When I was about seven or eight, my dad got a job working away, and he lodged with this old lady whose son had grown up and moved out (this would have been very late eighties). As she knew my dad had a little boy, she would give him her son's old Star Wars toys to pass on to me (I do wonder if the son himself ever knew about this). So every time my dad would come home, he'd bring some Star Wars toys with him, and boy were they obscure. I've got an Anakin Skywalker from Return of the Jedi - as in Sebastian Shaw, from the old theatrical cut, in his Jedi robes when he's a Force Ghost at the end of the film. I've got other random stuff too - an Emperor, his guards, stuff like that, toys I never bought myself. I've got a weird rubber Yoda glove puppet. I also had - HAD, past tense - a Rebel transport (that escapes Hoth) and a Darth Vader carrying case thing; a bust of Vader that opened up like a briefcase and you could put your figures in it. Unfortunately these last two things randomly disappeared; we think they were accidentally thrown out when we moved house in the early nineties. Anyway, not a bad little haul. My mum gave all mine to my younger cousins when I was 14 and they moved house. She claims she asked me, but not sure I'd ever have agreed to that. I have a broken twin pod from cloud city left and that's it.

I've recently become a bit obsessed with Transformers again (I'm 41). I've bought six figures and have two on pre-order (what's wrong with me?), bought and re-watched the '86 movie, am halfway through the Netflix War on Cybertron series, keep looking a the subreddit and have been reading the IDW comics (More Than Meets the Eye is solid).
So yeah, I'm totally in (again). The new toys are great. The bigger ones have an almost A3 sheet of transforming instructions. Double sided!

Some lovely childhood memories in this thread!
I have managed to keep all my Transformers and was delighted to see my son take a brief interest in them which gave me a chance to blow the dust off. Sadly now he’s more into wasteful pursuits like supporting failing football teams and video games (bah!) they’re back in storage.
But most disappointing Transformer toy? Probably Ultra Magnus which basically consisted of a G1 Optimus Prime painted white which a big plastic body to pop him into, and a head. He was then totally out of proportion to all the other toys which meant he was rubbish to play with.
I did always like Soundwave, although the idea of a Tape Deck was totally bewildering to my lad when I showed him how it worked…

I've never stopped being interested in Transformers, I just sort of drifted away from the fandom when the original Marvel comic ended in the early 90s, and only really got back into it a decade or so later when Dreamwave took over. I kinda regret falling out of the fandom, however, as I've since made a lot of friends in the TF community, and I just know how much I'd have loved it as a kid if I'd been able to chat to like-minded robo-nerds. The fact that half the creatives working on the comics nowadays were part of that UK fan community means my writing career might very well be further along than it is too.
So yeah, I'm all in; comics, movies, that disappointing Netflix show, even conventions. The only thing I don't do much of is buy the actual toys, because they're quite expensive and I don't have anywhere to display them. It's my 40th birthday this month and everyone's asking me what I want, and I want to say "Fortress Maximus, or maybe one of the combiners like Devastator or Defensor", but if I got those I've no earthly idea where it'd go and my wife would make me stick it in the loft come February.

I was thinking I never had any Beast Wars but I’ve got a sudden recollection of an armadillo or pangolin looking one (orange animal, grey robot beneath). Was there such a thing?

Yeah I'm still super pissed about that, Atari 2600, He-Man, Star Wars and god knows what other gems lost to fucking disadvantaged children. Fuck that noise, just box it up and I'll dig it out of the shed when good and ready like normal people. At least my Baseball cards still exist. Suit cases full of proper Match Box cars too now I think of it. SNES too.

As far as newer stuff goes, I have a complete collection of the Power Rangers miniatures board game because, despite it being fucking Power Rangers, it’s an absolutely outstanding game.

Does anyone remember Supernaturals? Vaguely "horror" themed toys with holograms in the chest of the figures. Had a pretty cool car toy. Now that I see it in the cold light of my late 30's it doesn't actually look as cool as I remember. Like how Visionaires had? What were the little anthropomorphic animals with holograms on their chests called?

Just googled them. So many memories.
I had the boar, the weasel, snake, crab, spider... Loads more.
If I could go back in time I'd punch my younger self right in the balls for getting rid of all this awesome shit.
