Moving on to a second army. GSC to compliment the 'nids I've amassed so far as can run as a separate detachment. Terrible at taking photos now I see them on a big screen though.

Have never got what the genstealer cults are really. Are they largely human or are they some sort of hybrid spliced with 'nid DNA?

Loving them Riv. Damn, I really need to start buying some of this again. Would love to play it actually but I don't know anyone else who does

Have never got what the genstealer cults are really. Are they largely human or are they some sort of hybrid spliced with 'nid DNA? IIRC, a solitary Genestealer arrives on an inhabited world and gets to work implanting it's genes in the population (essentially sticks it's long tongue down into the stomachs of it's targets). These folk procreate, spreading their altered genes to their partners and their kids are born as hybrids (the first generation are pretty gnarly, with large heads and extra arms, etc, which the parents feel an overwhelming urge to love and protect, so hide them away - often forming hidden communes around the original Genestealer. These kids have kids of their own etc, and by the fourth generation can pass for hairless humans quite easily. The generation born after that is a purestrain Genestealer, which continues to infiltrate the population and the cycle starts again. The original 'Stealer gets huge and becomes psychically attuned to it's 'family', who would die to protect it. Generations pass, and the cult grows, until they have enough numbers to attempt to overthrow the governing power of the planet. This activity sets off a psychic beacon that attracts the nearest Tyranid hive fleet, who turn up and basically liquidate everything (the cult included, excluding the purestrains who join the hive) into biomass. It's sinister and creepy and you kind of feel a tiny bit sorry for them when, after centuries of planning to meet their gods, the 'star children' turn up to 'save them' and they all end up as soup

Brilliantly explained thanks. Only Warhammer could out-icky Alien in these stakes.

I really like the look and lore of Genestealer cults (as brilliantly explained by Zyrr) and have been tempted to get the starter set, but in reality it'll just be another box on my Pile of Shame which I'll never get to build, let alone paint or play with...

Great models Riv. Get a large sheet of white card/thick paper. tape it to a vertical surface, curve it down to the desk and tape it to the horizontal. Put little painted men on the paper, light from 2 directions and take the pics a bit closer in.

I always fancied converting a cult to a Cthulhu cult army as I have a Cthulhu model that's approximately 40K scale.

Still have lots of Cult ideas to churn out. Van Saar base for some really equipped technical guys, Cawdor base for scavvie types, and finally got some of those generic Outcast boxes to expand the main army for funsies. Certainly remember a Cthulu Cult or two, and I'd love more takes - I've seen an Ork-based cult, but never an Eldar one. Took a punt on some Tortuga true-scale casts too before the Ukraine goes under. Still haven't started my Dark Mech painting. Too cold and miserable.

Nice work Rivuzu. How you keeping? Doing good. Recently hit 2k on 'nids and I'm enjoying spending every free moment painting minis. Also got a 3d printer under the tree to open next week so I'm slowly building up a backlogue of stl's to print off

Woo, my girlfriend got me an airbrush kit for Christmas. Just a Master set for now, more than enough to get me going with the basics.

We both can't be arsed with wrapping things and waiting until Christmas Day. We're traditionalists like that.

Nice! Gonna post some results? A practice on cardboard, then sprues before models is recommended so feel free to skip the learning curve

Great! It looks ideal as a starter and no reason it canβt keep going for a long time. Advantage to the 3 brushes is you can keep one for a specific task like varnishing or bae coating. The compressor doesnt look like itβs got a tank on it, so it will always be running but thatβs no great hardship. It has a moisture trap which will be very good for you out in the swamps

Excellent! I was losing hope for the promised expansions. Now I have some motivation to finish painting the core box

Yeah, just saw that - I'll be getting that after just missing out last time - really like the figures but didn't fancy forking out for them when they released a selection of the baddies. The whole thing was handled pretty poorly really, a good example of how not to do something..

I just came here to post exactly that βΊοΈ I've not even assembled the figures from my copy yet, but I'd be interested in the expansions... In other (related) news, me and the kids finished Blackstone Fortress last night \o/ I've got the Chaos Cultist expansion, so I think we'll tackle that next

Just ordered the new Stormcast Battletome. Hoping for some vouchers from the in-laws towards the new Sigmar Core Book. It will aid me to never getting round to painting anything

Just ordered the new Stormcast Battletome. Hoping for some vouchers from the in-laws towards the new Sigmar Core Book. It will aid me to never getting round to painting anything I know that feeling. The closest I get to painting atm is chasing a pet that has a brush/paintpot/my pallette in their gob while I beg them to release it
