The Green Knight 5/10 Well, that was a let down, I think I overhyped myself on this one. Where did you watch this? I've not heard many good things about it but find myself really wanting to see it regardless. I enjoyed the battle at the docks. Make two hours of that and I'd have been happy :-)

Also probably worth highlighting that Reloaded actually reviewed pretty well with both critics and audiences. Revolutions less so, but letās not bandy around terms like āobjectively badā. Itās not like theyāre in the list of Worst Films Ever Made or anything, theyāre just disappointing and probably a little unnecessary sequels.

I concur with this. At the time it came out everyone thought Reloaded was the muttās nuts. I think people got too carried away by the hype and were able to look past the guffy bits, but as the hype faded and time gave the CG bits a kicking, people turned on it.
It was never bad. Just very of itās time and I think you can argue it forgot what made the first Matrix so good.
Revolutions was always a bit shit though. Itās biggest crime is how forgettable it is. I remember a crap mech bit and a fight in the rain and thatās about it.

I remember me and my housemate being underwhelm by both at the time but 18 years later free from outside influences I enjoyed them both.
They do strip away a lot of the simplicity that the original had by populating the Matrix and real world with dozens of new characters and big lore dumps but the only scene that I thought I could have completely done without was the Zion dance. Theyāre surprisingly tightly put together considering how much baggage they bring.
That said I did watch all three Hobbit films recently and they really do get their world building completely wrong and are each an hour longer than these films. So maybe Iām drawing a subconscious parallel.

Maybe I should watch the 2nd one again. I watched it whilst killing time on my own, waiting for a flight back from the US. I thought it was absolutely dreadful.

I honestly can't recall the chateau fight. maybe I should rewatch it.
Not the entire film. Fuck that. just that sequence.

Reloaded isnāt really a movie that makes a lot of sense on its own, its very much an episode in a larger story, so maybe a decade of MCU longform storytelling helps smooth the ride for it

I, Tonya - 8/10
An absolutely nuts story told fantastically well. The end credits really hit home how well the mother and Shawn played their parts.
Bonus point for some GLOL moments along the way (the knee incident had me in stitches)

The problem is there is no topping The Matrix but they tried to in all the wrong ways. The digital effects couldnāt top the practical ones, the overblown story couldnāt top the lean, frantic first one. and so on.
But we expected them to, which is why they were a bit disappointing. Like I said in the other thread, though, I think time has been kinder to them than most. I will never be on board with āthe Star Wars prequels are great, actuallyā revisionism but the matrix trilogy deserves a rethink.

I am a sucker for an action film where people get fucked up in violent ways, and this one isn't too bad. After the laughable car chase(it's so bad) it picks up and delivers on the fucking up. Very predictable and some choreography that Peeson wouldn't struggle with, but it's a decent watch.
If they ever want to cast Ellen Ripley as a younger version again, they just need to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead in this. Looks just like her after her haircut.
6.5/10
Would have been a 7 without that car chase.

Rewatching RED for the umpteenth time. It's silly and full of action. I am totally on board with retired bad asses. 7/10. (are posted images annoying? If yes, I'll stop posting them. I can't resize them, unfortunately.

Just watched 'Kate' (the Netflix John Wick). Pretty good. Sharp and visually agreeable: not just because of my desire for Winstead. Some of violence was absurd but not in a bad way.
Well made gash.
Nothing to do with my desire for Winstead's.

Next watch Gigi with them. And explain why no one sings āThank Heavens for Little Girlsā anymore. While weāre at it - get Grease in there and teach them that dressing like a slut will both get the guy and make your car fly for some reason.

Das Boot (the new one, and yes it counts, miniseries, film, whatever). Iām not a fan.
Theyāve lost all of the claustrophobia by bringing in a B-plot about the french resistance where everyone is straight out of āAllo āAllo, all seemingly filmed in the same collonaded street in La Rochelle. So never mind the terror and depth charges and isolation amd inhumanising conditions, weāll cut away for 10 minutes to a quiet chat over tea.
Stick to the original, all the best scenes from the new one are lifted directly from it anyway.

Technically impressive with terrific performances from the leads but it just didn't grab me, and I'm not sure why. There have been more affecting war films in my opinion and I'm not sure why this was lacking. There was an emptiness here and it just kind of washed over me.

Crap CGI almost always has me hovering over the off button immediately Oh and its a VERY stabby film, brutally so. Yeah thumbs up on the young Ripley, get it done someone.

I feel it peaked after the first stabby fight, it never topped that scene.

I finally got around to watching Black Widow last night.
It was... ok/100 (60?).
Lots of Avengers jokes and references which wore pretty thin after the first 15 minutes. Entertaining enough. Ray Winstone's hilarious cod Russian accent notwithstanding.

The Night Eats the World (Amazon Prime) Guy wakes up to find Paris is infested with the undead and he's trapped alone inside an apartment building. I quite enjoyed this; very much focuses on the slowly degrading mental health of the protagonist, rather than the zombies. Not a film I'd watch more than once, but glad I gave it a go. 7/10 Blood Red Sky (Netflix) A plane hijacking goes a bit wrong when it turns out there's a vampire on board. Not that bad for a 'Netflix original', ropey CG external plane shots aside. Quite fun, if a bit cheesy in places. My biggest complaint is with Netflix's subtitles, as the film is in German and English, but there's no option to just subtitle the German dialogue (that I've found), so my eyes are always drawn to the subs even when the dialogue is in English. 7/10

But there are lots more moments when it dissolves into East London "BET NOW, YOU SLAAAAAG!" twang, particularly at the end of the sentences in his speeches.

Sheās been good in everything Iāve seen her in, she can handle comedy and drama equally well, and she was in Scott Pilgrim with Superman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Anna Kendrick and Michael Cera. The Thing remake was badly received but so badly she got blacklisted?
