Personally, I'm quite enjoying Googling what other folks have and admiring the steel. 😎

So... A plastic coming board from IKEA I don’t know what I’d do without my Wännksläb either

The oil drained from the skins of your victims, cut using your sharpest knives. Obvs. I knew my fetish for greasy pubic hair would pay off someday.

Just got a big cast iron wok that I'm excited to use. Looking forward to developing the seasoning.
Can actually be used on a bbq too.

Cast iron is amazing, and you'll be able to pass it down through generations of your family, should you have one.
I have two Lodge skillets, and they are amongst my favourite things in the world!

That’s what most people forget about the high end stuff. I get that it’s a big upfront purchase which is a genuine barrier, but at the same time do you want to keep spending $xxx a year on stuff that needs replacing and falls apart quickly or $xxxx one time for something that could very well last a hundred years?

It doesn't even really need to be high-end stuff really. There are quite affordable cast iron, carbon steel or stainless steel pans, and those'll easily outlive any non-stick teflon pan.

The Lodge cast iron pans are pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things too. But yeah, Joe public will probably pop into Argos to buy a cheap non stick jobby instead that ends up in a landfill (and parts of it in his belly) after a year or two.
Something that really puzzles me is non-stick woks. By their nature you need to have them screaming hot, but non-stick coatings just aren't designed for those kind of high temps. They shouldn't exist.

Ooh, just seen this thread.
Latest kitchen purchase, a potato ricer - or anykind of veg ricer - had one years ago. Sort of forgot about it. But with Burns night coming, bought one.
Make: Anpro, all aluminium. Unfortunately made in China.
But it works.
Also; minoSharp (sic) Water Sharpener. Bloody brilliant for really, really, sharp knives. Made in Japan... Is that allowed?

Yep. My beef is with cheap woks with non-stick coatings. Utterly pointless.

If it’s got a flat bottom to sit on a hob it’s not a wok

During lockdown I got myself a nice carbon steel wok then seasoned it and supplemented it with a good Japanese rice cooker and a proper Chinese cleaver for chopping.
I kinda want to get an induction hob though... still considering this.

I still use my Instant Pot to cook rice almost every time.
I had a Hamilton Beach one, which was supposed to be better but, maybe I'm just dumb as bums, I could never tell the difference. The HB got damaged during a house move anyway, so Instant Pot it is.
And, yes, I do know how to cook rice in a simple saucepan, but the IP gives me one more gas flame to cook on, which is quite useful in a bloody awful kitchen like this! (I miss my range and farmhouse kitchen SO much...)

I'm tempted to get a rice cooker, but already have too many cupboards full of gadgets that rarely get used. Next purchase is definitely a ceramic lined le creuset Dutch oven/casserole/whatever you want to call it. Got a cast iron Dutch oven and it's good, but 90% of the times I'd use it are for tomato based sauces, so it pretty much never gets used.

I think I cook rice with more than 50% of my meals and have a tiny kitchen so keeping the hob free is handy. It also has settings for different kinds of rice. I always go with blind steaming it, so getting the time slightly off just involves having to scour rice off the bottom of a pan when I do it on the hob.

First thing to cook in a cast iron skillet after seasoning it?
Got it for Christmas and no real ideas beyond steak.

First thing to cook in a cast iron skillet after seasoning it? Got it for Christmas and no real ideas beyond steak. Spanish tortilla or a frittata, bread, Chicago-style pan pizza, burgers, a whole chicken flattened… most of these need to be finished in the oven under the broiler, but that's the beauty of non-teflon pans with metal handles. EDIT: Jambalaya, beef strips broccoli stir-fry, cake, a chocolate chip cookie (Yes, a single one, the size of the pan. No, I won't be paying for your diabetes treatment)…

Anyone got any good recommendations for a blender? Mines packed in now, but need something that can blend hot and cool and doesn't need a load of liquid in to get a good blend.

Back when my primary purchasing technique was to go on Amazon UK and Sort By Reviews, I bought an AEG blender, which I have remained happy with. We only really use it for smoothies, but it’s lasting well. Glass blending chamber, honestly not sure if it does “hot” as such.

Just found it (out of stock) in my previous orders.
It’s “AEG SB7500 7 Series Blender with TruFlow Titanium Blades, 900 W, Stainless Steel”, apparently, and claims special glass to handle swift temperature changes.
Other reviewers seem to use it for hot stuff.
