Damn, I wish the previous post had been the one to start the new page with. That would have worked better out of context.

I don't think you can even say you like Doom if you haven't finished all the games on Nightmare to be honest

I'm finished with Vampyr (32+ hours). I didn't lose any of the districts but The Docks were pretty close. I did mess up on the story decision there, similar to Whitechapel, but in the latter case I only lost one important character because of it. I think I got the best ending. Not sure what that is dependant on exactly, but I only embraced (killed) two characters. Interestingly the last boss seems to gain a level for each time you do that. So I had a fairly easy time with that one. None of the story bosses gave me much trouble, it was mostly the minibosses like the Skal in the morgue early on or the Level 35 Vampire guarding the Ascalon Club. It seems the level disparity has some mechanical effects like damage mitigation. I was only Level 27 when I encountered the latter for instance.
I enjoyed it overall and will probably replay it at some point with a different build. This time I had Coagulation (single-target stun), but barely used it and my ultimate was Blood Cauldron (damage and explode one enemy). I went for the bloodsucking variant of Shadow Mist, which was a bit hit-and-miss. Its area of effect is bigger than for the damaging version, but single enemies were good at evading it. On the other hand, it was quite useful against groups. Upgrades to health and stamina were basically just a necessity and useful upgrades while at the same time pushing the character level to fulfill level requirements for other skills. And they are relatively cheap as well.

Halo 2: Anniversary (Game Pass)
I had my issues with the first game which this has fixed for the most part and is better as you would expect from a sequel. Levels are more varied and better designed, there's more weapon variety + dual wielding and more set pieces. I also enjoyed learning the history of The Covenant which helped keep the story going.
My criticism though is that I think the game goes on about four or five levels too long and was becoming irritated. It feels like they ran out of ideas and the best they could come up with was another vehicle/horde section in between repetitive tight corridors (where you can get caught on the scenery that's being blown about) that feel never ending. It all becomes messy. Fuck knows how I beat the final boss.
Like the first game it has a good start but a poor final run.

Zero escape on gamepass.
Completed this when it first came out on the vita and when I saw on gamepass thought it would be fun to do again. Gamepass on series s as a retro machine next to the ps5 is a great combo.
Anyway, fucking loved it again. Utterly bonkers but compelling and somehow makes sense. I think. Or maybe falls apart if questioned. But seems to make sense.
I don't know. All I know is that it is fantastic.
9/10

It's really hard to say anything about it without just spoiling bits of it, so will just shut up now. Would be interested to hear what you think about it, if you do play it.

I played it on release and loved it. Been a fee years though and there was a big gap between 2 and 3 which meant I forgot stuff. I may pull out my vita for a run through.

Sunlight: A small "Walking simulator". It's a walk through a forest accompanied by Tchaikovsky and many different voices that emerge from the trees all telling the same story. Wonderful.

Finished the new Dimension of the Machine episode of the recent Quake port (well, apart from the boss level because he's a pain) and thought it was a pretty good time
Difficult to compare it in terms of gameplay to the original episodes because I'm playing on joypad and it's quite a different experience. I'm playing much more slowly and carefully than I would with a mouse and keyboard, peeking into new areas, ducking around corners more, running away from kiting enemies to make up for the lack of precision. Was still able to beat it on Hard and didn't really struggle. Partly because there's tonnes of ammo. At times I had nearly 99 rockets
The levels are definitely nice to look at though - especially liked the expedition map. Even after all this time Quake is rock solid and new professional levels is great. Minus points for putting Spawns in your levels. No need for it
Going to go though the other episode Machine Games made previously again next and then Underdark (I think it's called), which I haven't been able to play before as the elevators wouldn't work when I tried it on PC. Really weird issue. Think I found someone else talking about the same bug but no solution

That sounds a lot like it has some of the same pacing issues as the first game. It isn't quite as egregious as the first game (which had other issues that compounded the pacing) but does begin to outstay it's welcome as you want your climax to be short and sharp.

Aunt AlisonI really liked Dimension of the Machine. It's amazing how good they made that ancient engine look at times, and the level design was great. Yes. Spawns are shit.

Blasphemous - Alright if you like that kind of thing. Its a bit keen on being 'a challenge' so the upgrades/spells/relics and whatnot are almost universally worthless because it wants to give you stuff to keep things interesting but doesnt actually want them to make the game easier and there are far too many OHK spike pits but overall, the difficulty is reasonably fair.
The 'puzzles' and quests are horrifically opaque and rely on you accidentally picking up an item and then accidentally stumbling on the place you need to use it or remember where the NPC is on the gigantic, unmarked map. A couple of traversal items are locked behind quests which makes for pretty frustrating progress. Oh, and I got a bug which meant it was impossible for me to get the 'good' ending, which is annoying.
Overall an ok metroidvania game made an absolute chore by some bad design decisions.

I liked Blasphemous but didn't love it. Keep meaning to go back and do/see all the new stuff but... I can't really be fucked. I keep installing it, not playing it, then uninstalling it. Never even finished. Gave up at the last boss because he was shite.

I gave up on the new area. I was at the point where I just wanted to get the game finished and it wasnt fun at all. Lightning orbs keep knocking you off platforms all the time and enemies that shoot homing orbs that take off like a third of your health. No thanks.
If you refuse help from the girl who heals you in boss fights, she eventually gives you a spell where you get two shields orbiting you, which helps on the last boss as you can still get hits in when you are getting knocked off the fucking platforms.

If you refuse help from the girl who heals you in boss fights, I have no recollection of that at all. Was she added after?

Dunno. This is the first time Ive played it (on PS++). At the first boss fight she says 'want my help?' and heals you through the fight if you accept. At the next boss fight you meet her and shes a lot older, so I refused her help because im quite butch.
Before the final boss she gives you a new spell as a reward for, basically, not killing her.

Nah, she was there when I played it. Not sure if I've played the new stuff but I did complete the first expansion. I completed it twice and thought it was pretty good while I was into it
You can do a plus game where your health bar is swapped out for orbs (one hit always loses you one orb no matter what it is, even bosses). I think that actually makes the game quite a bit easier later on, but harder at the start before you've upgraded your health

No, she's been there from the beginning. She appears just before every major boss to offer help, and after the third time you take her offer, she dies.

Ha. Definitely not in it when I played. She must have been added in.
Edit: Just looked her up. Nope. Never saw her. If she's been in there since the beginning then I never bloody noticed her. Maybe she should have been disguised as a boat.

Well, the good news is that if you never took her help, I would imagine she should be stood by the last shrine before the boss and you still can get the shield spell from her, if you wanted to just bosh the last boss.

There's some stuff you'll have to do to get the good ending before the boss if you want that. You'll have to look it up though (it involves completing a few challenge areas)

Like I say, that glitched out on me. I equipped the bead and it never corrupted. I must have died dozens of times with it on and while it what its supposed to, never dropping guilt, it never changed it state. In the end I was throwing myself into spike pits to try and get it to change.

I can't even remember the ending so I don't think you're missing much. I don't think there's an additional boss or anything like that. May be wrong Out of interest, Bongo Heracles, how did you find the controls? Rob mentioned dropped inputs in the Platformers thread but I don't remember that

Yeah, its a bit spongy. I could never quite work out whether it was me or the game that made the dash attack so inconsistent. It didnt hamper progress, though.
