Personally I've never had any issues with performance in TotK I was just scratching my head myself, I couldn't remember any bad bits in TotK that stood out, at least not like the Lost Woods in BotW where the framerate plummets to a contant 15fps or something daft. I thought TotK was roundly praised by DF and the like for its performance on such old hardware.

I played 4-6 hours docked and it was extremely noticeable. But I am not someone who used my Switch for games where possible and I very, very rarely used it in hand-held mode. I'm just not the target audience for it as I'm primarily a PC person and have been for 15 or so years. TOTK felt fucking awful. It's okay if it wasn't noticeable to you or others, that's fine though. I understand we all have different tolerances for 30fps/frame pacing/etc.
Re: The Pokemon games they were insufferably bad. Indefensible garbage, performance-wise. Not sure that can even be a matter of opinion?

Another one here who didn't notice any issues with TOTK.
Hard to be bothered with performance ever since having a blast as a teen playing Perfect Dark in multiplayer and barely hitting 15FPS.

It didn't bug me too much, but literally every time I interacted with a physics object the FPS dropped a little noticeably and if it was a complex interaction it definitely dropped into the teens. Mostly handheld play, not that I got more than 20 hours in.

Aunty Treats technically I did have more issues with TotK than BotW... But in the sense that with BotW I had basically none, so the bar for TotK to clear was almost underground, even one or two would be "more". The big offender was actually something I never tried myself but saw others mention though, that being (to keep it vague) getting on top of a certain dungeon before clearing it so that a certain environmental effect was still active, which combined with how far you could see taxed the hardware.

To be fair some people snark about that pretty much every time and then they end up making magic with said outdated tech pretty much every time, so... I don't get this argument though as they'd also make (more) magic if it wasn't outdated tech. I mean it more in the sense that they don't need the better tech to make magic, not that I wouldn't want a console with better specs if they decided to make one

There were some performance issues in TotK, but they were so rare considering the scope of the game that it really didn't bother me after a while. And at least with that game it's understandable, unlike Link's Awakening, which really should have just been locked to 30fps.

Was that the one in a certain sandy area? I had that issue, but soon realised that I'm not supposed to enter the dungeon that way anyway.

When I got on top of it after clearing it I didn't have an issue though, so it's probably only the sort-of-edge case of going on top early that does it.

Most of the tech issues with TotK were with the physics. Bring out the ultrahand and it pretty much always dips. There are possibly a few places on the map with issues too.
Generally consensus was it was great performance, for shit hardware. That doesn't mean it is actually good performance. Of course, a lot of this is going to vary from person to person how much it bothers them.
Pokémon S/V was absolutely atrocious though and is inexcusable. It looked rubbish, with lots of pop in a few feet in front of you and weird jerky animations and any distance, whilst still performing like arse. I actually quite liked a lot of what I saw of the game, but the performance made it barely playable.
Edit - Link's Awakening was pretty bad too.

I hate doing it through a phone. It's so dumb. You have to place the phone down near you and then shout at it. Plus if you actually want to wear a headset (for sound quality or so as not to annoy others in the room) then you can't hear them anyway. Plus you and they are still shouting. I guess you could plug a headset into the phone, but then you can't hear the game. Maybe there's some form of complex cable setup that would allow you to hear both the game and the players simultaneously, and still be able to talk? Then on the other hand you have Fortnite on switch and the voice chat just works. I used to feel the same, but if you’re talking to somebody on a headset, you’re going to be talking as loud as the volume you’re listening to. I’ve house shared with folk who’s voice has been raised because they’re are listening to things real loud, so I’d argue headphones are just as annoying as a phone. Especially considering you’re also hearing half an interaction. Also, I only have an iPhone 11, but I can place it on the coffee table nearby and not have to shout. I can speak normally. Better yet, discord seems to be able to block out TV noise really well. Not sure how it works, but more constant noise tends to be blocked out. I play Splatoon regularly at a normal volume, but nobody else seems to hear the gameplay or music from their side.

I’m so used to it now it’s how I chat with friends on all platforms. I don’t bother with the built in chat on Xbox or PlayStation.

Are Pikmin 1 and 2 (remasters) necessary/worth playing for someone new to the series or is it fine/better to just jump in at the more modern 3 and 4?

I'd probably jump in at 3.
1 may be worth a playthrough but I'd give 2 a miss - loved it at the time but 3 and 4 cover everything it did whereas 1 is quite a different beast.

I’d personally say jump in at 4 and if you love it, work backwards from 3 to 1. I think 4 is the perfect entry point and the most user friendly. 3 will teach you some of the more advanced tricks for splitting up and doing things more quickly.
Either 3 or 4, they are both super excellent games.

I'll get 3 and then 4. My brain couldn't handle doing them in reverse sequence
Also, I decided to play BotW again before TotK. Hype. I just bought a shitty Amiibo because I don't really need 30 variations of Link's tunic. Ocarina should suffice (although I haven't checked, so hopefully that does give you one)

I could definitely do a third playthrough of Breath of the Wild, but I’m current deep into playthrough number 3 of Mario Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. I’ve also got The Origami King sitting on the shelf, completely untouched.

I'm kinda hoping there's some upscaling to 4k as standard for 1st party OG switch games on the new console.

Would be nice, but I just can’t see it happening. I love Nintendo, but it’s Nintendo.

The Wolf Link seemed like the only Amiibo that actually gave you anything worth having.

Shame the Pikmin Amiibo doesn’t give you Pikmin.

My phone seems to hate twitter now. I get a blank message whenever someone links to it and seemingly a post has to be hours old for it to show up. So confusing.

Are the ore deposits/gems finite or do they respawn eventually in BotW? I never want to sell them as I know that there are NPCs that will give you something for them but they're worth quite a bit
Just arrived at Hateno after tapping out of the path to Zora's Domain as it was too annoying without any arrows. Having a really good time with it, especially after Elden Ring, just exploring for the joy of it
I now have the Trousers and Tunic of Time from my amiibo adventure. By time I get the full set, it'll be the weakest armour I've got. But I've got lots of meat
