I think I like Goldeneye where it belongs: in my rose-tinted memory. I don't think it would hold up very well outside of that. I loved Goldeneye on N64 completed it loads of times and unlocked all the cheats and did all the cutscene mine tricks. (Baron Samadhi one was a right pain). Went back to it as early as the GC generation (after playing Halo) and found it almost unplayable because of the controls.

I'm pretty sure that playing Goldeneye again I'd think it was rubbish, even though I also completed everything on the orginal including Goldeneye level (which was a swine on the train iirc) and played hours and hours of multiplayer. I just want to have a look for old times sack more than any real desire to play the game.
That said, if it played online multiplayer, I'd try and get used to the controls again just for the proximity mine fun I used to have.

I thought that was because of the Switch interface but when I removed it that black line is still there. Regarding the controls I found this strategywiki.org/wiki/Mario_Tennis/ControlsWhich helps explain how to do lob shots and drop shots. I wish there was a switch level visible control scheme to refer to on the screen though. Can you switch off the interface stuff on these?

Goldeneye needs the N64 controller so it can be played with 1.2 Solitaire

My son's done a speedrun level on Mario Maker 2- I'm pretty impressed by it considering he's only recently got back into it...
Here's the code if anyone wants to give it a go: QHS-JTX-JHF

Is Mario Maker worth it for single player? Do you download user created levels to play offline or do you need to be online to play them?

No idea to be honest, ours is always online so I've never had to find out. I suspect you can't save levels locally and need to be online to browse through them though. As to whether it's worth it, that's probably down to how you'd use it. My kid created a few very basic levels when he first got it, quickly got bored of that, but then spent hours and hours playing other people's levels. Then after a recent hiatus of several months, he's back into the level creation again. Seems like good value, certainly better than the 60 quid 1st party titles he coveted for ages and then dropped like a stone (*cough* Smash Bros *cough*)

Unfortunately you still can't get rid of the ugly border on the sides. Why, Nintendo? It's particularly annoying as it ruins the perfect blacks on the OLED model. I'm tempted to start a petition to try and get them to remove it.

I'm tempted to start a petition to try and get them to remove it. I think that was the case with Super Metroid when I played it as well. Really weird that there isn't an option for just black borders - it's quite distracting and detracts from the game a bit

Yeah, and it's even worse with N64 and Genesis, as in pixel perfect mode with some games the image cuts into the border. You'd think that surely Nintendo will patch in an option, but I'm not holding out hope tbh.

I guess the question is if they're going to sort the technical issues! Surely there's no reason everything can't look good and run at 60fps? Yes and no? It sounds like the issues are more with Nintendo's current attitude, approach, and possibly even their knowledge.
Someone has posted on Twitter a history of Nintendo's N64 emulation.
Nintendo had a good team working to emulate Ocarina of Time on the Gamecube, and the result was surprisingly good. The same team was responsible for the Wii's N64 Virtual Console releases, where each release gets its own version of the emulator.
The leader of that team left Nintendo a year prior to the Wii U's launch.
For the Wii U's Virtual Console, Nintendo drops the old emulators and starts over with a single generic emulator that is meant to run all titles. The result was a mess.
Nintendo changed its approach again for the Switch's emulation of SMB64 in 3D All-Stars, with stuff like LUA scripts to inject new assets whiel the game is running.
For the Switch's NSO service, they rely on LUA scripting to handle any necessary game-specific fixes during runtime. It is also apparently a mess.

Hello, friends. Is there anywhere I can pre-order a code for the Animal Crossing DLC? I see amazon.com has it available but couldn't find it on Amazon UK.

Has anyone seen (or is such a thing available) a cheaper way of upgrading your online sub?
I was going to get the cdkeys happy home key above but figured if I could shrink that 30 quid down I wouldnt mind playing some megadrive games.

Check the family membership thread. If you get up to 8 people for a group it's £7.50 each.

Pretty decent sale on the Eshop right now. Tempted to get Grid, Cruis'n Blast and Burnout Paradise to scratch my racing game itch. Castlevania Advance Collection is 25% off, so I might have to have that too. And there's more! I'm going to have to get an SD card, aren't I?

Grid is actually pretty decent on Switch with enough settings to help you turn it either into a racing sim or something a little more arcade-like. Even in performance mode its a nice looking game, in both docked and portable modes.
Not Forza nice, but nice.

Was tempted by some of the sales but in the end went for KOTR. Hadn't played it in forever and I'm in a nostalgia mood.

Think I might pick up Grindstone, it has its biggest discount sale atm. Always looked interesting when seeing it. Need something like this to play while waiting for Death's Door to launch.

It should be available from now until Jan 2nd.

Went for Grid, Cruis'n and Burnout in the end and all seem pretty good. Need to try them in docked mode with a proper controller though. Got Virtual Racing for $5 too and it's banging. Tempted by Tony Hawk's - anyone got it on Switch? How is it?

Virtua Racing is excellent. Tough, but it plays beautifully.

Plus it’s £11!

I might just go for the digital for this one as the physical is a massive mark-up, I have a month to decide though. Thanks for the feedback.
