I used to work (maybe five or six years back) with a crew who were well up for all sorts of boardgames. At least once a fortnight an entire evening would get devoted to playing some. Really miss those times. :-(
I do still have what little remains of my stack out in the garage. A criminally underplayed Kickstarter version of Scythe amongst them.

Been really enjoying Champions of Hara since picking it up on a whim a few weeks ago.
It's like Mage Knight meets Dragon Ball, with less complexity but still plenty of depth, and world-building done by someone creative rather than a mathematician.

Got to play Anno 1800 this week, which I really enjoyed. Basically a tech tree game with short turns.
It's currently got the PC police moaning about it on BGG.

I completed my Feast for Odin collection the other day. Norwegians, the mini expansions, and the promos.
And I'm still shit at it and get decision paralysis.

I'm gutted that I can't buy either of the following things new to play with our ten year old:
Key to the Kingdom Atmosfear
These things had serious vibes and were pitched at just the right level for kids. The only fantasy type stuff available now either looks horribly complex or cheap.
Any recommendations welcome as we're going on holiday soon and all I have for her is Uno and Exploding Kittens. Plus Monopoly. Which I hate.

If you're after fantasy adventure style games, Mice & Mystics, Stuffed Fables or Aftermath might be worth a look.
Never played Key to the Kingdom, but it looks quite similar in style to Talsiman as well.

Sheโs ten years old, more than old enough to get her into Twilight Imperium or Advanced Squad Leader.

Thanks for some of these suggestions. Talisman and Mice and Mystics (the minis look brill for that too) look pretty decent although a lot more complex than KttK.
I think Stuffed Fables looks like a lovely idea and a year or so ago maybe, but I think she'd think it too 'babyish' now. Lockdowns of communicating with friends through apps and devices have made them all grow up too fast sadly.
I think I'll have to do some market research before I drop ยฃ50 on something as she will be in danger of getting fed up if the complexity and subject matter aren't to taste.
Cheers for the suggestions though. I had hoped she'd wanna play Age of Sigmar with me but no dice so far.๐

Not sure if this is quite the right thread, but came across the Kickstarter pitch for the potential G1 Transformers Chess set:
All 32 pieces are intended to be unique. Video noticeably doesnโt display a full board, though, which I fear maybe a little crowded. Also backing looks like it starts at $600 โฆ

Shortly after lockdown and me and a few friends started 'boardgame club' where we'd get together for a few days every month and continue our Vampire Requiem tabletop game, but also try a few boardgames.
My pal managed to get a hold of Rum and Bones for our last meet up, which was awesome. There's a really fun mechanic whereby if the game is starting to get away from you, you can perform moves that will intentionally summon the Kraken which can wreak havoc on the board and offer a really good opportunity to make up some points.
The miniatures are so cool, as well. The 'hero' characters all have such unique designs. Playing this with a fully painted set, on a dimly-lit wooden table with a mug of rum and jaunty accordion music playing faintly in the background is a very fun time.
I actually own and can play the accordion, so it must have been better for the other people who played because i tailored the music to how their game was going. So at the start of the game it was all upbeat, got a a lot sharper whenever anyone made a serious attack, and i played something a little spooky when the Kraken made an appearance.

For reference the bottom box is the length and width of a kallax cube.

Box art looks quite cool though.

Yeah, theyโre pretty decent. A handful of minor QA issues mar it a bit (wrong base on one of the minis and a few typos here and there) but not anything drastic. Itโs a relatively simple asymmetric area control game, complex but not complicated - the videos and test play so far suggest a teaching time of barely ten minutes. Comes with a co-op/solo expansion too. Loving the lore as well, itโs a post apocalyptic Japanese mythology thing, the moon has collided with the earth and unleashed a bunch of Japanese demons, and each faction has its own thing itโs trying to do. Some of the factions are batshit. Youโve got German mechs vs flying blue whales and stuff.

I extremely tastelessly started a game of Labyrinth: The War On Terror tonight, but after a couple of hands it felt too uncomfortable to keep it going. Weird times. Think only A Distant Plain would have been a worse choice.

WHich one is the COING game of the two? Is either a COIN game?
Mark on the SVWAG podcast absolutely hates one of them, the non COIN (well, he probably hates the COIN one as well) as it, according to him, argues for war and occupation as the only solution to terrorism.

Labyrinth is pretty much a precursor to COIN, but ADP is the proper COIN series.
I donโt necessarily disagree with that statement (although expansions for Labyrinth expand diplomacy options making it a bit moot) but at the same time itโs a game and not an in-depth simulation/historical study. Itโs not making any arguments.

Hello all.
Any opinions on Queendomino? I understand that its and expansion and standalone. I've had Kingdomino and have had it for a while so probably good timing to get the expansion, just don't want it to sully the original as its a nice, quick and tight play.
