Aye, I've always been a bit of a dirty warez monkey, but Spotify and the like put a stop to that for music. Consoles by their nature and the convenience of Steam put a stop to it for games. If there was a single consolidated platform for most of the stuff I want to watch at a decent cost, I'd probably be kissing goodbye to my NAS or at least downsizing it drastically for personal backups. Fragmentation and fuckery like this is just pushing me away from them. I've never been arsed with setting up a NAS etc, usually just went down the streaming route. I did like faffing with Kodi etc but can't be bothered finding a decent download and then explain to my wife and kids how to watch it etc. It's all just too much hassle. Streaming services took all that pain away. That's where Plex has been a godsend. It's super stable and I'm not tempted to fiddle like I did with Kodi. It's just another app on the TV my partner or kids can fire up and browse.

When did Amazon decide you couldn't buy xbox/ps credit using a gift card? How fucking stupid is that.

Jellyfin is client/server thing as well, but you don't need an account with a third party and manage your own authentication. I'd suggest using the official client if you try it out. You *can* just use any old web browser, but I've very rarely ran in to transcoding issues on that that didn't seem to affect the official client.
The client app is fairly broadly available (android/linux/windows/firesticks and whatnot) but not quite as ubiquitous as plex.

It's pretty much universal now, it's an anti-money laundering measure.
I got a gift card for Argos a couple of months ago for doing an ONS survey and was quite surprised it did work to buy PSN credit.

We get thank you vouchers from work, getting a gift card for Currys and then PSN credit works. Hoping to get one more this month to cover PS Extra.

All episodes on day one is unusual for Amazon.

I think it looks visually good. Seems to have some humour too, though hard to tell if the tone is exactly what I want from that.
I'll give it a watch certainly.

Invincible is back! (for the second half of S2)
First (well, fifth) episode is quite good.

Starting the new Invincible episode with a short Apex Legends ad then a very brief announcement that Invincible was brought advert free because of Apex was a nice surprise.
The episode itself was very good, fucking hell...

Yeah no. I'll pay the whatever a month to go ad-free. Then turn it off when I decide there's nothing worth watching on Prime.

Hello Dear Reader,
I noticed on my Lloyds Bank Cashback offers 40% on prime membership.
I completely forget about my banks cashback system but looks like good one of you're with Lloyds. Unfortunately I think it expires shortly.
Till next time
XOXO

Thanks for the tip but isn't it just Prime Video Channels (i.e. the add on ones) rather than base Prime Video? At least, that's the case on my account.

So I'm watching the latest episode of The Boys with the new ad-supported Prime.
And the ad stuff... isn't actually that bad? It could absolutely get worse, but I watched a full hour, and there was a single 30-second ad in the middle of it. And that felt fine to me.

Lucky you. I get 2 ads at the start then 2 ad breaks during each episode.

Hmm, that's a bit weird. It's assumed everyone would be getting the same amount of ads.

I’ve been lucky so far, I got the app update a couple of months ago but no ads so far. It takes ages for the app to start now though so I suspect it’s not working right with our oldish TV. The first few times I assumed it was dead because the screen just goes black and nothing happens. It was only once I’d given up trying to restart it that I found it does eventually load.

Hmm, that's a bit weird. It's assumed everyone would be getting the same amount of ads. For us they seem to have ramped it up over the last few months - started with a 15 second ad at the start of the shows, now there's 45 seconds at the start and at least 2 sets of 45 seconds in an hour.
It's going to get worse I'm sure.

Yeah, 15 second ad at the start and sitting through a 45sec set now after less than 20 minutes so will no doubt have another around the 40 minute mark.

I was reading a thing the other day that said Amazon is under-cutting other streaming services in terms of what they charge for ad-slots and driving prices down across the board. Likely result is that it will get worse for everyone as other sites will have to increase the number of ads to keep the same revenue. Cunts.

That's just classic Amazon behaviour... I really should put my money where my mouth is and stop using the fuckers.

Well shit, I knew I was tempting fate by letting on that our app wasn't getting any ads, it looks like it's completely dead now as it won't start up at all. Looks like Prime will we getting cancelled here.

Oddly enough only the 1 ad break during the latest episode of The Boys.
