New Year's Res time. Currently unpacked everything to paint ten Judicators (4 are half done which was about 14 months ago).
Currently trying to straighten out the hobby mat with my partner's aerobics weights, it looks like a green burrito. Ah well, more time to procrastinate. Do I even enjoy this?

I did the wrong maths earlier. I have two units of five and had six which are largely base coated, so it's been four today, including two primes.
If by 'batch' you mean painting one colour at a time on several models, that.
I'd considered eg doing all legs then another part but I've just taken to doing the whole coverage of one colour then picking the other model up. I'm just slow as anything I think. It's a thing with me in most stuff I do to be honest.
Anyway have a decent covering of gold and black on the four models. Have Thursday free and was hoping to get then fully base painted for shades and highlights but not gonna happen. Didn't get much sleep and even with a daylight strip lamp my eyes are now stinging.
Really for these I probably ought to have bought the gold spray but I can see issues with painting over that.

At least you're getting it done right. I have to take enforced breaks pretty regularly, else I lose patience and get sloppy. (There's a reason my new project is Death Guard!)
I find that I get quicker if I paint several times a week, but more often than not I end up doing one day of it every 1/3 months, make barely any progress and buy something new to build instead.
Agree on metallic primers, they don't look easy to re-coat particularly with lighter colours, but I have no direct experience with them.

Apparently the metalic primers are quite shiny so subsequent colours don't stick to them as well as matt primers - not impossible but probably need more (thinner) coats...?

youtu.be/m3p_VuPIS2cI don't think I'm gonna mess with the metallic primers. It's a pain painting all the armour but it is what it is. I always thin and layer the paints although a wet pallette is helping with that immensely which is a new trick. I'm using the Army Painter one. Some Citadel colours are just an arse though. My Abaddon black is ridiculously ineffective, and for Hammers of Sigmar it's all tiny details like belts that are hard to cover accurately in the first place.

So I'm toying with a colour scheme idea for a Raven Guard successor chapter called the Marines Sapphire.
And this is a version I monkeyed with on Dawn Of War 3 army painter, which unfortunately doesn't allow the independent colouring of weapons or helm lenses:
I like the metallic look of that version of the blue, but as far as I can tell "Asuryan Steel" isn't a colour in the current Citadel range.
The closest match I can see after a browse is this one from Elite Models.
It's a bit more vibrant, and closer to the colour in the B&C generated one. Anyone used their range before, and any thoughts on their quality?

I think they look better with black bolters. I'd add some blue heraldry on the knee pads, maybe red eyes. Mostly black with a few blue shocks through it would be fun. Easiest way to get nice metallic of a weird colour is either: 1. Boltgun metal, nuln oil, drybrush runefang steel or the like. Then put over a few washes of an appropriate blue wash 2. Boltgun metal coat (maybe also the drybrush/shade), use the right contrast paint for the colour you want over that Because it was before contrasts I got this from method 1 using Druchii Violet as the tint (my old camera phone was shite):

Mig are well known, but moreso for their enamels in the military models side of things. Some of the really good painters will happily use their stuff, and the infamous streaking grime does everyone else.
Had no idea they had an acrylic range whatsoever, and nor have I seen anyone applauding it so ymmv. At only £2.50 though, it's worth a punt. Off the top of my head, have you tried the Vallejo, P3, or Scale 75 ranges ?

Ha I've finally painted all my Sisters of Battle. Including some 2nd edition miniatures I bought in the 90s but had never 100% painted. Here's a scale creep picture:

Amazing work ethic that.
They look great. Working towards getting a full army but it's a sloooow slog. Must be satisfying as anything.
Re the scale thing, funnily enough when I went into a GW shop for the first time since I was a kid I ended up incredulous at a staff member that they had not actually shrunk the scale.
He pointed out my hands had got bigger 😂

Took me 24 years to get around to painting some of them. It's not a particularly good army right now as there's no fast attack or much anti-tank in it. I've just been buying models I like the look of so far, as its largely been under lockdown.

Ha, not sure about kids I feel I've been saying 'Rule of Cool' since the 90s, or at least calling min/maxers creeps.

Not sure what reminded me of this today, but the worst thing I ever did was buy the Eldar Viper Jetbike the week they first came out, and then ruin it completely by spraying it neon yellow in an ill-advised attempt to start an Exodite army.

I took a pottle around the Tottenham Court Road Warhammer shop yesterday. Must be fifteen years since I set foot in one. Immediately got the itch again. I barely have time for my existing hobbies, but there I was scanning the back of the box for the 40K starter army, and halfway to the till with the new Second Season starter pack for Blood Bowl.
Help.

The re-introduction of Blood Bowl and Necromunda a few years ago is what got me back in... It's a slippery slope.

I might have to dig the PC game of Blood Bowl out of my backlog to stave off the obsessive browsing of their website. Hopefully I can virtually scratch the itch - must be 30+ years since I've Blood Bowled.

The TCR Warhammer has the Forge World shit in stock as well, that's a dark money abyss there's no coming back from.

I often see II on sale but there aren't enough reviews online to decide whether to give it a go. At least not from the "respected" publications. There's fan uploads but if I'm not familiar with the person it's hard for me to take their opinions seriously, at least on clickbaity youtube.

3 is out this year, but likely to be kinda pricey? The pricing model for the last one wasn't friendly with lots of teams being DLC. They all faithfully implement the board game so its ease of use is the main selling point, e.g. finding someone to play with remotely or a good UI. 2 is excellent, even if the AI is too easy. Pretty cheap nowadays. 1 has one of the worst game UIs. Avoid. Why did you feel the need to mention this. My wallet is spouting vulgarities at you I keep feeling the temptation to buy my brother the body, but not the arms, for one of those really expensive Dark Angels dreadnoughts as a present just to annoy him.

I've spent a lot of money on a lot of stuff since starting this hobby last summer, but the £10 spent on a vice drill and micro drill bits to put holes in my gun barrels is up there with the best of the buys! Satisfying to do and looks great.

*Finally* finished two units of Judicators, painted as a block of ten. Now I've remembered my flow for basing etc next lot may be a tad quicker. This had a two week delay as a highlight colour had fossilized and I had to re-buy it, right at the last stages too. Pile of shame diminishing by the month! Five Evocators which are partially done next. Three leaders, three cavalry and a mounted general. I'm terrified of painting the cavalry and am hoping it may be possible to do mount and rider separately. One absolute p*sser is that since the new Sigmar rules my meticulously planned army is now 60 points over. Lastly, forgive me for asking if it's been covered but how are people getting these decent large images on here? Mine are shite. Edit: Picture issues rectified thanks to Oldschoolsoviet.
