The writing in this show. It bears repeating. It's so, so good.

The quality just doesn't relent. That one was incredible. It's in my top 2 dramas of all time but I'm not sure yet if it's first or second. The last one (sob) will of course weigh heavy on that but I have faith it will be fantastic. I do wonder whether it's a show I could rewatch though. I think repeat viewings are really rewarding. I'm on my 3rd run...in S2 now. I'd forgotten, for instance, how astonishing Jeremy Strong's performance is in S1 into S2. The post-you-know-what at the wedding where he dances with his kids is heartbreaking.

Still have no idea how they plan to have this wrapped in two hours. i wonder if the final episode will be longer? Your point still stands, there's a lot to wrap up. Then again, Mylod and Armstrong are in charge of the final two. I have faith Final episode confirmed as being 90 minutes.

I’m betting on Tom.
It’s still impressive that despite how awful all the people are they still make you feel sympathy for them, Roman especially.

Interesting responses in here. I didn't feel a huge load of sympathy for them tbh. Roman's bit made my toes curl. Absolutely superb. My main reactions are laughing or mild disgust at how awful they can be.
Great episode. Loved the opening with Roman prepping and the old bro stole the show. The show is so strong that even the side characters (mum, bro, bodyguard) have awesome memorable scenes.
Gunna be fascinating seeing what the writers do after this.

I am going to miss the shit out of this show when it’s gone.
Reviews have started coming in for The Idol. They’re not good. We could be waiting a while for the next show worth getting excited about.

Eh. Who said The Idol is supposed to be the next big show? I only heard of it about 3 days ago...

There seems to be a lot of shows I love/watch all of that are ending this year: this, Barry, Yellowstone, Ted Lasso.

Eh. Who said The Idol is supposed to be the next big show? I only heard of it about 3 days ago... Depends what you’re reading. It’s been in the radar for a while because it’s from the makers of Euphoria, exec produced and starring The Weeknd, and is the next major release from HBO. But also there’ve been stories circulating about a toxic work environment behind the scenes. At any rate HBO had big hopes for it. I’d say it’s probably going to end up going the way of Vinyl. Anyone remember that?

Fair enough.
I always had the impression Euphoria was fine but not really 11/10 Succession level.

I felt Ted Lasso has really been struggling to keep up the quality in the recent two seasons. The first was amazing, then slow decline for me. The first season was great, the second less so but had some standout moments. This season has really turned into more of a soap, and whilst it's watchable and given the odd laugh it's hardly one to recommend. I didn't know it was actually finishing this season, but had already decided I wouldn't be watching another season. Hopefully they can land a satisfactory finale and I have enjoyed time with the characters, but its been more comfort TV than essential. Succession on the other hand - it's been staggering from the start. No idea how it's going too end, but I have faith they will nail it. I'm glad they are ending the story their way, and not dragging it out for the sake of more seasons (money).

Didn't disappoint. Although I don't think the first half of this season was quite as strong as others, they stuck the landing.
Gutted it's finished but also delighted they didn't ruin it. It ends as the best TV series I've ever seen.
Can't wait to see what Jesse Armstrong and co do next.

I enjoyed the scene in the kitchen, the scene in the toilet, and the scene in the office.

Yeh this is one of the greats. Genuinely sad it's over, but only because I know they left it at a good place and we wont get to see more. Roman fucked it all up and got out of there happy about it, maybe. Shivvy Shiv so desperate for power she will play the happy wife to her more powerful husband, much like her despised mother. Even Tom so desperate he'll play subserviant to a man who told him he wants to fuck his wife right in front of his face. And Kendall, no wife, no kids, no dad. Nothing that final shot, Colin just there in the background, Kendalls guilty conscious constantly looming over him. And in the end, they were not serious people. Anyway, this is genuinely funny.

Wondered just for a second in that kitchen scene whether the writers had fallen for their own characters and wanted something for them.
Nope. Savage ending.
Feel for Kendall. Glad Roman got out. Fuck Shiv.

Just incredible. Loved watching Kendall disintegrate in full view of everyone. You get the feeling that had he held himself together, and not reverted to “I need to do this because it’s my birthright” mode, and crucially not fucking pedalled back over the whole murder thing there was a slim chance he could still have won the vote. [\spoiler]
Loved the poignant video scene too.
Anyway, don’t give me that final season BS. Let’s revisit this in five years once it’s become perfectly clear no one else can do TV this good.

Feel for Kendall. Glad Roman got out. Fuck Shiv. To quote The Day Today, that lovely scene was just the scented rose in the bumgut of Satan. Oh, and if you've listened to the podcast you'll know that drink was real. And Strong drank it. Several times. And puked.
