I didn't even get to the end of Far from Home. It was really dull. Shame because the first one is great. Its worth a full watch including the end credits scene, just to prep you for the next one. Also the 2nd half is better than the first half

Come on, the Hershey's Cookies and cream bar is lovely! Though their regular chocolate does taste somewhat of soil. Wrong Turn (the new one) - 7/10 Much better than it has any right to be, I think linking it to a crap franchise was the wrong move as its a good film in its own right and not just for the genre. Go in with an open mind and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Some decent actors in it too I like most of the Wrong Turn series, for what it is. The first couple were a bit boring though.

I agree, but if this new one was released as its own film and not linked to a low budget franchise it may better thought of. Its a higher grade film with better actors and not really anything like the other ones

Is it Wrong Turn that has Henry Rollins as the baddie in one of the sequels?

The River Runner (netflix)
Pretty typical adventure sports film really but the kind where there is tragedy and personal struggle not just being rad at an extreme thing (think Dawn Wall more than Free Solo). Its a cool film, the kayaking is wild, the main guy goes on a real emotional journey, the adventure itself is epic.
8.5/10
Into The Grand Canyon (disney+ / nat geo)
Two guys decide to walk the length of the Grand Canyon while the film dips in and out of issues regarding native peoples and environmentalism along the way. Unfortunately the way it fits together you never really get a sense of the scale of the challenge. Its beautifully shot but each element probably deserves its own film in order to give it its due.
6.5/10
Dredd (netflix)
Second time in week, still fantastic. There can’t be many movies structured this close to how a video game plays, can there?
I’d bloody love a good Dredd game but Rebellion are too busy with endless editions of Sniper Elite

I'll be the first to tell you simple, if you like Dredd you will love The Raid.
Less law more choppy choppy.

I watched Dredd because of this thread and really enjoyed it - the setting reminded me of Robocop, which is one of my favourite films. Is the other one any good?
Bit OT but I've never been into comics, is there an easy to read the Judge Dredd stuff, or any other films/books like it (or Robocop)?

Read Frank Miller's Robocop and then cry a little bit.

Legend has it Robocop was inspired by Judge Dredd in the first place so its a fair comparison.
I like the Stallone film its not very faithful but for a big sci-fi action film / superhero movie its a lot of fun. And its setting is spectacular.
Plus Mean Machine Angel is one of my all time favourite movie make-up jobs.

Chris Cunningham did Mean Machine's make-up in the Stallone Dredd.
I like the first ten mins or so of that (when I saw it in the cinema I was properly stoked) and then it all goes to shit.
I went and watched it again at the cinema to make sure it was actually that shit, and indeed yes it was.
I'll be the judge of that.

They did a pretty good job with Hammerstein in the Stallone Dredd.

The Hand (1960)
The police investigate the amputation of a homeless mans hand.
Its billed as a horror but detective drama/revenge thriller might be more accurate. Either way it's surprisingly poor. The opening more or less gives away who it might be and it all just feels cobbled together. At only 60 minutes it is both rushed and still manages to feel like it drags on.
2/10

The production design in Stallone's Dredd was actually amazing. Mean Machine, the ABC Warrior (not really Dredd but I'll allow it's appearance as it was so cool), the vehicles and city in general.
It looked the part (dumb decision to only have one eagle shoulder pad and some iffy back projection effects aside).
Whilst I much prefer the Urban Dredd film, I do wish it looked a bit not futuristic and not just like a big SA slum.

I AM THE LERRRW! /facechew
Yeah, boot off Rob Schneider and leave the mask on, there's a very good Dredd movie hidden in there. Agree that if the Urban version had the same outside aesthetic and vertical scale as the first movie, it would basically be perfect.

Stallone’s film does seem to take place much farther in the future than Urban’s. But then Dredd is an Alex Garland film so it fits the MO of a lot of his sci-fi to be a recognisable world just over the horizon from the present.

The Matrix
Still holds up. Special effects still work, visual design solid and iconic, action still pretty spectacular. Suffers slightly by all its key scenes being parodied into the ground but even the plot still works without feeling too tired.
Its a lot more of a straightforward action film than I remembered.
9/10
The Matrix Reloaded
Again the action looks great, for both films there is a bigger focus on practical effects than you get these days which helps.
Falls over slightly by introducing a million new characters and removing all the lean streamlining the original plot had. I know the reputation is it gets bogged down in undergraduate philosophy but I think the bigger issue is how much it tries to expand its world and lore. Zion ends up being like a horny Star Wars Prequel and the Matrix is suddenly filled with more characters than a Bioware RPG. It completely loses focus.
Still though, that highway sequence.
7.5/10

They also have the rights to the Dredd movies back, so a second Dredd film is a possibility.

Judge Dredd
Echo the sentiment of others in the thread. Looks great but it's just a cheesy 90s action film underneath
What is the point of Rob Schneider? He's so annoying

Haven’t Rebellion built a studio using tech like the Mandalorian soundstage for their tv projects?

Candyman
Political trash shoehorned in at every possible moment. A bit tiresome. Besides that, not that good anyway. Every kill was just a quick slice, or off screen pretty much. Didn't feel visceral like the original.
Yawn/10

Absolutely bonkers 80s road movie starring Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith. Amazing soundtrack, looks great, funny, weird, under two hours.

Kate - 7/10
That was surprisingly decent. One of the best female led action films I've seen in a long time. Kind of feels like it could've been competition for John Wick if it wasn't for the one film premise.

Has anyone watched Gunpowder Milkshake yet? It’s constantly promoted on SKY but looks like an extraordinarily cliched movie
I’m sure there’s a lot of reviews that state “a female John Wick” without even reading them judging by the adverts
