There's fluff in current codex ? Compare the Indomitus (9th ?) rulebook to something like the 3rd Ed BBB, and there's really no comparison. The old stuff was way richer in little boxout stories, things to spark the imagination. Anyway, GW themselves have said in recent years they see it more about model collecting and the hobby side, compared to a balanced and fair rules set. The constant creep/reboot pattern is pretty old now, and the sooner it moves to some form of free/digital/central regularly updated app/website the better you'd think, seeing as whatever new codex is pretty much available in pdf/scans before they even hit shelves these days. As far as it goes. 3rd edition had the least fluff, they were fucking abysmal, also 3rd was a shocker. 2nd had most fluff to rules ratio probably. Current ones are some where in the middle, 8th has a lot more than 7th in terms of background. Its not as interestingly written as back in the day though plus the artwork is more "meh" nowadays.

Yeah, I got a couple of 3E codexes the other day and they’re basically a half page of intro and then “HERE ARE THE UNIT STATS” for the remaining 60 pages or so with a handful of one sentence flavor text boxes at the side.

Warhammer Skulls is live in a bunch of digital platforms now. Discounts on the videogames all over the place. The original Chaos Gate is free on gog.com right now. Ah. The time of year where I desperately try to remember which 40k games were good or not good. (I noticed yesterday that Battlesector is on Gamepass for PC and had to go through the same process. I think that's a slitherine one and actually good. maybe) Old Chaos Gate is good memories. realotakugamer.com/warhammer-40000-boltgun-announced/82410/ That actually looks pretty cool, though I've never found a game where they managed to get Bolters right.. they always end up like regular machine guns. PS/ From that gog giveaway I've discovered that warhammerart.com/ is a thing. I love the art that GW has done over the years, but I'm not sure if I'd want any of it on my walls. Not sure the impression that would give to visitors ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

I lurv the old John Blanche stuff... but even then, I suspect it'd get some weird looks if it was on the wall. If I ever get a room just for hobbies I'll consider it.

@bill Battlesector is good. My brain know its good, I am certain of this. It's a fact. But I couldn't stick with it for more than a couple of hours for some reason.

£140 is surprisingly good value for that 30K boxset... couldn't help myself.

Patiently waiting for preorders to open up here. I’ve secured my big box already but was going to get the books and extras. For some reason when I first checked it default to the AU store and I was kind of alarmed to see the big box listed as $550.

Woo, there we go. Only ended up getting the books, the new anthology paperback, and Horus. Threw in another year or White Dwarf while I was there.

Big box and filthy traitor book ordered. Nearly ordered the big tank, but think I'd rather wait for the leviathan dread to come out. Question is now, word bearers or world eaters

So, the big question is… how many of us actually ply this stuff rather than just collect it? Me, I rarely even paint the stuff!

I’m quite tempted by the idea of loyalist faction of a traitor legion or traitorous bunch of a loyalist legion, but will probably just end up going Sons of Horus.

Quite like the Night Lords but the thought of painting all those lightning bolts has put me right off.

Sons of Horus for me, but haven’t decided on Astartes yet. Might just go Ultramarines or Space Wolves tbh.

It would be a choice for me between Raven Guard and Alpha Legion.

I've had a play around with yellow ink today and think I'm going to go fists. Was thinking word bearers for traitors because I fancy painting red but like the green of sons of Horus too.
Never played myself, just like painting!

Why yes random online bookstore I will take a near mint load of the Rogue Trader RPG (from FFG, not the original 1st edition 40K) core and sourcebooks for $80. Good timing as I just preordered the Owlcat RT RPG they’re doing that it’s all based on.
Also threw in a copy of the 2001 Inquisitor RPG core for the fun of it.

I just realized how much some old rulebooks are selling for... and now I'm wondering what condition all my old books are in, and hoping my parents didn't throw them out when they moved.

Yellow is tricky, best thing is to try and make a virtue of its' vices. Next time you might like to try starting from white, then Magos Purple contrast to get some Magenta tones into the recesses, then take advantage of yellow's natural transparency by building up slowly, it's probably going to take 3 or 4 thin layers, so do a batch of models if you can.
