to pick, which stops it being a by the numbers thing. It's not just a case of get all the clues, get everything right
Just had a soft crash - at least the game seems to autosave after every turn so no progress lost

Unfortunate but understandable re: Advance Wars. I mean, even with the "bright and cheerful war" aesthetic aside, Blue Moon is more or less cartoon Soviet Russia...

The mock battles start getting more interesting after the first few, with some win conditions that haven't been used in the main story so far
I'm still discovering useful tactics that would have been really helpful if I'd thought about them in earlier missions. They've put so much thought into the battle mechanics and environment that you can really play around with things
Lost so many units on the last level and only had a couple of archers, healer, mage, one melee unit and half the enemy and boss still in play. Didn't really think it would still be possible to win but found a spot we could control with the one melee unit holding them off while I took out the archers with my ranged units, the rest were fish in a barrel. Tactics actually work in this
The old geezer archer is one of my new favourite units

Got to my first battle where I was absolutely destroyed. Only had that one go but seems impossible! I'm sure there's a trick to it, hopefully won't have to drop the difficulty down to normal. Think it's chapter 13. Battlemages are bastards in this

Why is Triangle Strategy so blurry (in handheld at least)? It's a pretty game but the pixel art can stand on its own without having extreme AA and other visual effects on top. I know the Switch is ancient now, but still disappointing that it can't run something like this at native res.

Unreal Engine 4 is heavy on all consoles. Really don't know why some many developers use it. UE5 doesn't seem like it'll improve things much on the performance side either, since even the PS5 and Series X tech demos have focused on 1440p. So yeah, you have the big new consoles struggling with it now, it's only gonna be a worse showcase on the older portable.
That said, this and Octopath look so stylistically old school that the blur doesn't really bother me.
