The Beyond mince is absolutely excellent. Best veggie tacos I've ever made.

This is interesting, KFC did a collab with a YouTuber called 'Niko' to show how amazing their farms are and how much they love the chickens... some people visited the exact same farm a short while later and (unsurprisingly) it wasn't quite as KFC painted it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6A1kWnEfqk

Ugh. Cost of living isn't going to help this either.

Anyone else on the fence about giving up meat like me lately? I'm already probably at a 50/50 split for veggie/meat meals and have been considering going a bit closer to 80/20 or maybe even cold turkey it and go all the way veggie, or possibly remain pesci.
With the "news" about nitrites in processed meats I've already decided to just cut those out entirely after burying my head in the sand for years and ignoring the risks. Then there's cost of living, animal welfare, quality of meat thanks to Brexit, microplastics etc...

Definitely not looking to go full veg but trying to have red meat as just an occasional treat, only buy organic free range chicken etc. With you on the nitrates, thankfully Parma and San Daniele Ham don't use them.

I have thought about it for a split second before, and then I looked at my bbq.
I couldn't do it.

I've already had cancer and it was random with no discernible reason why it happened especially for my ethnicity so I'm like /shrug now about the risks of nitrites and what not. I don't eat red meat every day, I predominantly eat chicken more than anything but I do like to add a lot of veg to my cooking, but I can't see myself ever going meat free.

Haha, yep. I made a nice vegan lunch the other day, then topped it with some delicious sliced smoked brisket.
Don't think I could give up steaks in fairness but will probably drop those to rare (well, medium rare really) treats instead of a weekly thing.

I couldn't do it, then again I mostly only have meat with 1 meal a day but no way would I make that decision. Perhaps in the future intake may drastically reduce as you get more self sustainable but I would still find a way to fill my freezer.

I like the idea of cutting down but I'm lazy and changing my diet is daunting.
I am getting fat though so really should cut down on bacon sandwiches.

We cut down on red meat and fatty foods after my heart attack, it's crept back up over the last couple of years though so now my only real concession is that I no longer have bacon. It's annoying, because I'm at the market when Mrs Hermit buys a 2kg freezer pack and yet I never see a single rasher. I miss bacon.

I really believe that in the future people will look back at our meat consumption and it will be viewed in much the same way we view bear baiting or bull fighting.
Meat is too delicious for that belief to stop me eating it though. I should probably try some more alternatives and I did quite enjoy a planet based chicken arrabiata wrap from Cafe Nero not that long ago. Just can't see the red meat replacements ever being able to replace the real thing.

In terms of red meat, as long as you only want burgers, sausages, mince or kebab meat(!), Beyond, Impossible and Oomph! absolutely tick all those boxes.

Went pescatarian a few months ago and it's fine. I liked the unhealthy processed meats the most: ham, sausages etc, so I thought I'd knock it on the head. It's easy to make decent veggie meals, and there's better and better veggie burgers and whatnot if you're feeling lazy.
I'll try to cut out almost all fish soon too, but that's going to be much, much harder.

I remember laughing out loud at a vegan on Radio 4 once, saying that some of them won't use public transport due to the high number of insect deaths the vehicles cause. Anyway sometime later, I am a bus driver and can confirm that bees regularly bumble into my path and are not agile enough to get outta the way 😧 All I can do is pray that there's no real harm done and that they live to fuck flowers another day.

This miracle meat doc currently on Channel 4 is a bit odd tone wise. Amazing technology growing the protein, and a genuine Brexit benefit if the UK can get ahead in this industry, however the fact it seems to be currently supported by older people selling their tissue cause they can't afford their bills is properly grim.

I like the idea of cutting out meat for health/ethical reasons but having spend around 40 years cooking and only really thinking of meat based meals it’s unlikely to happen any time soon. I have the occasional vegan meal but more than one a week rarely happens.
