Might be a good time to buy RDR1 when it goes on sale, before it's inevitably removed from the Xbox store...

Yeah I wouldn't be at all surprised if RDR is removed from digital stores. Also won't be surprised if RDR running on Series X is better than the remake of the GTA trilogy is anything to go by.

I was thinking that a Crazy Taxi collection is long overdue. All three games in a single package would be ideal.

Quake 2 remaster seems basically confirmed now. Should be unveiled at Quakecon, next week.
Here's hoping for a good job with some new extras. Also, it sure would be nice if current owners were upgraded for free, like Quake 1.

I imagine they’ll drop it at quakecon like they did with quake 1 and doom 3.
I was hoping for it last year. I’m stupidly excited.

Hopefully it's another Nightdive joint.

Has anyone said Tenchu yet? A remake of the first, a proper full stealth and no other bullshit experience; not open world, but based on discrete levels that have multiple layout versions and ratings based on success. Ideally with some new levels or ones taken from later games. 20 or so in total, with three layouts each would do. Perhaps unlock other characters once you have finished the campaign with Rikimaru and Ayame? Expanded item list and more stealth kills. The original soundtrack, or something equally evocative.
It would make me so happy. I guess there isn't a big market for it but you can dream.

Acquire are still around so something that plays like Tenchu is definitely possible, the rights to Tenchu have been been passed between various publishers though, Sony Music Entertainment sold the rights to Activision, then Activision offloaded the rights to Fromsoftware, I'm not sure if they'll be doing anything after Fatal Shadows wasn't the greatest success.
Remasters or any sort of collection are probably a legal nightmare with so many publishers each involved with specific games.

Anyway it still fucks me off that UT has been left to rot by Epic, can't they just let another studio do a remaster/remake of 99 or 2004?

I'd love a remaster of UT99.

I was playing a bit of Split/Second last night on my Series X. Gotta be one of my fav racers of all time, really gets the adrenaline pumping that one. I love the way the blasts of the explosions affect your car and you battle to keep it on track, its awesome stuff.
If they ever decided to 4k 60fps remaster that one I would be very happy indeed. It wont happen though, so hey ho.

Does UT99 need a remaster? I think I played it not too long ago and it ran without any problems whatsoever. I like the Quake port but that's only really because it's on console now. If I was on PC, I'd likely still play the original

If I was on PC, I'd likely still play the original More so in terms of actual modern lobbies being made and the client updated to allow different resolutions, aspect ratios, frame rates, cheat protection. Yeah you can have fans do it, but sometimes an official product just takes the faff away.

I'd love a remaster of UT99. After UT3 kinda fizzled, and the UT Alpha was dropped like a hot potato after years of pretending they cared and let fans do the work, I'll be surprised if Epic ever goes back to Unreal again. At this point, Unreal is just synonymous with graphics engine, not a multiplayer game.

Well, to be nerdy, it was the single player game first, but yes I agree with your point which is why I wish they would let another dev have a crack. It's not as if they can't afford to outsource.
Also I don't think they'll ever make another game again.

Eternal darkness remake or even remaster would be amazing (as long as denns dyack or any of last studio don't go near it) Sadly Niintendo are arsehats about the game from what I understand

Honestly the Doom 3 and Quake 1 ports we got, I love, so I see no reason that q2 might be fucked. Famous last words of course. Yeah I’d give my left tit for a current gen console version of the first UT.

Is it really though? Can't imagine the demand for it is that high and whatever money a UT99 remaster made would be a drop in the ocean to what they're raking in from Fortnite. Can't see any reason why Epic would bother. Fortunately I think UT has pretty decent bots- better than Q3 anyway
I wonder how much neilka is making. Perhaps he could get an FG server set up for UT/Q3

I guarantee the demand on the PC would be high if someone did justice to a UT99 remaster.

I haven't got the first clue about the PC scene these days to be honest, but I thought arena shooters was a long dead genre. I would love it to come back though. Even if I'm too shit to play them now, I'd still enjoy watching (especially 1v1), like fighting games

There's quite a big demand for classic stuff atm in PC space. The System Shock Remake and it's success is evidence of that but that's also due to the absolute state of AAA releases on PC. Command and Conquer Remastered sold incredibly well, the market is definitely there, but I think a lot of people just see console games for what game genres are popular or not, so that's why almost every game in that space is open world with micro transactions/GaaS/team based multiplayer. I reckon a revival of corridor shooters/arena shooters would do quite well, but not on console.

I wish Sony would implement a similar form of backwards compatibility since I've got the PS3 version and the chances of any sort of re-release seem incredibly slim.

I feel like the relative inaccessibility of classic shooters on console gives the perception of disinterest, but if Epic or Valve were to release a remastered collection of their older games at a decent price it would probably sell pretty well. Whether that's financially worthwhile to them when they have other shit going on that prints money, fuck knows.

I have no idea how they sold, but the Doom and Quake ports on the Switch are pretty sweet. A UT99 version like that would be great.

Games like Doom and Quake are much more reliant on single player though. I have no idea how many people would want to play UT99 servers on console. I don't think Quake 3 Live was especially successful. And while bots exist, they just don't cut it for long.
Unreal 1 though, that one could potentially see a revival, even if I was always much more of a Quake 2 guy. There's a number of late 90's single player shooters that could be great on consoles. For that matter, I've always wondered why a seminal title like Half-Life is still stuck with only a PS2 version (which played pretty well, mind). Especially considering Valve has kept updating it for modern compatibility even in recent years.

Presumably valve see no reason to give console manufacturers money and it’s in their interest to show steam as a platform that lasts forever.

That hasn't stopped them from porting their other games to consoles though. Back when Orange Box and Portal 2 were made, a port of Half-Life Source would have been an interesting XBLA/PSN release.

Powerstone 1/2 would be great in online multiplayer with a hd upgrade. Can’t believe Capcom haven’t done it yet

I wish Sony would get Santa Monica to tart up the old God of War games (i.e. I, II, and Ascension), as they did with III.
