Well obviously any story missions in this game would need to be carefully crafted.
Like you've got to really think, what kind of nicknacks would Joker go to collect around the map within a time limit.

Avengers actually did their new content better, didn't play that new content but black panther and hawkeye content had proper stories and playable straight away.
this joker content was suppose to be their "come back to the game we have new content"

It's pretty standard Season Pass design, no? (in regards to accessing he character) Only season-passy game I play is Fortnite, but then you get about 10 'characters' with each season, and only the first one is unlocked when you buy the season pass. They don't have what you could really call hand crafted missions either, but they do redo most of the map.
Different kind of game I guess, but because I'm used to it I wouldn't have expected Joker to be unlocked immediately, I'd have expected him to be the final unlock at the end of the pass tbh.

Warframe does the same character unlock thing I believe.
It took me a couple of hours to unlock Joker just fannying about blowing things up, there's a vid where you can do it 40 mins.
It's a complete and utter non issue.
I'm sat here with Forbidden West and Dragons Dogma 2 installed on my PC and I love both but I find myself coming back to this of all things. It's so oddly satisfying like power washing.

Given how badly it seemed to flop I think it was supposed to be the their "buy the game we have some content"

It's so oddly satisfying like power washing. Funnily enough that's the exact vibe I get from this, especially with Fear Level being doable by doing almost any of the easier missions. I just mindlessly go about doing missions instead of cleaning things. nothing gets cleaning but I'm levelling up squad ranks, Fear tank and battle pass rank all the time.

Picked this up for £28 for Series X and, despite it being a chaotic fever dream of unnecessary complexity, it’s… decent?
Shooting is good. Traversal is at least varied. The four squad members keep it interesting even if it’s bollocks sometimes to play with one you don’t enjoy so much. Story so far is no worse than many of the games I’ve played and loved recently. The character modelling and animation is top tier. Performance is really solid.
Granted I’m only six hours in but so far not regretting my purchase.

Just like Phattso, I bought this game during the recent Xbox sale and got it for cheap. I'm echoing his sentiments and I'm enjoying it. Certainly enjoying it a lot more than I did the Gotham Knights game. Shame how easily a game can die if the internet is not prepared to look beyond trigger words like 'Live Service'.

I enjoyed the campaign of the Avengers game, but just didn't click with the hamster wheel grind of the live service bit they smooshed on to it. I have a feeling I'll be the exact same with this whenever I get around to playing it, despite Warner wanting me to "engage" with it like a second job.
I don't necessarily hate the game itself. Just that bullshit side of it.

I also picked it up recently and have spent a couple of hours with it so far. I also like what I've played. Looks good, plays well, and each of the four handles differently enough from the rest that it's good fun mixing up who you're playing as.

I stand by it being mechanically one of the best shooters out there. There's more depth to it than you'd expect and that's before you even touch the multitude of gear systems and builds.
It's just that it shouldn't have been a live service, an intensely fun 15-20 hour campaign/co-op would've been fine. The endgame loops aren't all that engaging and the way they've made it so you basically have to use that set in that season kills build variety a heck of a lot.

If I was ms or Sony I would just open the doors and take them straight away if that were to happen.

"Make us a live service game that is destined to fail!" "Your new game failed, so we are shuttering your studio" Its like Arkane Austin:
Bethesda: make some live service shite as its popular, we don't care if you are single player story focused studio
MS: we need more content on gamepass, consume content and then get excited for next content
"Your new game failed, so we are shuttering your studio"
From what I read Rocksteady is not the same studio it was during the batman games, people leave. Sony and MS are the last people who should buy studios right now

No point buying up a studio that has zero ownership of the IP they worked on, best to hire the people when it closes down.
Given they're a UK studio at least they've got better rights over redundancy than a lot of their US counterparts if it does close.

I didn't say anything about buying them, I said take the studio if it's closed. No costs involved.
Ms and Sony own plenty of IP and there was enough good in suicide squad to show there is talent there.

If this is true it's absolutely fucked up now that one game can tank a publisher owned studio. It's so unsustainable.

Thanks for that, Whizzo - an interesting, and somewhat depressing, read.
It's Anthem all over again.

I think while it's easy to blame WB it really does look like Rocksteady management really didn't know what the fuck they were doing. It sounds like Anthem all over again with the not even looking at Destiny as a model. It's baffling.

So much of its failure seems to come from incredibly stupid decisions that absolutely everyone could see coming.
Like dur! And this :
Maybe come up with a coherent plan before putting a game into production would be a good idea?
Can't blame Warner Bros for this sort of bad project planning.

The thing of it is, though, it's not the structure of Destiny that keeps people coming back (in fact it is loudly, and continuously derided) but the fact that moment-to-moment it's possibly the finest shooter ever made and people will take any excuse to play more and more and more. I lost myself to Destiny 1 and the first couple of years of Destiny 2 *in spite* of the RPG grinding horseshit, not because of it, because the gunplay is fucking sublime.
I'd take it as a point of pride that the creative director(s) at Rocksteady wouldn't want to follow the structural playbook. Just make a good fucking gameplay loop, you loons, and bolt the rest onto it.
Destiny only has the variety of content it has because they fucked story and cutscenes into the sun. It's so bare bones on that front. But Rocksteady are the other way around. So they stapled a less good core loop into a structure built around shallow narratives, and then spent bajillions adding some of the finest cutscenes the gaming world has ever seen. Seriously - the character work in Suicide Squad is off the charts.
But I don't play cutscenes so I'm left with a loop that's mid tier and loot that's mid tier and storytelling that's AAAA. I got value out of the £30 I spent on it in the sale, but there's little reason to go back.

Destiny is the best worst game Ive ever played. Everything about it is absolutely shite except the shooting. Although, tbh, the last expansion didn't really even have that going for it. Everything about it was, at best, boring.

The problem was that the planet of the gay silver surfers was an absolutely terrible shooting gallery
