Best veggie food is veggie kebab. All the usual kebab goodness, but instead of some crappy meat substitute, they stick falafel in there. And it's just as cheap as regular ones.
If veggie food were cheaper, I'd go for it more often. Surely, if governments cared that much about emissions as they always say, they would subsidize the market?

Plus a pile of rando chemicals probably. I would not touch all that pea, lentil, soy fake shit. But do enjoy the odd veggie night making some fancy arancini balls for starter and a butternut squash curry. So shaping mushrooms into patties is wrong but shaping rice into balls is okay Does the rice have all this gear in it though?

I tried a Seitan Southern Fried Burger once. It was like biting into playdoh. Seitan is the devil's meat substitute.

Just went for lunch at IKEA and they had some of their own plant-based meatballs. Not the usual veggie balls, these actually looked like meatballs. Tasted good too. They say it's supposed to taste like chicken, can't say they quite managed on that regard, but they were good nonetheless. Much better than that Impossible Burger for sure.
They also replaced all the salmon wraps with veggie ones. Again, they were good, although I guess the very liberal use of mustard and pickles made it hard to tell the difference.

That's pretty restrained for an American product

I am intrigued just how cheap most meat is if people think Quorn, Dalepak and Linda McCartney stuff is too expensive. They're literally like a quidish in most supermarkets for their burgers, mince and sausages.

Unless your diet consists purely of 89p spam roundies from Farmfoods.
Also: Farmfoods sell loads of veggie stuff cheap.

Dunno how it works there, but here in Italy, decent veggie food (aka not soy-based) is usually somewhere between 15 and 18 euro per kilo, while sausages and burgers made from pork or especially chicken are always less than 10 euro. Even beef burgers cost less. You'd have to pick some high-quality ground beef to get anywhere near that kind of prices.

I’m actually In Bournemouth atm and yesterday we ate at a place called ‘Mighty Wieners’ which is a vegan take on an American style menu and, honestly, the food there was absolutely amazing. Would 100% recommend if you’re ever down there. Gutted to read this, it was closed when we went to Bournemouth I love that despite in the poll there only being 2 vegans here that so many people are being super open minded about it and giving things a try!

We've definitely cut down on meat but still quite a way to go. That being said, we do only order meat from a quality local butcher so it's mostly from within a few miles away, and beef had become a treat rather than the norm.
I'm in Brighton so as per previous comments, the veggie and Vegan options sometimes get a go when we eat out or takeaway.

I've never sworn off meat completely, but I eat a lot less meat than I used to, often weeks without any. The only things I really miss are fish and deli meats. I could probably bin it off completely, but I would struggle to go vegan, I just love eggs and cheese so much. Having said that I could probably go mostly vegan and leave those as occasional treats.
I do get a wee bit annoyed with how vegan options seem to have supplanted veggie options at a lot of bars and restaurants. I want real cheese on my veggie burger!

We eat burgers once a month max, and 3 out of 4 times we replace the beef with Beyond burgers, which (with all the sauce and cheese and onions) tastes almost the same as real beef.
How do Moving Mountains burgers compare to Beyond Burger?

F A R M F O O D S Linda McCartney stuff is nearly always out for a quid a pack in Asda, for the burgers and sausages. I've had a catering pack of the Quorn quarterpounders (like 20 burgers) for a fiver in Farmfoods before. You just have to suffer the indignities of actually shopping in Farmfoods.

Damn, nearest FF is 30 miles away. Asda might be worth a trip though.

I tend to go for something populist for the Farmfoods massive, like Copland.

So the real challenge for me lately has been my wife is allergic to alliums (so no garlic and onion). Can't eat chili due to having baby taste buds. Oh and to try and stop her teeth moving forward in her sleep and hurting in the future, currently has braces for 18 months so no staining food like turmeric, paprika, tomatoes. ..
Cooking for both of us has been a challenge!

For those wanting to try some non meat alternatives that are already prepped these are some of the ones we buy again. -Beyond Burgers (pricey but as an occasional treat I love them) -This isn't bacon (it isn't, but it tastes good in it's own way) -Viviera plant Greek style kebab (I do genuinely still miss a good doner kebab but this stuff is tasty with all the trimmings in a pita. Also possible it doesn't contain less meat than some kebabs I once ate at 2am) -Zest Pesto (because Pesto isn't even really vegetarian I think. Costs a ton but lovely) -Chicago Town Takeaway Vegan Medium Stuffed Crust Sticky BBQ Jackfruit Pizza (probably the best frozen vegan pizza we've tried and now a go to for a friend who doesn't often eat anything but meat) -Like schnitzel (it's kind of like one) Oh to add to the list. Best easily available vegan cheese we've tried (and I appreciate this is a pretty shit category) Violife Epic Mature (it's not cheese but it tastes alright albeit mature in the loosest sense of the word).

We had Morrisons veggie hot dogs for lunch today. Indistinguishable from the real thing.
I’ve never had a vegan cheese that wasn’t totally rank but I’m not much of a cheese person anyway so cutting down doesn’t really mean missing out for me. And I do genuinely like a cheese-free pizza.

For those in Switzerland: the V-Love fish sticks from Migros are indistinguishable from real fish sticks. The frozen ones are even better than the refrigerated ones (both are called "Sea Style Sticks"). Had the niece and nephew over a few weeks ago and we didn't tell them; they couldn't believe it when we told them afterwards.
I don't see any reason to eat "real" fish sticks ever again.

I have tried many vegan cheeses and agree that almost all are pretty terrible. Best one I've found is applewood's smoky vegan cheese. Still not quite right but leagues better than all the others I've tried.

Some chorizo shroomdogs have appeared in my fridge. I like paprika and mushrooms so quite excited. You may well love them but I'd prepare for disappointment. I've sampled a lot of the veggie sausages and the more they try to replicate meat flavours the less successful they are. To date the best are the bog standard Richmond meat free ones. Meat free hot dogs on the other hand tend to be indistinguishable from the meat versions, which probably says more about the them than the veggie versions. I'm going to try the beyond mince next week, either a lasagne or a chilli where it's more about texture than taste.
