Practically half the main cast are gone now. Almost seems cursed.

Yeah the list of who has died is pretty long and it's not like they were that old in most cases. I mean Andreas Katsulas was 59, he was a life long smoker but that's still relatively a young age.
I will never forget seeing him and Peter Jurasik reading the scene at the Blackpool con in '97 JMS had written for them as a joke where for some reason I can't remember G'kar changes sex and falls in love with Londo. They were clearly having a lot of fun and the audience were in hysterics.

So the special effects will look worse than the 90s effects do today I imagine the space sfx will all look good, but the sets, costumes and number of extras isn't going to improve very much. I can see The CW being a decent enough fit for it. Not the best, but ok. All their shows do have a certain vibe, but they tend to be mostly fun enough if your standards aren't too high. They do have Buffy (kinda), Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls (kinda), etc.. to their name. But I don't really see the appeal of redoing the same 5 year arc again, but this time knowing what's going to happen.

Significant changes were made to the arc after O'Hare left, as well as later on with other actors leaving and the cancelled cancellation. Maybe we'll get the original arc?

I would have thought it would be better to have another crack at Crusade - 5 years to save the earth seems a pretty easy message to sell currently.
It is really sad how many have been lost, at relatively young ages, Jeff Conaways story particularly.

Crusade was pants. I remember being excited to discover there was a follow up to BB5 and rented the DVDs only to be massively disappointed. I mean, they did a Mulder and Scully alien parody FFS.

Yeah, retelling the same story but different seems like an odd choice. I'd prefer it if he did something else in the same universe. Leave it as it is

Doesn't seem like a good idea. I mean Babylon 5 wasn't perfect, but how high are the chances that it would end up even remotely as fun, consistent and believable?!?

Those are my thoughts but I don't want to be a grump about it but it was perfect

I just wish there was somewhere to watch the remastered versions without buying them... I'd be fine with buying them on dvd or whatever, but I'm not a big fan of 'buying' things on streaming services.

Maybe getting a reboot by that supernatural romance channel will give one of the big streaming services the motivation to make the original available for free

I've got the 5 seasons in individual box sets. They're the thing that stops me getting rid of my DVD players.

I turned on my Amazon Fire Stick today and there was something called imdbTV which had a bunch of old tv shows and movies streaming for free with ads. They seem to have the Babylon 5 remaster!
I have no idea what imdbTV is, or how obnoxious the ads might be. I watched the first 10 mins of an episode or two and didn't run into any ads yet.
It's in 4:3, so you lose the widescreen, but *holy carp!* the cgi shots look so much better! They actually mostly look pretty good. (Weirdly, the opening credits is in black-barred widescreen within the 4:3 frame, so it ends up tiny. But who cares about the credits)

So the space battles don’t look like PS1 cut scenes anymore?

I thought they looked pretty good tbh... though I'm not an owner of an enormous tv.
Of course, some stuff like the cgi humans don't look so hot, but most of the spaceship stuff looked waaay better. PS2 cutscenes at the very least.

Turns out you can also watch stuff from imdb.tv through the prime video app on xbox. Watching The Gathering as I type.

I had 4 45 second ads over the 90 minute runtime.

^ That doesn't sound too bad. I keep getting interrupted, so I don't think I've even encountered an ad yet. I was trying to watch it yesterday, but my kids kept interrupting me to ask 'is this star wars?' and 'is this the one with spock in it?' and mostly 'is he a good guy or a bad guy?' Interestingly, with B5, the answer to the last question was often 'sometimes'. Which is a mark of how cool the show was... but also doesn't get the kids to shut up so you can watch it.

Watched the first ep on Prime as they have it all on that too. Saw maybe 3 ads about a 1 min each.
Hard getting used to 4:3 after all these years of 16:9 but still great:D

Wow if I search B5 on prime app then only option is to buy it.
If I first search IMDB TV, then it opens up something like a sub-app, cos when I search B5 at this point then I have the option to watch with ads!!!!
Fucking brilliant.

Yep, I've just watched a few eps and it looks pretty good, best it's ever looked. Shame after all their forward thinking at the time shooting it Super 35 so it would be future-proofed for widescreen, we're back at 4:3 because of the FX.
It really makes me feel old thinking a) I haven't watched this since broadcast really but I do remember a lot of it and b) counting off how many cast members are dead now.
