Imma gonna wait for the John linneman verdict He will likely rip into it, which is pretty fair. The NES and SNES ones are pretty bare bones.

Do all the split screen games have online play or just selected titles? F-Zero X is one I hope has it.

You party up before picking a game, so 4 people can even watch one person play a single player game, bizarrely.

Reports of bad latency on Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. Damn.

Yeah, a friend says audio isn't even loading on some Mario kart tracks or volumes change between races.
Nobody talking about the Mega Drive games. Hopefully they're alright.

You'd think, after all the backlash over the pricing, that Nintendo would at least make sure the games were all up to scratch and performing like they should do? It's ridiculous, but also not at all surprising.

How are Nintendo so utterly awful at anything online, the retro games and game save back up are nice but next to no social side, no chat to speak of, and what would have been dated a decade ago style of approaching the whole thing <sigh>

They still use dial-up at Nintendo HQ.

Can confirm some of the bugs on the N64 app. Lost all Music on Mario Kart 64 this evening, after a single race. Controls were responsive, but engine noise alone isn't fun.
Super Mario 64 also felt like it had 'soupy' controls until I quit and rebooted the app. Like a minor delay that wasn't there second time around.
Kinda gave up and went over to the Mega Drive stuff, which seemingly works fine. Played about an hour of Bloodlines, which I've never played before. Thought it was a remake of the original Castlevania for a moment there. Not sure qhat I make of the sound effects compared to what the SNES achieved, but seemingly good fun.
Sonic 2 also runs flawlessly. Could complete this for the umpteenth time while I wait for the N64 games to be patched.

To be honest after the Mario Anniversary collection where they used a half assed ports it's clear that Nintendo at this point are willing to phone shit in and watch as people just pay hand over fist willingly while people fall over themselves endlessly to praise them.

It's ridiculous, but also not at all surprising. Nintendo had passable N64 emulation on the Gamecube (back when even PC N64 emulation was still kind of janky), how are they managing to fail it so badly on the Switch?

Their Wii U ports, after an initial poor start, were mostly solid. Much better than this, for sure. M2 handled all the GBA stuff. The DS stuff had multiple play options... It all looked great on the Gamepad too.

Hopefully they get their act together with this service. Dataminers have uncovered 38 listings for N64 games (almost double that of the Wii and Wii U VC service) and 52 Mega Drive games. No confirmation of titles just yet, but placeholders suggest other consoles will be coming to the service too.

They will release those 38 N64 games gradually over the next 7 to 8 years.

Kinda gave up and went over to the Mega Drive stuff, which seemingly works fine. I think I already own all the Mega Drive games (plus a few more) with the Mega Drive collection available through the Switch store. I assume Sega just used the versions in that and I recall all of those being absolutely fine. Can't really explain why Mario 64 isn't running fine, when the version in the All Stars pack didn't have any issues. Hopefully they get their act together with this service. Dataminers have uncovered 38 listings for N64 games (almost double that of the Wii and Wii U VC service) and 52 Mega Drive games. No confirmation of titles just yet, but placeholders suggest other consoles will be coming to the service too. If they do that then that would be great and well worth the extra money. Switch would be ideal as a retro console, if they could get a few dozen games from a whole bunch of different Nintendo and Sega consoles, as well as maybe some arcade games. This early half arsed implementation doesn't give much confidence that they will actually achieve that though.

That moment when you load up your favourite game of all time, M64, and it feels utter shit. Urgh.
Wish I’d not bothered with this. N64 games really don’t age well….

Can’t say that’s ever happened for me.
Noticed a fair few updates and fixes to a lot of games, ocarina has much less texture compression and runs at a slightly higher framerate than my ntsc cartridge, same with Mario kart

Yeah, Mario 64 was still great when I played the All Stars version last year. Sure, some aspects of it have dated a lot, but it's still very playable and far from utter shit.
But I agree that on the whole, N64 games haven't aged that well, mostly due to the poor framerate on many of the games. F-Zero X is 60fps though and still great.

Zelda still looks lovely but I'd prefer the 3DS versions
The worst aspects of N64 games for me are the ugly 2D hud elements

F Zero X is the only one I care about really, and being able to play it online. I was hoping you could play with randos but that's not possible.
Got ocarina of time on the 3DS, Mario 64 on 3D All Stars. Nothing else screams out as must play.

Haven’t tried it on All Stars, no. I’ll keep persevering. They just don’t age well in general.
Some great news is that Deaths Door comes to Switch next month.

The only ones I'm really fussed about is Banjo Kazooie and F-Zero X.
As for Death's Door, I finished it on pc a while back. Brilliant game.

I never understand the "doesn't age well" argument with Super Mario 64. I never had an N64 I played it for the first time on DS then recently in the all-stars collection. Sure the camera is a little clunky but it still controls brilliantly and the games structure of mini sandboxes with interesting activities to obtain each star could teach a lot of modern games a thing of two about quality content and respecting players time. I'm no retro nut I find many old classics to archaic these days and sure N64 games are often incredibly ugly but he fact SM64 is still so much fun to play. when I'm normally so hard to please with early 3d games I think that's testament to how good 64 was and still is.

I played it back when it was new, 100%ed it, then never played it again until 3D All Stars. I agree. In my head, I always pegged it as the best 3D platformer of all time, and I still mostly feel that way today. Something like a Galaxy might be more inventive, or an Odyssey might have more visual flair, but the joy of just moving Mario around a 3D space is still second to none, and it's impossible to ignore its influence on gaming as a whole. I holds up incredibly well, IMO.

They’ve smashed out texture alignment issues that are notorious with that gen - it’s leagues ahead of project64 which despite its age is still terrible vs parallel64 and mupen64. Saying that, anyone wanna play streets of rage 2?
