So how many of you have achieved vegan enlightenment?
I haven't, but I've slowly taken steps over the years to eat more responsibly. Eating less meat, cutting out diary, buying seasonal fruit & veg etc... but I'm struggling to give up meat completely.
Milk was easy though, there are so many milk alternatives these days, I've just seen Waitrose are selling potato milk now lol

Milk's started to make my guts churn so I'd be quite happy to give that up. Been having more oat milk recently which helps.
We have as a family actually started to eat more plant based shit as well and meat alternatives but we've not gone much further yet tbh. The thought very much appeals, which is odd, as I would have laughed / spat in your face a few years ago if you'd suggested it.

I stopped eating meat a few years ago without really meaning to. After a year or so, the thought of eating it again was too gross. I was never a big meat person in the first place though. Just seems weird eating chucks of animal

It's actually pretty easy to cut out meat and animal products if you want to. And tasty as well. The real issue is that most western countries actively subsidise meat and animal products.
It seems crazy to me that if you want a consume a diet that has a lower carbon footprint you are effectively taxed to do so. Not so crazy when you consider which way farmers vote, but yeh, in principle.

I gave up dairy because it messes with my skin, but a life without cheese was no life at all. Still don't consume milk/yoghurt, but I'm back to eating cheese like I'm French.

Maybe I'll just start with a meat free day during the week.

I'm a meat eater, despite thinking there are plenty of good reasons not to be.
I'm just a bit of a twat tbh.
That said, I have tried to cut down on meat and dairy. I would be okay going vegetarian, vegan even.
I just prefer not to. Even though I think there are lots of good points. Like I said, I'm a twat.

Humans aren't suppose to eat a lot of meat anyway, which is why we only have 2 teeth for it

Pretty much what drhickman1983 said... I grew up as a veggie until my mum started cooking meat dishes out of convenience, and have tried going pesci once for quite a few months, but ended up caving in and getting a nice medium rare steak... I'd do it again, but I'm just a bit of a twat...

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but had Dinner at a vegan restaurant in the city last weekend. The food was fantastic. Not "fantastic for vegan" but straight up delicious. Recommended if you're looking for a place to eat. www.mildreds.co.uk/soho/

My son became vegetarian a few months ago, and since then I've been having his version of the family meal every so often, rather than the meat one I cook for the rest of the family. Vegetarian is easy, vegan I'd find a lot harder, mainly because vegan cheese just isn't the same. Tell you what though- I had one of these recently: www.coop.co.uk/products/gro-the-incredible-burger-210g...best burger I've had in ages. Not that it's identical to a meat burger (the taste is close but the texture isn't), but it was really tasty all the same. (Admittedly I had mine with bacon which may have helped)

I've cut down on meat a lot over time. My brain just can't handle the hypocrisy of the fact that I love animals and nature, yet I eat them. Plus I have a choice, which makes me even more of a wanker.
I still eat some, but no where near as much as before, and I'd prefer to go to a local butcher instead of JBS mass produced farmed shite. (Which is another topic that makes my stomach churn but I digress)
I've found that my cooking skills have improved by trying different things and I've surprised myself a lot in that regard.
I went meat free for a month a few months ago and it wasn't difficult at all. In fact, it was easy and helped with the cooking as per above.
Just need to knock it on the head for good soon. Though not eating cheese will be much harder than not eating meat.

The girl is veggie but most places just have vegan things to cover both bases and the dad dustbin clears up so I’m getting a decent a decent feel of what’s good and what isn’t. I just ate at wagamamas and their new vegan menu is pretty boss. All really good stuff.
I’m actually In Bournemouth atm and yesterday we ate at a place called ‘Mighty Wieners’ which is a vegan take on an American style menu and, honestly, the food there was absolutely amazing. Would 100% recommend if you’re ever down there.

I hate cooking so I do eat a few ready meals, and usually pick veggie ones as I can pretend they're healthier. Tesco's Wild kitchen stuff seems okay. I mean it's full of salt, but that's why it's okay.
This isn't Bacon is pretty good too. And I do like Linda McCartney sausages.
Mainly it's chicken I find hard to replace. In my zero effort cooking approach I'll just have a chicken breast or a few thighs and a load of fresh spinach. Not found anything veggie that really works the same.
I'd struggle to give up halloumi if i went vegan.

Can't see myself ever dropping meat. I like animals and shit but I don't really see that as a contradiction, it's not either or. If I could click my fingers and reduce all the poor treatment of livestock animals to zero I would, but I'd still be buying and eating them. I've tried most of the available meat substitutes here and none of them come close in flavour. Some are ok, and I don't mind them now and again.

I wish I could attempt and eat vegetarian but I just really enjoy eating meat and fish. I enjoy it for pretty much every meal and snacks.
I also love milk and some cheeses so the vegan route is also out.
My little brother is a vegan and he came around for a take away one evening. The choice for takeaways, even in a city like Bristol, was so few are far between he ended up getting a bloody pizza. It's a honourable thing to do but totally not worth the restrictive nature of it.

Omnivore, but lactose intolerant (but lactase tablets get around this) and married to a pescatarian (veggie that cheats) so I don't eat all that much meat.
Also shouldn't touch caffeine or chocolate or cheese due to migraines

In my experience caffiene only gives you migraines if you don't get enough of it.

South London has loads of vegan takeaways, including those that barely advertise the fact. A local brunch place actually doesn't say it anywhere, except the website. So you can order a blt or sausage roll, and vegan versions will turn up.
I definitely have reduced my meat intake, health, environment and animal welfare related. The vegan versions and options have massively improved in past couple years.

I'm like a surrogate veggie as my GF is a 100%-certified herbivore, so usually cook veggie meals at home and then have the occasional guilty meaty dish out and about, or takeaway.

Back when we used to have friends we went round someones house for dinner and they served up some bolognese or something. After we'd finished they had this massive shit eating grin on their face and said "I bet you didn't realise that wasn't meat" or something, as if they'd somehow got one over on us. It took the wind out of their sails a bit when I told them that not only could we tell, it tasted like crap but we were being polite in not mentioning it.

Not sure if it's still going, but Vanilla Black was a really good posho veggie/vegan place we went for a birthday.
