On the subject of old men with camera gear, I just pulled the trigger on a used Canon 50mm 1.2L to use on my old 5D
I've always wanted one, especially after my 50mm 1.4 broke for the 2nd time (loved that lens but enough is enough). Looking forward to using it, provided it works ok and I don't have autofocus issues given the age of my 5D.

Ooh nifty. I think that costs the same as all my gear put together!

provided it works ok and I don't have autofocus issues given the age of my 5D. I spoke too soon! The autofocus is off. It focuses about 4cm behind the point of aim at a distance of 2 metres. It seems this can happen, and is what I was specifically worried about. Sooooo... useless for now. However it's a super nice lens so I'll look into getting it all calibrated and if that is prohibitively expensive then I'll probably buy a bashed up old cheap 5D mk2 and roll with that.
I got the lens for £600 which I thought was fair considering the condition and the RRP. Obviously it's a bummer but I did have my suspicions this would happen. Oh well! An excuse to get a different camera 👍

getting the exact link of the photo via right click / properties / inspect / etc (dependent on browser) and then wrapping it round img tags here should do the trick
[img alt="" style="max-width:100%;" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48004375052_aaee8c29fb_h.jpg"] and you get:
and yes, everyone needs to be spamming with pretty pictures much more

Let the spamming commence:

One from yesterday. I bought an adaptor to use the 1973 50mm 1.4 from my Olympus OM1 on my Canon 5D, this is one of the pictures. It's far from perfect and the manual focus is pretty tricky without the horizontal split focusing screen BUT I love that lens and it's nice to be using it again. The bokeh it produces is just lovely

I can’t figure out the saddle shape. Is the hair a difference texture or is it pigmentation?

Shameless copy and paste: A few years ago I had an amazing experience where I stumbled upon an area of wasteland full of fox holes carved into a stretch of sloped woodland. By sheer luck and good fortune I encountered a group of fox cubs playing in the afternoon sun. They allowed me to get really close and either didn't notice my presence or didn't seem to mind it. I only had my phone with me but made sure I took loads of video footage of them darting in and out of their hole and chasing each other around. It left me feeling privileged to have seen it and was easily the best wildlife encounter I've ever had. Then, disaster struck (and a lesson learnt) - when upgrading phones and after backing everything up to my PC, I formatted the phone memory card, convinced everything had been transferred to the computer. But... it hadn't. 😭 The videos were missing and the phone was now wiped. Gutted was an understatement. Each April/May since I've returned to the same spot in hopes of seeing more fox cubs, but so far I've had no luck. A few weeks ago, however, I visited the area again with a sense of optimism. Suddenly I heard a series of terrifying screeches and squeals in the distance, so I headed slowly - covered head to toe in camouflage - in that direction. The sounds got louder and after my eyes adjusted to the scene I could see glimpses of movement up ahead, but I still wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I knew that foxes sometimes sound like babies crying when they fight, but these were closer to the kinds of noises a pig would make when scared. But sure enough, after a little while I noticed three fox cubs darting in and out of their den, chasing each other and rolling around in the dirt. The light was terrible and shrubbery was very much in the way, so I didn’t get any of those actions shots. I was sitting a fair distance away on this occasion, too, so the photos are cropped to all heck, but I was very pleased to get them anyway. The first two photos of the adult fox were taken about two weeks prior to those of the fox cubs, in a slightly different area, but I suspect they are they same family.

Awesome, love that last shot of him looking right at you. Thank you! I thought I'd been rumbled then but it was actually the sound of a noisy squirrel in the tree behind me that caught his attention, so I remained undetected!

Those fox pics are excellent.
I just got back from Iceland (the country), pretty amazing place but there are like 10 million better landscape photographers so I didn't really feel inclined to try to match their skills. But I did take some other random photos that I like. Let me wrangle this html nonsense and I'll post some.

Another one. I processed the shit out of this, probably too much, but I like how it turned out.

Lovely and sharp. The ratio works well for those.
I'm tempted to lay some money down for Pixelmator Pro or Photomator today. Can't quite work out which one I want to get. I've got their photo app on iOS and it's really good, but I want a copy for my new MBP.
P.S. Someone explain to me how to embed these in here?

If you're adding them in the desktop view of the forum, you can use the reply button (rather than the quick reply) and use the 'Insert Image' button which will let you add a URL to the image there. You end up with this and it should embed it in the post.

I'm not much of a photographer but I drag my old cheapo DSLR with me sometimes when I go hiking or exploring the city. For some reason I find it a lot more fun to take pictures in terrible weather.
Football fields and ice rink right next to where I live, on a foggy winter afternoon.
Exploring the industrial harbour area in Gothenburg on a rainy evening. The camera was constantly soaked and everything came out delightfully grungy.
Walking back to the mainland the grey rainclouds just suddenly cleared as I was on the middle of a bridge. 30 seconds later it was a nice clear evening. This is looking towards the outer harbour and the sea.

Murky weather and fog = pure atmosphere! That's why it's great for photography often.

Some great pics here! Looking for advice on processing a whole load of old photos. My Dad passed away this week, so we have a house to sort through. As well as all his photos and slides from the 60s-00s (seriously, what was the point of those?!), my maternal grandfather was a very keen photographer, there are folders of his stuff. pre-WW2, lots of my Mum when she was young in the 40s-50s. I think these were just cleared from my grandparents house 26 years ago. Feeling very mortal and thinking of our kids clearing out our house in 25 years...
Anyway, would like to digitise all the old prints and slides, what's the best way to do that, and also organise, any recommendation for archive/sharing software?
