With the limited time most of us have for gaming and not buying games on release I think these threads should indeed include the last two years...
So Battlefield 2042...
Of course not, if it is strictly 2021 I guess either Hades or Outriders...

TBF, I was actually really looking forward to Kena when it was announced. But too many games and too many sales came this year, so I had to naturally skip some purchases. Didn't play Sackboy or Deathloop either, but that doesn't mean they're not excellent games.
but yeah, Kena is the GOAT

I'm impressed that I've managed to avoid playing any of these games except Back4Blood, which was kind of shite, and Forza 5, which I didn't play for long. And only even those two thanks to Microsoft.
(Hades is amazing but I played it on PC & Switch)

I don't think there are any games on the list that I've given more than an 8 to this year apart from maybe R&C.
Went with Metroid Dread, as while the difficulty put me off a bit it still pops into my head every now and again. Have a feeling I'll enjoy it a lot more second time around.
I've played 13 of them which is a record for me!

It's a shame people went off Hot Wheels as quickly as they went onto it. The driving is still great/10, it just needs more variety in tracks and rewards, maybe some better online modes. If I'm restricted to only games released this year, it's still in my top 5, but it's not been a huge year for new releases

The only one i've played on that list is Forza Horizon 5 and it's okay but broken as fuck in places so i suppose that gets my vote this year.
I suppose there's an argument to be made for "Favorite Game you've played this year." award if not many of us bother playing the latest and greatest games at launch or launch year.

Amazingly, I played four of those games, and also at least three other new games, which is probably a record for me. I don't usually play a game until it's been out 6-18 months as I'm normally beavering away on the old backlog. However Game Pass has given me an excuse to try stuff out.

Agree, FH5 is janky as hell, on both PC and Xbox in my experience.

Some people might mistakenly select the wrong game. Easy to do. It's not fair that Kena should miss out because people are butter fingers

So I've had a think and - seeing as I actually played more than one new game - my top five games of 2021 are (currently, without the Halo campaign):
1) Forza Horizon 5
2) Halo Infinite
3) Unpacking
4) Flight Simulator (Xbox)
5) Townscaper
Yay for Game Pass, I guess, as only one of those wasn't part of the service...
