So that Animal Crossing update is pretty huge. And the paid DLC on top is basically a sequel to the Happy Home Academy game. Jeez. I've put so many hours into this game already. I'm about to double that...

And the paid DLC is free for those with the Switch online expansion pass. Hmm... How much will that be.

Oooph. 60 quid per year for a family pass. 35 for the individual one. Thats double the price of the original online pass. I hope they have more to announce that just N64, Mega Drive and Animal Crossing DLC.

Also it sounds like you lose access to the DLC if you unsubscribe.

Also strange that the pricing for this was announced without any fanfare hidden at the end of an Animal Crossing direct.

I pay £6.99 every 3 months for Switch Online. I barely use it but I hardly notice 7 quid every 3 months and it's nice to have if I ever fancy jumping on Mario Kart 8 for a quick blast
Oh, just seen you're talking about the expansion one with the N64 stuff. Ignore me xD

I bought online last year (that runs out next month) so I could tit about with the nes and snes games but I don't play online bar a few times when that pacman thing came out and I don't play anything that tends to have DLC so what to do as I do want the N64 stuff?
Anyone fancy setting up a family account of it to share?

I've got a strange situation, I know you all won't have the answer but my wife and I share a switch. She never really had any interest playing online so I set up a family plan and filled it with friends (I just about had enough). However, when Animal Crossing came out she wanted to vist her friends so she set up her own family plan with them. So I have one Switch with two accounts on different online family plans if one of us upgrades to the expansion pass will both of us be able to access the DLC? Or will we both have to upgrade?
Edit: Dmukgr my wife might have space in her plan when I get a chance to talk to her about all this I'll let you know if she plans to upgrade.

The console will recognise the content is installed, but you won't have access to it

That DLC is pretty impressive. I was on the fence until they said it can be used on your own island. If it's tied in with the n64 stuff be worth doing for 12 months at least.
Well played nintendo

Well played nintendo From what I undertood from the Eurogamer article you keep the ability to use the new features on your Island if you no longer subscribe but you loose access to the holiday resport and everything there.

The Animal Crossing update looks awesome, I'll be asking for the new amiibo cards for Christmas. I squealed when I saw Champagne (now Frett) in the Direct. I'm happy they're bringing back more of the old GC villagers like they did in New Leaf.
I'm not sure about getting the paid DLC though, the free update already looks huge so I might wait a bit and see how I feel.

Yeah. There's definitely jo need to get the paid DLC in a hurry. It's more of a distraction from the main game, really.

Isn’t the whole main game just one big series of distractions

Oh, for sure. But this is practically a different game altogether, with progress separate from your own island. It looks great, but its enough extra content that you might neglect your own island for long periods of time.

[quote author=" Derblington" I was a product designer for some years ... clients included Tesco.[/quote] /No offence intended derbs. I was only passing through as I've just (mugged myself and) bought a Switch, and was looking for game recs. Do we have a quotes thread yet ? I think I just got some of my £300 back in good times /easily amused😚

HmmI don't think I'll be day one on going for the DLC online. The line up is a bit lacking to begin with to justify the price.

You can unlock furniture for your own island. I think you even unlock the ability to customise neighbours island houses too, eventually. Just the bulk of the paid DLC is definitely a side project of sorts. One for those who are running out of steam on their own island I'd say.

I'm up for the family account, with potentially 3 users- Myself, the lad and Father in law. It's 60 for the year so 7.5 each. Just had a look though bd it discounts depending on how long your sub is for.
Just had a look and mine goes to Sept 11 next year.

I'm up for a family account, my single subscription expired last week, and though I haven't touched my Switch for a few months now, you never know when you'll need some AC fun!

Bought Mario 3D World earlier and holy shit, I like it.
Mario 64 is my all time favourite game but I’ve never really got on with any other Mario games since. They’ve been good, but all too crazy. This has the simplicity of 64.
Looks gorgeous in handheld OLED.
Feel kind of lucky to be able to experience these games for the first time. It’s just so nice coming from a PS5 to these fun, pick up and play games.

Yeah, Mario 3D World is perfect for handheld. Bowser's Fury is arguably just as good too, despite the actual giant Bowser concept becoming annoying after a while.

Tempted by Mario 3D World, but cautious as I binned off 3D Land after getting pissed off with the endless floating levels.

I've kind of avoided Bowser's Fury because of how terribly it's supposed to run. 3D world had some weird frame rate drops for me that were off-putting enough, but I couldn't face an entire game like that.
Maybe when the Switch 2 comes out, eh...

It does have some frame-rate issues when things get a bit hectic, especially in handheld, but it's nothing major tbh. Would still highly recommend it, the short length is perfect for a slightly odd experimental Mario platformer.
