I'm honestly surprised how fun it is. I really bounced off the alpha hard but liked the story enough to buy it for a playthrough at least, but just messing about with the tools at your disposal is so joyous. I still find groups of snipers frustrating and there have been a couple of encounters clearly balanced for more players (as the AI prioritises poorly), but all in all it feels like they did exactly what they were aiming to do.
That said, it still doesn't make all that much sense as a service game to me. Similar fun vibes as Crackdown but that was relatively happy to be a once through then done sort of thing.

It feels a lot like Crackdown.
And it's been pretty funny so far.

Polished off the campaign part, think my total time in the end was about 16 hours, which isnāt too bad. I might dip into some of the endgame stuff thatās there at the moment as it does seem kind of interesting. That said that the campaign isnāt technically complete and it basically goes āwait a month to continueā after a cliffhanger is a little annoying, but oh well, itās free at least

I just hit endgame stuff too, around the same sort of 16h mark. I've done all the support missions too so I can start upgrading my gear properly.
Also hit level 30 with Harley so moving on to Deadshot now. I have been using all of them throughout the story but swinging about as Harley was the one I found the most fun and the SMG combo with a powerful Pistol felt really good. That said I've used Deadshot for the riddler races as you basically point and boost so relatively easy.

Ha, fucking hell Skill Up did NOT like this game. That review was proper scathing.

It's the best looter shooter I've played in ages. 9/10 for me. If you enjoyed borderlands, Division, Destiny, Crackdown, Diablo, Warframe etc id say it's a must buy.
I hope they do a free trial or something.
It's sitting at 86 on steam and really high on PSN.Ive got nothing but praise for it
Edit: With the ending it also has a ton of potential for DC story telling and become like Destiny with Rocksteady at the helm.

Yeah, itās so much better than I was expecting. Still wouldnāt recommend it at full price and the core of me would have preferred a genuine single player Arkham game, but that could have turned out shit anyway.
One thing thatās currently baffling me is the animosity towards this but the nigh on positive media coverage of Helldivers 2, which is also a live service game looter shooter.

I'm guessing it's because it's a 3d version of the first Helldivers which was quite beloved.

The Alpha didn't seem to do them any favors, as pretty much everything people posted about that was negative. I get that the (original) point of an Alpha is to fix stuff and make it better, but these days for games it's often where first impressions are made (NDAs notwithstanding)

My God I have gone from having relatively little interest to wanting it now. Thanks a lot, guys. Also, if you want to experience and enjoy some very angry gamers have a look at the comments of this Polygon article

You can play Deadshot like a Harrier Jet while bombing the shit out of everything and with all the perks activating the game does a very good job of burning my retinas out, very fun and the numbers, oh the glorious numbers everywhere!

Also, if you want to experience and enjoy some very angry gamers have a look at the comments of this Polygon articleWow, some proper lunatics in there, I love that everyone is ignoring that in comics no one ever dies and clutching their pearls over what you do in game. There are multiple clues in the story, some subtle, some not, that all isn't what it seems. My favourite is the go woke, go broke, outrage over the Lex Luthors gushing Bio of Wonder Woman in the Codex. There is a good reason it's written that way, by the version of Lex we get. One of the comments was right though, its definitely Rocksteady firing on all cylinders with the brief they were given.

The Steam thing is quite surprising considering it sounds like the PC version is a stuttery mess if you listen to DF. Good old denuvo added just before launch too, which you'd expect to derail positive ratings a bit. Don't think I'll be able to wait it out until it drops on PS+/GP now after you fuckers selling it to me. I'm setting up a HUKD alert for it now anyway, and would be all over a free trial like a crafty spider.

I don't think Valve would support that.

Yeah, surely they wouldn't.
There seem to be a lot of people who are really enjoying it out there, as well as a lot of really angry ones; separating the latter's screeds from the legitimate criticisms (most of which seem to focus on its repetitive nature, which is the key thing holding me back...not that The Division, Destiny et al aren't repetitive) is not a particularly challenging exercise.
Just look out for posts with codas such as "Fuck Rockstar with a cactus dildo" (that's a real one from Kotaku).

The minute to minute combat flow and loot make up the repetitiveness I think. The 4 characters play differently and you can build them in different ways, Ive got no problem with it some 30 hours in but mileage is going to vary on that one.
It's in a much better stage than the Division or Destiny where at launch, it will probably live or die on the Joker stuff they have lined up for a few weeks time.

I mean Diablo might be the most repetitive gameplay loop in existence but that hasn't stopped that being a gaming staple for years.

Steam does deal with review bombing by deleting reviews. This game will have certainly been review bombed, so I fully expect some of the negative reviews will have been deleted. I expect they are fairly aggressive with deleting when that happens as well, as it would be impossible to moderate without going through thousands of individual reviews, so likely a lot of legitimate complaints will get deleted as well.
If you look at the positive reviews, a lot of them are joke posts or are only vaguely positive. The most common reviews seem to say that it is fine, but not worth buying for more than 50% off.

Having watched skillups review, I don't think I could ever unsee some of the issues he points out if I played it now. They are quite big dealbreakers for me as well.
Glad some of you are having a good time with it though.

The only way to get negative steam reviews is to release an absolute dumpster fire of a game or a barely functional PC port.

So you need to have played a certain amount of time to review a game on Steam or can you just review anything?
Itās been about 10 years since I last used it.

So you need to have played a certain amount of time to review a game on Steam or can you just review anything? Itās been about 10 years since I last used it. You can just review something whenever but it does add a little message if you get it for free or if you have refunded it, as well as the time played on the review. Thereās also a review bomb detection mechanism in the Steam reviews where itāll show a graph of activity but thatās usually most useful after a game has been around for a while and has suddenly gotten a load of negative reviews.
