That's actually the one Squidmar painted. He's sold it to a hobby store in Australia.
If I remember correctly, he paid around 6 grand for it from a Swedish collector, so that's a pretty hefty profit, although it did take an awful lot of work to assemble and paint. Reinforcing metal minis that size would be no joke!

He's a bit Instagrammy from my point of view and his music usually winds me up. I only tend to watch his stuff when it's something I'm really interested in - the Thunderhawk, his friend speedpainting a start collecting box and his attempts at painting a marine with craft paint from Ikea all spring to mind

I much prefer Ninjon and Miniac. Like you say, Squidmar is just too much of a 'brand'.

I enjoy Goobertown/Brent, Striking Scorpion83 and Duncan the most. No ego, all hobby. There's a Spanish chap as well, whose name escapes me, but has a similar feel

Goobertown is great. Cruxterminatus is a good guy too but struggles a bit and doesn’t post much any more.

Gotta say I like Guy at Midwinter Minis the most. It was his speed painting Blackstone Fortress which really sucked me into the hobby

2nd batch of Imperium magazines arrived today (#3-6)!
The Skorpeth Destroyers and Primaris Aggressors look great

Great models, really looking forward to slapping some paint on those Necrons. Struggling to decide on a colour scheme
Irritated that the Assault Intercessors have logos baked into their shoulderpads, but hey-ho. Easily 'fixed and the Captain amd Aggies escaped that treatment

Oh the assault intercessors have logos on? That’s annoying. I have something like 4000 points of marine Unassembled that I’m still trying to decide what chapter to paint as. Definitely not ultramarines though!

I'm new to this but have really enjoyed the building part so far (bought the elite starter and some other space dudes).
What do you all do about priming? I'm using spray cans which I didn't realise are shite in humid countries until I tried today, got some fuzz and looked it up. Apparently it's humid here all the time. Read about air brushes but they're not cheap. Am I overthinking it? Don't want to ruin my minis!

Takes longer to dry and you have to make sure you aren't blobbing it on/you're covering everything/might need to top up some patches, but it's probably your best option unless you either buy an airbrush or a dehumidifier for the shed And you're probably not overthinking it. If the prime and base coats aren't smooth then the finished job will look bad

Definitely not ultramarines though! Fortunately it's only 3 minis so far. They're all about to find out what 'battle-ready' means in this house

Thanks for the tips. I'll give the Vallejo a go for now. I looked into airbrushes but there doesn't seem to be a middle ground pretty cheap and supposedly crap and very expensive.

I'm a fan of The Army Painter brush on grey primer, but have recently branched out to the various Vallejo brush on primers. The bigger bottles are decent value, and the smaller Vallejo Model range bottles come in a whole bunch of different colours to suit.

I've considered whether to get an airbrush as a lot of the YouTube guys make it look so easy. But then I remember that I have a hard enough time with something like dry-brushing and would rather spend the money on more models (which I'll probably never get around to painting...)

Same here, but sooner or later I'm going to make a drunken impulse purchase :/

I swithered for a hell of a long time on whether to get one or not. If it wasn't for lockdown and the fun of planning a purchase (!) I probably wouldn't have.
If I was painting miniatures exclusively I may not even then, but with Gunpla and military models it seemed better used.
I would recommend it. It is extremely satisfying getting the paint going on so smooth. I have always loved the idea of it and it is great to try and master. Steep learning curve though - tools, paints, thinning, tip dry, spatter, cleaning up after all take trial and error to master.

For priming on the cheap, use Halfords car primer, Grey or White. About half the price of GW and very good coverage.

So in following this Imperium doodad, I'm considering just following the paint scheme they set. Then I noticed that you're basing them with a pot of the ol' citadel stuff. Surely they should be sprayed?

Yes. Yes yes yes. They don't tell you to prime them but you absolutely should. As Plant says, cheap spray primer is fine, but obviously do it outside, wear a mask etc.
I blue tack my minis to a strip of card to get coverage all over, and use a box to catch the overspray. Cocktail sticks and tack are good for sub assemblies

Halfords black isn't a proper primer, but it still works pretty well. Add the grey and white, and easy zenithal highlighting.
Meanwhile, I'm just waiting for the tip of a finger to grow back. And a cut on the other thumb. Always letting my old Khorne worshipping ways slip back in while building.

Love it. I have some Inceptors that need a similar treatment. What's your recipe?
As a tribute to Danger and Zone I will make one of mine brown. It was a fart gone wrong.
