There have been lots of complaints about Golden Demon judging this time. Vincey V, Squidmar and others. It's not about not winning, it's about being ranked as not even close on an inconsistent and opaque set of criteria. I got the context, and watched the Trovarion video too. I just think it *does* come across as sour grapes the way the contestant himself has made a video about it. Seems unsportsmanlike - and let’s face it GD has become about painting athletics now.

Edit - btw what I can see of that painted squig looks great. You might be interested in White Dwarf this month - some decent Orktober features

magicpandaI’m going to wager you were a bit heavy handed with the spray, either in terms of distance or volume. Imagine a 30 cm ruler between the nozzle and your mini and don’t get much closer - I don’t fire it for more than about a second at a time and sweep across as I do it, generally doing a few passes on each side. Make sure you shake your can for a good couple of minutes too and bring them inside quickly into a warm but ventilated room. You can get all sorts of funky effects if the paint and primer aren’t mixed properly - which is a good reason to limit spraying on very cold or very hot days. People scoff at it but the current citadel spray handle really helps as you can fit loads on it, and swivel it to hit sides accurately. I’d strip that one with iso and re-do. If I’m not teaching a granny to suck eggs watch Duncan Rhodes’ spray priming erm, primer, on YouTube too.

Thanks! Yep you are right, being too close tracks perfectly, had them all on a long wooden stick facing right and I remember spraying in the mouth at an awkward angle. Squigyboy is coming along nicely. Building up slowly and trying to get a bit closer to that nice Squig orange/red

Just bought the new Blood Angels combat patrol. Might have to start painting some space marines at some point. Think I must have around 3-400 primaris still on sprue. The dream is a full chapter at some point….

I've gone and bought the new Legion Imperialis book on pre-order anyhow. The Mechanicanum minis do look pretty nice, and aren't Space Marines.

I bought the HH rule book (for the fluff and art, no intention of playing) for 14 quid the other day - and it looks like it’s lost in the post. Knew it was too good to be true.
Off to my first ever in person trip to Element soon, have a few bits ordered for pickup including Codex Blood Angels. They would definitely be my second Chapter, and I’m thinking of buying the new KT starter set and doing them as BA - just can’t quite work out if they have anything that screams ‘no, these must be a boring chapter like Ultras’ with regards the sculpts. I have some old BA upgrade sprues but I think it gets trickier kitbashing with monopose.

Wow, Element is magic! Really confusing, but magic!
It’s basically the first floor of a small old mill on an industrial/business park. Being in Stockport, don’t go if you have any phobia of giant horribly laid out roundabouts and the like.
Freezing in there, but just shelf after shelf of semi organised stuff, but unlike GW, there’s just loads of stock. They had some of last year’s Xmas battle forces in. And the paint and hobby section was extensive.
I don’t know if there was a tournament on or if it’s normal but the very large gaming section was absolutely heaving and sounded like your average airport lounge or Wetherspoons. I was too shy to go in, as I’ve still never played a real game of anything and I think they’d be able to smell that on me.
I had a tenner of birthday cash left and got some brush soap which was £8.95. It’s a sad indictment of current inflation that when I asked if there was anything fun I could get for a pound five, dice were the only suggestion, and they were £1.79.
The Blood Angels codex is very nice, with some classic old artwork in there including one I recognised and presume to be Lemartes. It smells great too.

Sounds very much like Dark Sphere.
Basement of an old shopping mall. Endless painting tables with people painting minis or having card tournaments, boxes everywhere and all the wares around the sides of the enormous room.

I *should* finish painting my first three Vespids tomorrow (!). Just guns and bases to sort. Will post a pic and you can shoot it to shit.

Lost patience and went too thick with paint on the titties. I need to watch some more youtube experts but I lose focus, fingers crossed I can rescue it a little.

It’s really good work. I think I kinda know what you are getting at with your self criticism but it’s only visible by zooming in on it and one of the lessons of painting is that photos don’t look like IRL. At viewing distance this is a really good model and an army at this standard? Forget about it! It’ll look mint. Epic even, forgive the pun.
Glazing is the thing you want to learn if you want those sort of volumetric highlights with less paint on the model. Suggested viewing - most Tabletop Ready videos.
Excellent work, keep the green tide coming.

Pre-orders go live for a few models type things next Saturday, notably the new KT Starter Set, some stuff from recent army boxes too including the recent Chaos Lords (these are good models) and another couple of the re-boxed/inflated Kill Teams.
Still not decided on the Starter Set yet, chiefly because I think those Plague Marines will be a bit of a chore to paint and it’s yet more Primaris. But also because I really want the Ratlings/Orks one which will surely be at least around the 120 mark? However two KTs for 67.50 is tempting.
Edit - for some of the veterans of the long hobby, what do you think the chances of this starter set still being available into next year are?

If the Orks / Ratlings one follows the same format as the last KT version, it should be around 70ish quid or so. Isn’t it the two teams and then a bit of terrain to add to the Volkus set, rather than a full box?
Those Vespid look ace, Tomo.

Definitely not every month - you’re seeing a flurry of activity due to a new edition of the core game/rules.
It is I think the third best selling system so it’s reasonably well supported but 40K is where the constant stream of releases tends to be.
Stuff may go out of print or may be repackaged as 40K boxes, it’s hard to predict this stuff. I think most of the boxed teams will at least get a new lease of life because of these repackaging efforts. But GW make more hype and demand than they can supply, so you’ll find sometimes that supplies of stuff run low if there is a big release.
For example, the most recent 40K boxed edition launch saw a lot of there production turned to churning out those boxes. I started my Tyranids collection with it but it did become more difficult to find certain stuff. Seem to remember Exocrines became semi scarce.
I’d recommend checking out the ‘classified teams’ list. This shows what teams will be supported in tournament rules and for how long - and we really don’t know what will happen to them after that. Of course that doesn’t stop you painting them, and it doesn’t stop you still playing with the rules that already exist.

Broadly yes, but there’s a few pieces of heavy terrain in it and two full teams, plus I think additional campaign rules and stuff. I think it’s a fuller box than the starter set. Did the recent GSC vs Votann have any major terrain with it? Could extrapolate from that maybe (unless you are telling me that is what you have done).

That came with two relatively large container / tank things, plus the teams, data cards and a campaign book.
The one before with the Night Lords and the Goth Eldar came with the same but with a big bunker sort of thing as terrain.
I can’t remember what terrain came in the Strikng Scorpions set.
I’m probably wrong and prices will no doubt have gone up anyway, but the Ork / Ratlings one feels quite similar.

A bunch of them are just being rotated in to 40k. The striking scorpions set doesn't even have specialist weapons it was just a way of soft launching one of the many needed Eldar plastic updates. Just with a Kill Team label.
Rumours of a full plastic Krieg range are similar or the Vespids for Tau. Or Ork Commandos.
Just doesn't happen for Marines as they get stuff directly.

TomoIf you are interested in upcoming releases this guy may help: youtu.be/cmzjZ3SrySE?si=q9PXwInYDgnPnp7XDisclaimer - it’s monotonal narration over a PowerPoint. Lots here don’t like it as a result but as most of the key info is on the slides you can double tap to skip ten seconds at a time through the vid! I personally don’t mind him at all. Be aware if you are specifically doing Killteam he does approach that stuff from a ‘usability in 40K’ perspective rather than for the KT system itself. When he says teams are unavailable too, if you can do without the tokens you can get the old boxes of several teams still at the independent shops, and these will be cheaper than the relaunches. Seems the halfing set will be around £90.
