I have a ceramic egg, so it should be ok, definitely not a Faraday cage there.
Pulled pork was awesome, even the teenager was pleased.
Noice. Now waiting on bananas stuffed with chocolate. 😀

My original bbq (weber) was great, until it all fell apart after 20years.
I can't really get on with the replacement kettle bbq i bought, so got a mini kamado grill rip off. It's already amazing after one use.
Whole family delighted with the pulled pork & requests for brisket next time. Given how unenthusiastic my missus usually is for more barbecued food after a meatfest, this is excellent progress. 😀

Ha! Already mooted that and have been shot down.
Tbh, a slab of meat and maybe some sausages afterwards would be all we need, so the mini will do us fine.
It's awesome, still going strong after 7hrs. I could have stuck another slab of meat in ffs! 😛
It holds the heat so well. I am really impressed. Should have got one ages ago.

My Weber on the other hand sucks! How so? Never heard anything but praise for them It was specifically wrt the use of a wireless meater thermometer I love my Weber otherwise! It's a very fancy one with a gas powered starter, storage bin and shelf area. And it's a very fancy blue colour. It's traveled with us from when we lived in the USA.

That'll get you cancelled around here - don't you know the only way is do it from scratch with two sticks?!

I use a flamethrower I got from the middle Aisle of Aldi.
Feel like Ripley everytime I use it.

I have always sworn by it and only used a "manly" charcoal BBQ but yesterday I finally conceded and bought a char broil gas BBQ.
Took me 5 seconds to light, 5 minutes to heat up and 4 min to cook the steaks.
Taste wise ill be honest noticed hardly any difference and the end result better than anything I've had on a charcoal bbq.
Probably mostly skill based but I won't be going back.

Fired the kamado up an hour & a half ago. Got a brisket in there. Missus wanted beef to go with roast potatoes & Yorkshire puddings for today, so happy to oblige.
It was right up to temp & holding steady so quickly. God i love this thing.
Meater will hopefully get it's first test drive too.
Was going to make my own rub, but the supermarket had a very similar ingredient one, so took the easy route. If the components work, then I'll sort out my own in future.

Total result again. Lovely taste, moist and falling apart brisket.
Looks like Sunday roast will have to become a thing. Think my missus is becoming a bbq fan at long last.
Should have slung something else in afterwards tbh to not waste the charcoal& residual heat.

Sorry. It's all gone. Was lovely. Need a bigger lump next time though. 0.7kg shrunk a lot, despite still being really moist. I did see 1kg was generally recommended, so should have sussed. Especially with a wannabe carnivore teen in the household.
I will try to remember to get judged next time.
I hope my photography will be better than ecosse-standard!
Taste-wise it must be good. Missus suggesting all sorts including a slab of beef option for xmas. How times change! 😀

That would make sense since the metal of my Weber kettle is easily twice as thick as any BBQ I've had before. Bah that's unfortunate. That meater thing is right up my street otherwise.

And to reference something said earlier, I don't personally think charcoal has enough time to impart much or any flavour when just grilling. Even if it does there is lots to be said for the convenience factor which is tipped massively in favour of gas when the food is only going to be on there for a matter of minutes.
Plus, you can regain some of the effect and spectacle with a smokebox. That was my first smoker setup actually.
I'm always quietly amused when your average British dads argue over charcoal and gas when both serve you cremated slabs of carbon from a Birds Eye box

Has anyone else got experience with a meater? Especially inside a Weber? I'm seeing that you can't have them over direct heat, which is fine but it does make me nervous about how much heat they can survive.

I've used one with my *whispers* gas Weber, so my opinion is probably worthless...
I went for the + model where the charging case provides the BT signal, which IIRC wasn't the case with the basic model. You just stick the case to the side of the grill and it had no problem communicating with the probe. BT range is still a bit shit mind you, so I had to set up a spare tablet outside to keep track of it (which then syncs with your phone).
It's great for low and slow cooks.

Any thoughts on how it would handle say a roast for example, where it's not quite direct heat but still a lot hotter than low and slow?
This is basically my main use case. Often have two baskets of coal on the go on either side, meat in the middle on some sort of tray.

Yeah, should be fine for a roast. I've used mine for those a couple of times.
They're good for ambient temps up to 527°F/275°C, which is well over what a typical roast would be so no worries there.

Was just about to post the temps, they go plenty high enough. I got a meater2+ with the weird battery operated bluetooth relay thing that dfunked has. It worked really well. I could sit on my arse in the living room and check progress. This was with a cermaic grill though, so maybe with metal ones ymmv. The app interface was pretty easy for using right away with zero reading of manuals too. Having to create an account for the app was a bit surprising, but I guess they want to harvest all my cooking temp deets and push recipes at me. ;-P The ability to select meat/method and then have the app plop out the best temp and estimate times with alarms etc was great.
