It really is one of the best games ever. I'm on my 3rd or 4th playthrough and its still just as good from the start as it was the first time round. @aunt Alison have you done all of the labyrinths? Doesn't ring a bell, so don't think so. I've made my way roughly from the start to Zora's Domain, Death Mountain and now I'm at Rito Village (did take a slight diversion to explore the bottom right area of the map). Think I'm going to do all the Divine Beasts, then try and find the Master Sword, so I'm ready for Ganon. Then I'll just explore everywhere. I'm doing any shrines and towers I see along the way

Cool sounds like a good plan. I'd recommend the labyrinths though. They have a lot of loot and a shrine *and* some decent armour you can't get anywhere else. You know the akkala lab right up in the top right of the map? Where you can buy ancient stuff from the robot? Well, if you go there and go to the back of the building to the cliff edge and carefully look, you'll see a structure. Large one. Get some stamina upgrades and fly to it

I remember there was a clip on twitter, where someone had to send an electric current from one pedestal to another. And instead of using whatever tool they were meant to, they just unloaded all the swords in their inventory and connected the dots that way, and it worked. Who'd think of that? I ended up doing that! ...I was too dim to figure out the 'right' solution but whatever

Yeah, that sounds familiar. I think there's metal blocks you're suppose to use but I ran out so just used weapons for the last one or two. It's not dim, it's thinking outside the box. It's better than clever

There’s another in the highlands which I cheesed. IIRC you drop into a room full of guardians and have to navigate to the next updraft. That bit was OK, but the labyrinth itself I just found myself at the top of the walls and ran along them until I could spy a chest.
I need to pick this back up over Christmas and do the island where you lose your gear.

Rito Divine Beast down. Love the Rito - favourite Zelda race - and the Divine Beast has been my favourite design so far. The jumping ability is going to be so useful. It's a shame there's only four of them. I'm hoping they have some full scale dungeons/temples in the next one, seeing them dotted across the landscape/skyline would be amazing
Ended up doing a few side quests before heading off to the desert for the last one. The Rito kids are too cute to not help
How many shrines are there in total? I've done 50 so far but still feel like I'm pretty early on in terms of progress. I've got 18 hearts I think, nothing in stamina yet

I think there's about 109 shrines in total. Some are quite deviously hidden, but it just makes it all that sweeter when you suss it.
18 hearts is plenty for now. I'd definitely recommend some more stamina. It's more useful than hearts, plus it'll help you find some of those deviously hidden shrines.
Have you unlocked the jungle tower? I can't remember it's name, but every 24 hours game time, I go straight there, fly off the tower towards the two lizalfos guarding a couple of hearty durian fruits. Kill them, grab the fruits and then bomb the shit out of the trees nearby to get around 10-15 hearty durians. Cook 5 of these together to get full health +20 bonus hearts. Really helps out.

The hidden shines are some of the best ones. The one by Rito Village where you have to wait for the sun to shine through the pillar on to the platform and then shoot it with a fire arrow was great. And it's just there. There's no trigger for it, it's just tied to the day cycle
I think that's what impresses me the most about the open world, it just feels so natural. You can go anywhere, climb over everything, cross every body of water. The divine beasts are all just there in the world (you can see the Rito one right at the start of the game). Nothing feels separated off or isolated. It's seamless

Yup, totally agree. It's a beauty to behold all the time. Still finding new shit years and years later. Depending on my mood, I might just fire it up, sleep till night and then go comet hunting. Or the elusive deer. Or foraging. Or building tarry Town. Or just focus on shrines. Or wear the vah ruta swimming armour and go waterfall exploring. Or tracking the dragons down to get rare materials and soak up the music at the same time. It's beautiful.

As soon as we have a firm release date of BOTW 2 I'm getting a new playthrough started, the progression is incredible
I want to do Eventide all over again

The Rito Village music is lovely too. I climbed to the top of the pillar as soon as I got there to find nothing. The sun had just started to come up though, so I just stayed there and watched the sunrise. Such a gorgeous view

Had a productive couple of plays on this. All Divine Beasts are now up and operational (the lighting in the desert is amazing). I've also bagged the Master Sword, completed Tarrey Town and found all the Great Fairies. Just doing outstanding side quests now, then I'll get the last couple of towers and look for the memories I think
How is the Age of Calamity game, is it worth playing for the story? I assume I'm free of spoilers by this point. I very briefly played some of the first Hyrule Warriors and it didn't really stick

Age of Calamity not great then
How do you get on your shield to shield surf?
I've done the three labyrinths now. Ended up just running around them because I wanted to find all the items. Wasn't bad at all
Can totally wreck the guardians now with the Master Sword + Gerudo ability. Having those abilities tied to normal actions means I use them all the time. If they were things you had to use on their own, I'd probably be holding on to them forever. 10 minute cool down on the Master Sword is fine too. I've got so many really good weapons now it doesn't even matter

You can take a guardian down with even a pot lid if you time the parry just right, I never bother fighting guardians proper
As for shield surfing never do it much, but it's a timed combo of jumping and then pulling your shield out. There's a shield surfing challenge on Hebra

Wait, you can shield parry in this?
I love smashing guardians up! First I chop all their legs off though
The shield surfing challenge is what I needed it for. I only just then realised I don't know how to do it

Age of Calamity is pretty decent. Story is enjoyable but not essential. Problem is whether you enjoy playing the Warriors type games.

I played the first one (only briefly) and found it quite repetitive and got annoyed having to rush all over the place, but I wasn't really invested at the time. What's the music like in AoC, is it cheesy rock versions or proper Zelda music?

Sounds like you're well on track.
If you have the dlc there's also the master trials. 3 sets of trials you have to do in order with no saving allowed. Each successful trial awards powering up the master sword, to 40 damage for completing the first trial, to 60 damage for doing all 3. Worth a crack just doing the first one. Second one still needs to be done on my save. It's a bit of a bastard/out of my skillset
Then there's the sidequests too
I was on it last night. I've just got inside naboris so I'll sort that later, then it's hebra region for the last one.

You fuckers are making me want to replay this.... Don't even bother trying to resist. Some ad or another will have a sound effect that reminds you of the cooking skit, finding a korok, being spotted by a guardian etc etc, and that's an itch that can only be scratched one way

I can't imagine starting this again for years. I've put a lot of time in so far but there's still so much ground to cover. I'd miss my two and a bit stamina wheels and being able to fly jump

I had to replay it less than a year after my first runthrough and I was happy enough to go hunting shrines ASAP to get that sweet Stamina back

Do the bosses scale in difficulty depending on the order you do them in? The last one gave me quite a bit of trouble (Gerudo)

Can't remember if I said, but that shrine you were talking about where you used weapons to complete the circuit is the one outside the Gerudo town. I still had to do it that way for one of them
The shrine puzzle where you have to hold the snow ball in front of the disc when it glows (very cool) took me too long to work out. First I tried firing ice arrows/rod at it, then throwing a snowball, then making a really big one by rolling it down the hill into it and using the time stop thing to launch them into it. In the end you just have to hold it up in front of it. I may be thick, but I had fun working it out and making snowballs
