I quite like Strong Songs. Kirk Hamilton analyses what makes a particular song interesting or special. Obviously depends on the song but he manages to bring things out in some songs I wouldn't usually like.

I like the Adam Buxton podcast. Probably because he’s not a born interviewer and there’s an occasional car crash. Reminds me that no one is perfect.
This week’s episode sees Kayvan Novak doing an impeccable Louis Theroux impression and that alone is worth the price of admission.
Also, everyone really should have listened to S-Town by now.

The Back Page is another great gaming one. UK based. Particularly enjoy their retrospective "Best games of 20XX" episodes.

I've sort of trained myself to avoid podcasts that are comedy mixed with some kind of serious topic like history, or politics, philosophy, that kind of thing.
Because more often than not, I'm listening and getting really interested in a topic, but then someone interrupts it with a 5-minute tangent or shit joke and I feel like they're wasting my time. It's like a podcast version of that guy you can't ever chat with about anything, because he's got this need to always be funny.
Anyway, here are some things I like
Duckfeed.tv stuff (particularly Watch Out For Fireballs, a sort of book club but for games. There's some comedy in there, but it's funny and not too distracting for me) Retronauts (about retro games) Axe of the Blood God (RPG-focused, used to be part of US Gamer) Talking Simpsons/What A Cartoon! Film Club (AV Club podcast) Travolta/Cage (going through every John Travolta and Nic Cage movie in chronological order, and pitting them against each other) Stuff You Should Know Radiolab Skeptoid

The only podcast I listen to with any regularity is "So very wrong about games" which is a boardgaming podcast. They follow the industry standard of doing news, talk about games they played last week, and then alternate between a topic of the week, or a big review.
But I like the hosts, they have a good chemistry, and they come at it from a more serious angle than most other boardgame media.

I still can't find any decent music podcasts. There's a good Chuck D one about the clash, about 6hrs or so I think and one about the pixies, which is also worth a listen. If you like either of those bands that is!

My podcast listing is way way down over the last year or so but two I’ve dug recently both from the BBC
Uncanny - ghost stories and other unexplained tales from the guy behind Battersea Poltergeist and Haunted. Basically a true crime podcast style approach to people telling ghost stories.
Things Fell Apart - Jon Ronson investigating and telling stories from the early days of the issues that are now online culture war topics. Episodes so far on anti-abortionists, book banning, AIDS and the Satanic Panic.

I've been listening to Uncanny this week, real life paranormal is not at all my usual choice of subject matter but clicked on this on a whim and it's very good. I really like Jon Ronson's writing and enjoyed his books. But fuck his speaking voice is hard work. Got 10 mins into Things Fell Apart and had to turn him off. I really should give it another go as i expect it's great stuff.

Song Explorer, each episode has the artist going into some detail into the recording and production of a particular piece of music, there's one for Hans Zimmer's Dune soundtrack that I'm looking forward to listening to next. It's a bit music nerdy.

I was reading through all the different recommendations here, and I was pleased to see that at least one person (big up, @spookyxelectric ) is a fan of a podcast that I like. Here is my list: Bodega Boys. (According to Spotify Wrapped, I listened to 207 episodes this year!) The Bugle. Conan O'Brien needs a friendThe New Abnormal (it lost a lot of steam after Rick Wilson stopped appearing on it, due to the Lincoln Podcast scandal) Jemele Hill is UnbotheredThe Read The Wire: Way down the hole. If you were a fan of the show, you may enjoy this podcast. Affable hosts who are chockful of great trivia about the show. Did you know that Ray Winstone was in line to play McNulty? But then 9/11 happened and Ray's wife didn't want to live in america for the duration for the shoot of S1. So, we got who we got. During the Trump years, I listened to probably too many podcasts from the Crooked Media network (Pod Save America, Pod Save the World, Hysteria, Lovett or Leave it, etc) but I have now decided that America is beyond redemption and that the bad guys have won. No longer interested in having the decline of that country's democracy detailed in forensic detail. Same reason I have stopped listening to podcasts dealing with UK politics. I am now only about pop culture, hip hop and offensive humour. I have also just started Breaking Bad Insider podcast, featuring Vince Gilligan himself on every podcast!!!

"Don't be asking us about The Art. You'll get it when you get it!" I hear that. But in fairness, they are very, very busy. I probably watch too much of their output on YouTube.

The Goldblum and Letterman interviews were iconic. The Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen one was great too.
They've gotten so big in the last couple of years. Being a fan since Viceland, I'm pretty proud of their journey.

I got into them very late. I heard them on their appearance on the Conan O'Brien podcast for the very first time. I think in October this year. And since then, I have been taking all their content straight into my VEINS!

You should give S Town a try. Maybe one of the best serials I have ever listened to. The (real life) story follows a man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks a reporter from a liberal radio show from New York/Chicago I think to investigate the son of a wealthy family who's allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. It just one of those that leads on to some weird and wonderful things but also being really thought provoking, heartfelt and surprising. gah it so good.
13 minutes to the moon - the story of the Apollo mission. Basically goes into everything about the mission. If you likes space stuff it definitely worth a listen
The album years - Steven Wilson (porcupine tree) and Tim Bowness (no man) take a year and talk about albums released during it. They try to avoid the big ones like Dark side etc. They both basically music nerds and it just a joy to listen to. Found a few new albums through it too.
Otherwise my main staples are just the standard ones you find in the charts. Infinite monkey cage - brian cox and robin guest panel science show No such thing as a fish - QI but radio format Athletico Mince - nonsensical Bob Mortimer football funnies
Dan snow history hit - 15-45 minute blasts of history. But be warned he releases episodes most days. It’s pointless to try and stay caught up
Radio lab - more in-depth sciene show that looks at the implications of stuff? Not sure how to describe it Invisibilla - a look how things unintentionally effect us This American life - a mix of the above with more focus on general lives of people and their stories. If you ever heard a parody of a podcast it probably based on this.
Adam Buxton - celeb interviews Dan le sac - distraction pieces - celeb interviews
A mix of Waypoint and Frame trap for gaming needs
As you can it easy to subscribe to too much!

Started listening to Well There's Your Problem in the last week or two. Recommend it to anyone who likes in-depth and fairly lighthearted talk about engineering disasters(with slides if you're watching it on YouTube).

Didn't notice the posts from start of Dec but glad to see others enjoing Uncanny and hope you still are. I really enjoyed The Battersea Poltergeist but love this more. I really like how Danny comes across, his obvious enthusiasm for the subject matter for example, and how well put together each episode is.
Don't know how many are left to run, but I'll be a bit sad when it's finished.

Do look up Haunted if you haven’t already. Its the podcast he made himself before Battersea. Quite like Uncanny. He did a good episode of Richard Herring’s podcast which is how I discovered him.

The Always Sunny in Philadelphia podcast is great. It swiftly devolved from an epsiode-by-episode breakdown of the series to three grumpy middle-aged men complaining about parking, and is all the better for it.

It's reassuring that they still sound like mates chatting over a pint after all those seasons.

Just discovered Smartless this week. Apparently it's been around for awhile and it's pretty big? Anyway, if anyone here's a fan of either Arrested Development or Will & Grace, I think you'd dig it. And also be amazed at how much those actors are like their characters. It's Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, and the concept is that one of the three books a guest and the other two have no idea who it is, so nobody's prepared beforehand with little "tell me about shooting that thing," or "so I heard you grew up in..." But it's mostly Arnett clowning his costars, honestly.
I've burned through so many episodes this week I'm almost tired of it.

Listened to two eps today for the first time on my commute. Convivial and funny (Charlie Day & David Spade eps). Bit Hollywood love-in and the ads go on far too long, but overall great. It's almost infomercial territory at times, but easy to skip.
