Meater 2 plus goes up to 1000 degrees F, and is fine for open flames. It even works in a deep fat fryer lol, or under water.

Oh yeah nice one. £20 extra for that peace of mind seems worth it

I think I got that one for my dad's Christmas. It is more consistent than my original one (from like 7 years ago).

Got a hunk of pork destined for either the oven (boo) or god willing the BBQ. Do I gamble on the forecast being wrong...

Rain or snow haven't stopped me smoking. You only need to be outside to light the fire, put in the meat, and then take it out

I bottled it and did it in the oven.
I'm sort of glad of the more controlled enviro for my first go with the Meater anyway. It's fantastic! Just one probe, wireless, fantastic app.
I never realised this was shit about normal probes, but I love that you don't have to tell it the weight of your meat, nor in turn does it try to tell you how high your cooking temp should be. You just tell it what you're cooking, how well you want it done, and then throw it in. It just uses an algorithm and its various sensors to detect how long it will take to get done.
I guess the idea is that the various cooking temps are plastered all over the place; you can see for yourself if it's too hot or too cold for the cook you're going for.
Really impressed. I can see why it's expensive.

Smoking in the rain - the only time I did that was with an ECB and I watched each raindrop remove a perfect circle of the black paint as it hit the hot surface.
I know full well a Weber would hold up better but I've always had at the back of my mind that it's probably not good for it. I take it you guys have some sort of cover in your gardens?

Have never covered my BBQ!
Meater still won't be able to estimate big cuts of pork in particular due to the stall.

For a metal bbq, I never really worried, but preferred to cook in the sun (with a beer!) With the egg I did leave it out in the rain (light) last time, but it did cool it down a bit, so I did unfurl the garden parasol for it to get protection. I would likely do the same if it was hosing it down. It kind of makes sense for the low and slow cooking. I should possibly petition for a covered 'outdoor kitchen' area to be developed! /lightbulb sparks up

Definitely one thing I want to do too. Got as far as building a BBQ stand out of a couple of palettes and some old cupboard doors!
