Readers, I started with Moonraker because I love it and I’m sick of pretending I don’t.

Started at the very beginning with the boy. He's enjoying it, surprisingly.

What's wrong with Moonraker?

I think Moonraker is probably the best Moore movie?
I probably shouldn't say that, because I haven't watched any of the other ones in ages. But Moonraker is the one I remember.

It’s usually top or near top of the worst bond lists, mainly because it’s absolutely ridiculous. I dunno people talk about ‘my bond’ but Moonraker is ‘my bond film’. First one I saw and set the template.
The stunts are great, the sets are great, the music (apart front the theme) is great, Jaws is great…. I dunno, it’s got everything a 7 year old could want. It still looks good today. You can tell it was the most expensive one.

I may be remembering this wrong, but I feel like most of the Moore ones were absolutely ridiculous in some way. At least the later ones were.

They were and are. It's their USP. It's also why the Moore's are the best ones.
Live and Let Die is supposed to be the "best" one isn't it? And that one's batshit.
Not seen Moonraker in years, but yeah I also enjoyed it as a kid and I'd put it up there with my faves. Might watch it again and see if it stacks up....

Bond has always been a "I have no idea why people like these" blind spot in my life. I might try to watch them my son to see if I can get anything out of them.

Moore does have one of the worst ones, though. Octopussy is dreadful. It used to be my least favourite until the one with Madonna and the surfing

This might be better in the unpopular opinions thread, but The Craig Bond set of films are the best of the lot.

I dunno. Spectre and the oil drinking ones are pretty bad.

Moore is the Bond for me. Probably because those were the ones that always seemed to be on tv when I was younger. The camp suits it.

The Craig ones all blur in to one for me, which considering they're the ones I've seen more recently is not a good sign.
Also, they seem to be unable to make up their mind if they want to be a serious thriller or if they just they just want to run with the silliness of it all.

The Spy Who Loved Me is technically the best one, but I can’t help but love A View to a Kill as it is utterly ridiculous.

I'm a fan, though for me I like the little slices of history in the exotic locations. Moonraker is OK but it's not in the top 10.

For your eyes only is the best Moore movie, closely followed by the spy who loved me and live and let die. All are great. Why are the Amazon ones not in 4k? They look considerably worse than my standard blu ray versions...

Amazon's subtitles are completely fucked across the board.
I've had a few shows where I've sat through 20 minutes of forrin thinking it qwas an artistic decision only to realise I had to have permanent subs on.
I don't know how Bezos got to space if Prime Video is an indication of the quality control.

Innit? It was even a problem with that Liam Neeson nonsense they were promoting really heavily a while back. Guys, if you're going to massively push a film on your platform, how about at least one person watch it first to make sure it works, eh?

For his it’s Casino Royale, the desert one and then there are 2 or 3 more. Casino Royale is my favourite Bond, I think my dislike of a lot of them is because I associate them with Saturday afternoon film watching with adverts when I was a child. I’m not sure how many I’ll get through before I give up

Brosnan's Bond went downhill very quickly but Goldeneye was a proper return to form and reinvigorated the series. He captured a bit of both Connery and Moore but sadly they, errm, overstretched a bit in terms of plot of subsequent films.

Tomorrow Never Dies was still pretty good and The World is Not Enough was surprisingly ahead of its time by a decade. And the Garbage theme song was a banger. Die Another Day was pretty middling though, I'd admit. But 3/ 4 bangers is a pretty good average.

Brosnan and Craig both had great debut films, then proceeded to shit the bed more and more as each film went on.

At least with Craig it was a one good one bad cycle. With Brosnan it was one good and then a steady decline

I get what they tried to do with Tomorrow Never Dies, but Jonathan Pryce just wasn't bad enough. I did like Elektra in TWINE. Agree it was a steady decline though, Die Another Day is just awful.
