If I had to think of a fluff reason to put that on a gun, it’d be so you could rest the muzzle on the ground without getting debris in. Or to position it to blow a door in or something. Doesn’t really work on what is effectively a heavy bolter. Real reason is just to look more industrial tacticool I guess.

But do only those jump dudes have them or are they a general thing now?

It would stop the muzzle getting bashed in the ground when the guys have a heavy landing.

But do only those jump dudes have them or are they a general thing now? So far as I know in the marine range it’s them and the odd model with a heavy bolter - there’s a heroes/honoured of the chapter (can’t remember the name) where I think it featured. Thinking about it I think it may feature on the Invictus Warsuit too. Have you ever seen those YouTube vids from that guy at the Royal Armoury? He looks at guns in games and then talks through the realism/lack of/real world comparisons/inspirations. I’m sure the bull bar muzzle has come up before and he said it’s based on a certain weapon where the shoulder stock is foldable forwards, and that the ‘U’ would actually be the end of that. Designers have then either not understood that when designing a weapon without the folding stock, or just liked the look. An example I can think of if you want to google it is the Skorpion submachine gun. I take it you are not a fan anyway!

My headcanon is that Belisarius Cawl had a load of pipe left over when redesigning all the weaponry for the Primaris forces, and we're lucky GW aren't selling Bolter Pipe Insulation as an upgrade sprue for 20 quid.

You may have just inspired a 4-man diorama. Will get back to you when I've painted the big zebra crossing base.

Everyone aware that the brush bit pulls down to access the bottom of the jar?

I really like the Mr.Hobby equivalent, but holy shit it gives me major headaches if I use it for too long. Thousands of brain cells die every time I unscrew the top.

Blood Angels Death Company battle force announced. Basically Intecessors with upgrade sprues and a Brutalis Dread with a lick of black paint and a skull and bones. I do like the Lemartes and Astorath models.

Looking at vehicle conversions. Those Rhino hatches were the perfect size:
I imagine the domes of Tau drones might work equally well in the same way, although they might be a bit large.

Revelation today. Have until now been following a video that described the decal process thusly:
1. Gloss varnish the area 2. Micro Set the area 3. Separate the decal, again using Micro Set 4. Roughly conform the decal, allow Micro Set to dry 5. Apply Micro Sol 6. When dry, matte varnish
The problem I’ve found is that stage 3 is b*llocks. Basically the Micro Set acts as a glue, so it’s been absolutely saturating the transfer with glue making it extremely difficult to position as it’s setting very quickly with a glue-to-glue action.
So today I’ve replaced that step with a good old dunk in the water pot to separate the decal. Whaddayaknow, not only does it separate much more quickly (and I mean much more) but the decal then slides about nicely to where it’s needed. I guess the clue is in the title - waterslide!
Bit of a facepalm moment when I worked this out but I’ve just had a much easier time of it today.

Well, here's the latest lot of completed stuff:
By my count that's 247 toy soldiers painted in 2 weeks (I had a week on holiday in between starting and finishing). Sounds pretty impressive until you factor in that a box containing 3,000 more is arriving tomorrow. That's the next 6 months sorted then. Oh well, it's not like I have to paint them all before I can play with them...

Here’s my five then (1 of 2) Primaris Chaplain. Wasn’t too keen on this one when I saw the box art but painting it has given me a real appreciation of it to be honest: Lieutenant with Combi Weapon. What a rubbish name lol. The Tyranid carapace is Shyish Purple thinned quite a bit with contrast medium, x2 coats. That’s it. Wish I’d found this before doing all my termagants!

What I did on my holidays (2 of 2) Inceptor: Sarge: And the gang: I think these three models had the most highlighting needed of any model I have yet painted. They are panel and rivet city. After struggling so much with the stands it feels great to have them complete. Such a rewarding hobby!

@drakesmoke I got a Lt. with Combi Weapon in the post yesterday! Not sure what to do with it to be honest, definitely replacing the dripping knife though. Maybe an auspex, as I have one in my bits box.

I can’t remember who it was discussing this but yeah it’s one of those very specific models that would look silly on the table against any army that isn’t Tyranids. His actual lore is that he is the last survivor of his detachment when the reinforcements arrive to a Tyranid invasion and that’s why he has a Hormagaunt carcass on his shoulder.
The creature he is stood on is also not real - as those are simply synapse tokens for the Neurotyrant - although I reckon that was probably not the intention when they were sculpting them.
I will add that only an Ultramarine would be so resourceful in the face of adversity.

I'm sure my inceptors don't have that rail, just the blast plate on the HBs. Maybe I missed it or didn't want to put it on, there's no way the kit was updated.
Or maybe they did update it? I'm sure the blast plate is completely solid on mine

I built all of the Intercessors with backwards holsters and couldn’t remove them so they have been binned sadly. Still have the Redemptor to tackle. Luckily I’ve got two Blood Angels Combat Patrols and a Space Wolf one do have another twenty Intercessors between them. I think I’ll make a squad of ten and two squads of five. Need to get some building done soon really. Doesn’t sound like there’s much happening at work and am expecting a light touch tomorrow when I return because they know my other half has just had surgery. Maybe I’ll try and build it all 😂

They only had assault bolters (the plasma exterminators came along a few weeks later when they got their own kit). The bolters also did NOT have rails on those models. Edit: There's a picture of the Dark Imperium Inceptors halfway down this page: www.warhammer-community.com/2017/06/03/dark-imperium-pre-orders/

PSA - anybody that collects Marines, and doesn’t have the units, go and buy yourself a Blood Angels Combat Patrol as it will doubtlessly be replaced by the end of the year. You get:
Primaris Librarian - I didn’t realise this could be built helmeted either, which makes it more badass
5 Intercessors - and there are actual chain swords on the upgrade sprue!
5 Infiltrators OR Incursors
3 Aggressors
And an Impulsor
I genuinely think it’s the best box I’ve bought - which is why I ended up getting a second! The chances of its inevitable replacement being as good are sweet FA.

Are the Aggressors monopose or the full kit? (I.e. can have bolters or flamers)

Are the Aggressors monopose or the full kit? (I.e. can have bolters or flamers) Full kit. I’ve built six and have managed to build all six slightly differently too - seals on a couple, different (for wont of a better term) sporrans, I’ve got two with bear heads. You get a fair bit of variety! To be fair the same for the Intecessors too. You can build a really bewildering amount of different combos. EDIT - I of course meant ‘bare’ heads. But the image of an Aggressor with a face like Sooty is too delicious to change.

The Impulsor is a seriously nice kit. I’m loving building it!
Edit: I’m revising this lol.
Had to abandon it for the day and think I’ve been at it for several hours now. Some bits that feel daft like glueing individual weapon handles on the pintle gun and individual flaps all over the hover tread things are actually a bit of a pain.
I will say it’s a very nice model though and still easier to build than the Dreadnoughts I’ve done so far.

I'm very tempted by the AoS Spearhead format. I'm never actually going to go to the lengths of playing a 2000 point 40k game, especially with how frequently the rules change. But having the rules for every faction in one book, just playing with a set box is something I can see me doing. Just a pity that the Fire and Jade book you need, only comes in Skaventide, or the Ultimate starter box.

Read somewhere that Warcom have some version of the rules free to download.
And it's not like someone, somewhere hasn't scanned it already I'll wager...yarr.
