RE6 is garbage. No arguments there.

RE6 is garbage. No arguments there. When I first played it I really didn't believe all those impressions of it being bad. But my god, that first level of endless QTEs (who remembers QTEs???) just turned me off and the rubbish shooting sections with Chris. Eeesh it really was a train wreck, but I'm thankful for it as resulted in a resurgence for Capcom of late. Monster Hunter World, Resi 7, Resi 2 remake, Resi 3 remake which is not for everyone, SF5 came back, Resi 8. Edit: DMC5 too. Twas brilliant.

The problem I had with Chris' campaign is that it was the most action focused but I was running out of ammo constantly, which killed it
One great thing about it is that after about 3 kicks, the characters act like they've put their back out and need a sit down for a few minutes. They're not as young as they used to be. Remember when Leon could jump through a first story window, do a roll and just carry on? Leon and Chris look depressed AF as well, which is also great

DMC5 was pretty toight too. I really need to play more of that. DMC5 is great but the load times on PS4 were really bad - even the menus and shop had loading screens. It was bearable during the campaign but for going back to replay missions it was pretty off putting
Also, though I think it's fairly common knowledge, DMC was in development as Resi 4 until they decided it wasn't going in the right direction and became its own game

You'll enjoy it on next gen consoles although you have to buy a new copy which was bullshit. Also the raytracing isn't worth the performance hit.

Really happy they're giving us 2, 3, and 7 as free upgrades.

Now F-Zero. Where the fuck is that game. I still believe that Miyamoto is just pissed that Sega made a game that Nintendo couldn't even begin to improve on. I also have this notion, from his vague commentary around F-Zero, that Miyamoto might not be the terrific smiling fun guy he gets billed as, but is possibly a total cunt who doesn’t care about any IP that he didn’t personally create himself. That whole thing about him being a regular guy who rides his bike to work makes me think of how Putin says he lives in a modest flat and rides the tram to the Kremlin for his 10k per year job of ruling an empire.

What makes RE5 a total goddamn failure (and I don’t think anyone had mentioned it) is that they removed Inventory Tetris.
I found it impossible to complete the game in single player because the AI companion had to do something specific so you could defeat Volcano Whesker and she wouldn’t do it, had to rope someone in online to finish it. The forced co-op was garbage I did not want.
I was also just annoyed that the main thing RE4 showed was that they should move away from the stupid endless Umbrella stuff and tell different stories. 5 immediately went “nope! We learned nothing! More Umbrella!”

I've finished it multiple times in single player and have no idea what you're talking about
Sheva was fine as an AI partner. I wouldn't say managing her was fun and I'd prefer it if you did have to, but it doesn't come close to ruining the game in any way. My biggest issue with her is if she dies
The stories in RE games have always been stupid anyway - it's part of the charm

It was around that time we're the gaming industry tried to force some sort of co-op into the majority of single player games. If you just want to enjoy the game by yourself you're forced to have some shit AI partner following you around.

For some reason I bought both of the Army of Two games which had the forced co-op partner if you weren't playing with a friend and they were so bad especially when you were downed and they'd do anything and everything but revive you.

But I don't want them to force AI companions on me if I play it singleplayer. Just let me play it alone, and give the option for another player to drop in any time. I don't care if the co-op is unbalanced, because it's mainly about hanging around and hilariously fucking up anyway.

I have a sinking feeling that Crystal really is going to remake the original Tomb Raider again, Survivor-style. The whole "unification" idea is very silly, but then so has been much of the Survivor trilogy. And the Legend trilogy, come to think of it.

I mean, it looks rubbish though. BotW is leagues ahead visually. If Nintendo released this as a trailer for a new Zelda, I'd be pretty disappointed

The world looks good. But it does make me wonder how much they could update the graphics without needing to significantly alter the gameplay.
Kakariko Village is a tight little hub which was very cleverly designed to keep giveng you glimpses and hints of areas you might be able to get to, or possible solutions. Once you make it that realistic, you kinda have to up the size, and the world becomes much more complex and busy. It'd be much harder to identify what was important or interactive, and which areas you should be able to get to, or not.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Visually, it's completely redundant because there's better looking games already out

If I had to guess, Miyamoto might be a good guy, but might be difficult to work for.
He seems a bit like Hayao Miyazaki, who is a genius. But also a complete workaholic to the detriment of everything else in his life, and who expects the same out of the people who work for him.

This is why for me the 3DS versions are the definitive and won't be topped imo. I don't necessarily think putting a new lick of paint on the graphics really adds to a classic game. I was playing a bit of Shadow of the Colossus the other day, and thought yeah looks nicer, gameplay slightly tighter, but I'm not having anymore 'fun' than the original. But sure we're in this obsession with remastering games, making them look 60FPS 4k 8k etc etc etc.

But sure we're in this obsession with remastering games, making them look 60FPS 4k 8k etc etc etc. A lot of people like to imagine the games they played as children (or just when they were younger) looking much prettier than they actually were. Remasters try to scratch exactly that itch. I say "try" because nostalgia usually overpowers any improvements a remaster makes, and when it gets released those same people are sometimes disappointed because it doesn't look like their younger self imagined it being... Remasters do also serve the more practical function of making older games accessible to a new/wider audience, mind, but the rose-tinted glasses crew plays a big part in making them seem wanted.
