Final Fantasy Tactics needs the (Tactics Ogre) remake treatment. Love the game - it's one of my favourites - and the cutscenes added in the War of the Lions version are lovely but the difficulty is so all over the place and didn't get any attention. I think you need to grind a bit between stage 4 and 5 or you stand no hope. If you aren't adequately leveled/specced when you get to the first boss, it's very possible to end up in an unwinnable state and have to start a new game if you haven't got a save from a few stages back. The third half gives you some unique characters and abilities that are so OP as to break the game. How about a skill that breaks an enemy's weapon/armour that almost always hits, from about half way across the map. You can basically end stages in a couple of moves. It becomes an exercise in which units/abilities/weapons should I ban myself from using to provide some kind of challenge. It's a weird situation to be in when your main thought is how to help out the enemy while still being able to ultimately beat them, like you feel sorry for them
Even despite all that though, it's an amazing game
I'd even take a new entry in the vein of the sequels

I always got stuck so never persevered but I'd definitely play a remastered or remade version, wish they'd do Vagrant Story too as I never actually completed that one either.

Speeding it up was not the right choice.

I feel this won't be loved by people who never played the original. The gameplay was never the strongest and some of the boss fights were absolutely ridiculous. I also remember getting stuck near the end of the game, with no medkits and there was an unavoidable blast, that would take most of my health off..

Yeah, it's a bit of an odd choice as a remaster. I'm not even sure how well it did. I love the IP and enjoyed the original game but there is nothing about it that makes me want to try it again with a slightly shinier coat.

Oh for sure I want it. I just want to make people aware of the shortcomings. Plus you get to meet the man himself in the game.

spoilerz, zisssou, spoilerz! Okay, fair enough, it's 20+ years old.
I'm going to stick to Legacy of Kain for my remaster kicks this year. Equally inessential, perhaps, but I loved it so much back in the day.

The Thing is my favourite film of all time but I never played this as wasn't a gamer around the time this came out. Actually grabbed it for the PS2 last year and tried to play it and... yeah, no. Without the attachment to the original game and the nostalgia goggles, I don't think I'll actually enjoy this, as much as I'd like to.

Hmm, didn't realise The Thing re-master wasn't *really* a re-master. Thought it would be a proper Resi Evil 2, 3/Silent Hill 2 style re-make. I can't see it doing very well.

It seems a weird choice as I don't remember it being that well reviewed or that popular. Though I think most of the reviews I saw said that the basic idea was great, it's just that the implementation was flawed.

Hmm. If you’re on the fence, it’s very easy to install the 2002 game on Win 11 and have it up and running.

Enjoyed the Thing back in the day. Quite a few nods to the film and the stress level management of the npcs you meet and join up with you was well done. Kept you on your toes in case they "changed".
Doubt I'll get this version though.

Doubt I'll get this version though. Yeah this. I enjoyed it when I played it all those years ago but it's still the same game under the visual uplift and it could be really frustrating as was the style of gameplay at the time where there was no universal 3rd person gameplay handbook. It really was quite the wild west in what kind of control scheme/3rd person mechanics you were going to get and I'll be honest the subject material got me through to the end rather than the gameplay. I feel like 3rd person games from the old days age waaaay quicker than FPS games.

The Thing is an incredibly difficult game to like. I never got far before I just decided to watch the film instead with absolutely no regrets about that decision.
There's just so much to be fixed in the original game that it's difficult to see how a remake can work without rebuilding from the ground up and delivering something that bears little resemblance to the original. In this particular instance, totally overhauling the graphics would probably have been the right call. Slithering, organic masses just don't work well with early PS2 textures wrapped around some rather chunky polygons, this game tends to keep scenes quite flatly lit and doesn't really use shadows to hide and break things up.
Recently, it's been the romhack scene that's been doing the best work, leaving the important things be, whilst addressing key issues. Like Widescreen and progressive mode hacks for PS2 games. Or hacking in the control scheme from more modern iterations of a game back into the PS2 era Armored Core games. That's all I wanted, I don't really want a butcher knife taken to games.

It feels like the basic concept of the Thing game is ripe for a bunch of indie games to do now. Maybe there are some that have done the whole 'don't know who to trust' thing, but I haven't heard of them.

Right now Broken Sword 2: Smoking Mirror Isn't there already a remaster of 2? Might be PC only, but I'm sure there's been some improvements to it already.
