Did lots of people get it free? I don't know what the uptake of Amazon Prime's free games is like, but I get the impression most people don't even know about it.
I also expect (based on my own personal experience) that the conversion rate of people claiming a free game and them actually downloading and playing it is really small, pretty much no matter what the game is.
Still, even if only a very few people claimed and played it, I would have expected there to be some good word of mouth if it was actually secretly a great game.
Nice they are still supporting it and giving what was promised is more than most failed live service games achieve. Can't see it lasting beyond that though.

Maybe, but surely if you even a partial interest in gaming you will have seen it on a website or two. It was a fairly big headline 2 months ago.
EDIT. I searched up the steamchart numbers for July then remembered it was redeemed on EGS /facepalm
