Barely played anything actually released this year. What I have played has mostly not been GOTY material - F1 2021 (good but not revolutionary), New World (fun but flawed) and Bravely Default II (meh).
I have Returnal ready to play at some point when I have the time.

My top 3 games released this year would be Hitman 3, Monster Hunter Rise and Metroid Dread. If I had to pick, I would say MH Rise by a hair. Granted there's other games release this year I might out in my top 3 but it was only PS5 versions of games that came out before like Yakuza 7 or Disco Elysium

Hitman 3 and Valheim so far. Hardly played anything since about May though.

Since it's the only release of this year I've played, Minster Hunter Rise
(Assuming Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut doesn't count)

Oooh, yeah, put me down for GoT DC as well, that was excellent, even if I haven't gone back to finish it yet.

Since it's the only release of this year I've played, Minster Hunter Rise (Assuming Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut doesn't count) I think it's okay to include remasters and releases, unless some of you would rather make that a separate "award". If so I'd happily throw a nomination into a thread if someone wants to make it.

Easily Returnal, it's one of the best games I've ever played let alone GoTY.

Circuit Superstars and Guardians of the Galaxy are only games I played that came out this year that I can think of, I'll have to see what I did actually play
Ahh Chivalry 2 is my GOTY unless Halo or Forza top it personally.

Don't think I've played any 2021 games. Not sure I've played any 2020 games either.

Resident Evil Village and Hitman 3 for me I think. Not played that many games that were actually released this year though.

Hades I suppose, and that doesn't count. I feel like I've played a lot of good games but I can't really remember them.
Psychonauts is decidedly average so not convinced by the votes for that.
Metroid sucked me in entirely, but only for a week.

Since it's the only release of this year I've played, Minster Hunter Rise A game in which you stalk and kill large churches, criminally overshadowed by its fantasy animal-based sibling title.

As usual I'm behind so don't think I have played anything from this year No reason we can't have a 'Best game you played in 2021' thread. Us PC gamers and our enormous backlogs like that sort of thing.

Hades is my GOTY, which I'm including in this year because that's when it came to Game Pass Seconded. Bought it soon after I got hooked on it through Game Pass. Funny thing is I'd bought it earlier on Steam but refunded it as I wasn't sure my old-man reflexes were up to the challenge.

According to my Xbox, I have played this for a total of 6 days 2 hours and 10 minutes… Which is insane.

What’s your hot mode? I spent almost all of this year in Diamond Dynasty. Too many changes in Road to the Show that made it kind of lame. March to October is fun for a quick(ish) blast.

Mainly all RTTS. I don’t really have any prior feelings to compare it to, so have really enjoyed it. It’s a perfect mode to just pick up and play through a few games for half an hour so.

I’ve only played Resident Evil Village and Demon’s Souls remake from this year. Both awesome
Not really a “game” as such I suppose but that Astro’s Playroom is terrific too, such a great trip for PlayStation fans

For me it hasn't been a highly memorable year for new games. I've been playing older games for the best part of it. Probably half if my gaming time has been either Animal Crossing or Splatoon 2. I just can't get enough of those two for some reason. I also got back into Rocket League solidly, for a month...
I'm still playing Metroid Dread and the Sega Picross game. Both are excellent. Did A Short Hike come out this year? Warioware was ok... 3D World is excellent, but a port. Super Animal Royale is everything I want from a Battle Royale, which is to be simple.
I got a Series X this year, but mostly played older stuff or indie games on it. Carto was great. Art of Rally was solid. Everything else, like Doom, Sea of Thieves, Ori and Hollow Knight are old. I didn't play Resi Village, although I own it.
Odd year though. Plenty of Metroidvanias though, so I'm very happy.

For me this year has been dominated by FFXIV Online and the Yakuza series. I expect next year will be no different, though I'll definitely find time for Elden Ring.

I recently got to nearly 400.000 points in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved so I'd like to nominate that.
