Most of the Bonds are poor.
As Rum implied, only the Craig ones are decent movies.

I get what they tried to do with Tomorrow Never Dies, but Jonathan Pryce just wasn't bad enough. I did like Elektra in TWINE. Agree it was a steady decline though, Die Another Day is just awful. Just to clarify, Tomorrow Never Dies is the one I was thinking of when I said 10 years ahead of its time. I always get those two confused because The World Is Not Enough just sounds more appropriate for the film's theme. But. That Garbage track is still a banger nonetheless. Best the Bond films have had outside Shirley Bassey and Nancy Sinatra.

The World is not Enough would be a banger if you just cut all the Denise Richards parts. Sophie Marceau was good, Robert Carlyle was good, back to basics ex-KGB people trying to blow up a pipeline plot. The BMW Z8 was a gorgeous car. Garbage song is a classic.
Its got a lot more going for it than Tomorrow Never Dies or Die Another Day, which is probably the worst bond movie of all of them.

And the North Korean who has genetic treatments to turn into a posh Englishman. Fuck me Die Another Day was a crime against humanity.

Yeah the World is not Enough is pretty good except for Richards and the final fight with Carlye. Tomorrow never dies has got a lot better with age. Their is a good argument that Brosnan was the perfect bond let down by a couple of mediocre films and one god awful one. Sid James is hands down the worst bond, even Lazenby is better. In fact Lazenby would have been great if they hadn't dubbed him for most of the third act. I wish he had stayed on and done at least one more, then we wouldn't have had to watch Diamonds are forever, which is terrible (apart from Wint and Kidd)

Brosnan was 100% let down by two shite films but DAD was truly dire.
Golden Eye - Relaunched the franchise. Plenty o(toole)f fun TND - Meh Elliot Carver was a poor villain. TWINE - Underated and one of the better Bonds. Robert Carlise is great, It's a bond plot and he murders an unarmed woman like any good psychopathic assassin should. DAD - Not only a bad Bond but a truly shitty film.

Bit off topic, but I have questions for anyone who has a newish Fire Stick and kids: I heard the new ones have different profiles for kids? I have an old one, so there's just one PIN to enable pretty much everything. (a) Can you set time limits for kids? I have a newer Fire Tablet and on that you can give each kid their own account, and set time limits. (b) Can you set different age limits for different kids? (c) Does all this work *without* signing up to the Kids+ service? I'm pretty sure it would, as it does on the tablet. The kids+ service just enables more free content for kids
(d) Can you differentiate between apps?
I'd rather give them unlimited iPlayer access, but time-limited Youtube access.
Basically, I just want a way to set time limits on their Youtube viewing. Upgrading might be worth it anyway for the faster UI, but since my TV is small, I don't really need the 4K etc... so the main reason to upgrade would be setting limits per kid.

Being a parent sounds exhausting. It's pretty easy. You just let them sit infront of youtube for 12 hours a day. The hard part is dealing with the guilt.

Is the free with ads version of Babylon 5 in HD, or is it just SD if it's free?

Could I talk the girlfriend into watching all the James Bonds? I think it might be a hard sell.

It's definitely the remastered versions, which I think is about as good as it's going to get.

The IMDB TV ads model is pretty decent, only one ad per break and they’re short too. Nice contrast to watching All4 or ITV Hub where the ad breaks can feel longer than on actual broadcast telly.

Could class them as musicals given the intro songs. The intro songs generally involve naked women dancing on screen... so it depends what she's into. I mean, while the Bonds have always been a bit bloke-ish, and have probably dated quite a lot, they're a long running mainstream franchise and the idea that women wouldn't watch them at all seems a bit extreme. My mum used to watch them when they were on tv, and quite a few women were into Connery (and to a lesser extent the others). I've seen a couple of the older ones at the cinema, and there were a decent number of women and couples there... same as any movie. I suspect it's more about how open she is to older movies and action movies, rather than bond in particular.

Yeah - my wife loves the Bonds, we did a complete rewatch, one a week, about 10 years ago and she's suggested doing it again now that they are on Prime.
I'd be up for it if they were in 4k - what's going on there? Weird that US gets 4k but the home of Bond doesn't.

They still look ok. Ive been chipping away at them and, while ive never done a A-B test, I cant imagine the older ones would look significantly worse than their 4k counterparts.

Can I shock you? I've never seen a 4k movie. Am I in for a treat? Is it VHS-DVD levels of enjoyment? Any soap opera effect? Can I add film grain?

4k annoys the shit out of me for movies/TV shows. I just don't need to see the actors pores.

Remember when CGI was coming in and we had to endure years of absolutely shite effects before it became seamless? A ton of 2000/10s blu-ray 'remasters' were guinea pigs for digital noise reduction, digital colour correction, changing aspect ratio and stuff like that and they were done terribly. A lot of 4K versions of older movies basically just fix that and make them look like normal movies again rather than PS3 cut scenes. Sorry, thats really boring.

A lot of 4K versions of older movies basically just fix that and make them look like normal movies again rather than PS3 cut scenes. Sorry, thats really boring. The marketing has been very successful in convincing people that more pixels=miles better. In reality the screen size is equally important. If your TV isn't at least 55" or your don't sit very close 4k isn't significantly different to HD. By extension 8k is pointless under 75" (i.e. for almost everyone). However quality HDR is where it's at. Huge difference. Hard to go back. Makes the average cinema seem a bit crap. You'll see details in dark scenes you didn't even know were there and colours pop (if a film has been properly tone mapped when remastered).

Seeing extra details isn't always a good thing though... especially if the director wasn't expecting you to see them.
I remember a couple of old movies where the sfx illusion was totally broken by the upgrade from vhs to dvd.

Yeah we only have a 32" telly so I doubt 4K would do anything. But nobody seems to make 32" 1080p TVs anymore so I'm a bit worried about this one breaking as downgrading to 720 is just fucking gash.
