That's bonkers. The resources they've poured into AoS* is worrying when this sort of discount crops up. GW are pretty cut throat about their profits
*Disclaimer: I'm 40k and I'm beyond pissed off at how Marines get treated compared to almost every other faction. At least I don't play Eldar though

@ryands Do it. Then put some of that £40 saving towards the battletome for the faction in the box you like best.
(Or, if you're like me, just end up buying both lol)

I can't return the amazon one as I literally finished gluing the models today. Aiming to spray paint and start painting tomorrow. I assume amazon don't check barcodes or anything on returns. May give it a go and just order the cheap one and try anyway. Worst case scenario I ebay that one.

Just a quick FYI: two Dominion boxes would bag you over 2000 points for both factions (That's two full size matchplay armies)

They aren't going to look at a serial number. If Zyr has bent your ear then order 2, send one back to Bezos and ride into the sunset like a pirate with 2 2000 points armies for the price of one. If you're that worried about a barcode then rebox one of the new ones with your Amazon box

Agreed, which is sort of my point. If they aren't selling expect a hard pivot from GW

I'd possibly even cause some "damages once opened" as an excuse to return if it got that far.
What I don't get is the discount in the first place. No idea if the box has struggled in sales, or if it's AoS popularity waning, or if Weyland are just using it to drum up traffic.
Oh well, back to cutting up my fingers.

I think the problem with those Dominion boxes is that after the first run sold out, GW told the retailers they'd manufacture more to order and some of them got a bit carried away with the numbers. There's probably piles of unsold stock sitting on shelves.
It's a shame really, as AoS 3rd Ed is by far the better game right now compared to 40k 9th - which is a bloated, convoluted mess with a rather severe faction balance problem already.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only the war on 3rd party bitz manufacturers.

Well, had an order in for Chalnath with my usual third party seller, hobby shop in England.
GW just shut down their trade account, no warning, as they 'suspect' they were splitting boxes into bits to sell via a separate eBay account. Except this separate eBay account pretty much deals only in second hand/pre-owned stuff, is well established for the past decade and popular, and I avoid them like the plague because of past experience.
But GW 'suspect' they're buying trade through this shop, building shoddily, painting crapply and then hawking them on eBay at the silly prices they get as past trade-ins ? Bizzare.
It's all very confusing, but ultimately no Chalnath for me. Guess I'll pick up the Sisters at a later time. Was kinda looking forward to my first taste of Tau though.

Hmmm. Done some digging. Who's involved ? Triple Helix Wargames and eBayer is aa-wargames . Turns out aa are a subsiduary of TH, same owners by the looks of it, and same location. Anyone who eBays 40k should know their listings on a Sunday, as almost every other auction is theirs, and that's been the case for a decade. And looking at a few current listings, you could possibly argue that there are a few sus kitbashes in there... It does seem to be an interesting situation, and certainly could spell trouble for both. As I suggested, they do get some obscene prices for the "second-hand" lots, but more than selling new boxes at 3rd party discount ? Perhaps GW have taken umbrage with the possibility of making more off the trade price, or otherwise some sort of fraud regarding new/pre-owned or something ? Can't really figure it out, but I'm so curious now.

Oh no, I use Triple Helix quite a lot. They're generally a bit cheaper than anywhere else and if you're buying a few bits at once it can add up to quite a bit cheaper over the likes of Wayland, Element and Goblin Gaming, etc.

The only thought I've had is that the GW legal team have been swinging the banhammer like the lunatics they are, in order to combat all the "split box" sellers (Space Marine half, Necron half for Indomitus etc, scalper outrage) on eBay, and seeing what sticks. Posted about it on dedicated forums, so we'll see what the hivemind comes up with.
It also makes me query that Weyland discount too - maybe they can't sale/return either ?

They really are their own worst enemy at times. A serious business isn't going to risk their trade prices for a shady ebay side con.

In other news I got the next 4 Imperium Mags today. 10 Necron warriors, 3 scarab bases, a Necron overlord and some teeny paints (a white, and citadel white is rarely passable, retributor armour and mech grey). Plus a binder for all the paper bumph.

I'll squirrel the models away until I get the chance to build them, all the paints to my existing collection (I think I have these colours already) and set the mags aside to read when I should be working... Nice

Well, the hivemind actually dug through 1000+ listings on AA, and found "second-hand,new on sprue" bits that could easily be pieced out from oldish combat boxes, and some essentially brand new, no-box sprues like a complete Chaos Knight.
GW have had a "no bits" policy hardline for a number of years with trade, so I guess somebody has been digging into invoices. Could also quite easily have been traded in/bought to resell, and that's what TH say they can prove, so we'll see what happens next.
DarkSphere have been recommended as the next best 25% discount retailer, but the website, ugh.

Nice I spent a good half hour sticking the mags into the binder earlier. It was quite nostalgic, like buying a whole bunch of SFII stickers for the album or something. Managed to clean up a single necron warrior for gluing together after that and then it was dinnertime. Will hopefully find more time for it, the pile is getting out of hand and it doesn't even involve my faction

Spent some time over the weekend pressing on and painting the T'au which came with the previous KillTeam box set. Frankly a painful experience and I'm not convinced I'll ever get them to look good - the black/white contrast is a PITA to paint and some of the detail is too shallow to really know where the edges are - so you have to guess...
And what's with the full body armour, but no shoes!?! Are they not worried about stepping on a rusty nail??
I'll post pictures when I'm done...

I'm so fucking hyped for those dragons. I'm going to watch the Rankin Bass class flight of dragons on repeat for the next two weeks.
