Lynel was a bit of a chump. Got knocked about a bit but he could barely scratch me with my enhanced defense x3. Was more like Terminator than Commando, if the terminator was a bit of a shit terminator. I just dodged his attacks. The giant boomerang I had was useful, lost it and a big sword doing it but picked up a triple blade boomerang not long after! I think they might be my favourite weapon type at the moment
I've become hyper vigilant to the koroks already, even if it's a type I haven't encountered before, like a sixth sense that something is afoot

Yeah that little brain tingle kicks in when one's nearby, or if you haven't found something in about 3 minutes of running about

Just completed the Ruta section - the whole Zora bit was great. Felt a good deal like a slice of old school Zelda tucked away on the map and completely seamless. Zora's Domain is huge and looks lovely. Love the design of Ruta and the fact it just exists there in the game without loading screens, transitions or anything - being able to walk in and out of it freely and see Hyrule sprawling off in every direction is really something. And there's music, really good music! I'm not completely sold on the voice acting so far and although the boss fight itself was fun, the design wasn't particularly interesting or memorable - swirly black and pink thing with a spear Really enjoying my time with it this time around. I can hold quite a lot of weapons now too Have to the say the frame rate is quite often noticably choppy, especially when there are any effects on the screen likelightning or fire or water splashes, stuff like that
edit: Ah and the Zora suit is kind of a really cool new ability!

I'm not completely sold on the voice acting so far I switched to Japanese audio the second Zelda opened her trap. Was like Noel Fielding doing a Kiera Knightley impression

Think I might do that. It's not like you have to read any subtitles during actual gameplay

After the first hour of Skyward Sword and the entirity of BoTW I don't think voice acting is a strong suit of the Zelda series.
The rest makes up for it though.

I actually cannot remember any voice acting in Skyward Sword (didn't think there was any) and I played it very recently, ha. How are you finding it now you've progressed a bit? Hopefully they keep Link voiceless in all future installment up to the point where I am dead and don't care anymore

I also meant to say the death scream of the boss was totally ripped from Bloodbourne! Either the Cleric Beast or maybe the one you hear climbing up the first ladder outside the clinic at the start

I completed this at launch (when ever that was). Picked it up again yesterday and got three hours in. It's really one of the best games ever made, I love nearly everything about it. Even though it's very spare and low Res etc it is still such a beautiful game on my tiny switch screen.

Since BotW, I've still to play another open world game that hasn't disappointed me enough to abandon it. At least not one of those big budget ones. A Short Hike was awesome. Horizon Zero Dawn, Valhalla and Red Dead 2 on the other hand...

For me RDR2 comes closest, just in the general sparseness of it, and relative lack of distractions from the exploration. Obviously they're very different kinds of game, but evoked similar feelings in me.

Red Dead 2 definitely deserves to be recognised for its overworld. Not only huge, but probably the most realistic feeling, too. Every tree and bush, even in the middle of nowhere, feels organically and beautifully placed. In terms of environment design, its leagues ahead of BotW.
I just didn't like pretty much everything else. Ha.

Going back to this tonight after playing through Metroid Dread. Got some side quests to do around Zora's Domain and then just choose a direction to wander off in
I don't like open world games in general because I'm not a fan of the staple design elements but like any genre, they can still be good if done well. This, RDR2, MGSV and Death Stranding are all ones I've enjoyed (MGSV had hardly anything to do in the open world so really just made the game feel more open and allowed you to approach things how you wanted)

Hey ho, that eurogamer article referencing a randomiser mod for this game, while failing to mention what that actually entails, is some top fucking tier games journalism, innit?

I might be off the mark here, but wouldn't promoting that kind of thing be legally dangerous for them? I assume that you wouldn't be able to use the mod without installing an emulator or somesuch, and I assume Nintendo would not like that.

Even if it wasn't legally awkward, they'd run the risk of losing out on previews and the like in the future. Doesn't seem worth it

Second Divine Beast down (Goron one). Those sections are so good. Got Divine Beast fever so made a run for the next one by way of legging it acress the front of Hyrule Castle dodgling Guardian lasers along the way. Fell down a ravine so did a bit of exploring down there while I found a way back up the other side. Got a whole row of hearts now and a load of elemental weapons
On a few occasions I've been able to complete a puzzle section in a way that was clearly not intended, which is really cool. One time a ball got stuck somewhere but I was able to go and pick it up (which I shouldn't have been able to) and just pop it into place. Another time I had to fire a ball around various points in a room but was able to knock a box down from somewhere, climb on top with the ball and just lob it over the wall straight to where it needed to be

Bit of both. I played it before but didn't finish it. I think I did all the Divine Beasts last time and got the Master Sword but didn't explore much, which I'm doing more of this time and enjoying it a lot more

ahh lovely. Really play with the physics. It's kind of amazing the attention to detail Nintendo put into it.

I remember there was a clip on twitter, where someone had to send an electric current from one pedestal to another. And instead of using whatever tool they were meant to, they just unloaded all the swords in their inventory and connected the dots that way, and it worked. Who'd think of that?

I pretty much just use the ice power to hop across any stretch of water. Swimming or carrying a Korok leaf about is for chumps

It really is one of the best games ever. I'm on my 3rd or 4th playthrough and its still just as good from the start as it was the first time round.
@aunt Alison have you done all of the labyrinths?
